Why beauty supply stores are an essential part of Winnipeg's Black community

When Lola Omoniyi moved to Winnipeg in the '70s, there was nowhere for her to go get her hair done - or buy makeup that actually matched her skin tone. So she opened her own store and created a space where other Black Winnipeggers, many of them newcomers, could go to feel seen. Thirty-five years later, her store is part of a growing fleet of businesses that she says play an essential role in Winnipeg's Black community.
