I never get tired of watching Ben and Simone play. Bonus to watch Dekal and Adam. Great stuff.

Great video, you really get a sense of being right on the court and the abundance of talent that's present. So much can be learned by watching this.

These players are all 3.5 at best. Even the so called “best player ever” is maybe a 4.5. Just kidding. Since there is never a high level video that gets posted without someone saying that, I thought I’d get it out of the way on the pro video before it even starts.

I’ve never played this sport before… well, I've never played ANY sport before…. In fact I can’t even walk, and I struggle standing under my own power…. But I’m pretty sure I could beat every one of these guys with my non-dominant hand. (the other comment that traditionally accompanies pro-level videos.)

I am a tennis player and this looks pretty fun indeed...Questions: Can you " top spin" the ball so when it lands it accelerates with a higher bounce ? I know the rule of " no feet " in the net section but can someone jumps over it and hit the ball , like a smash, when both feet are off the ground ? Thanks !
@earlstrohmeyer486
@earlstrohmeyer486 3 жыл бұрын
Your foot can't land in the No Volley Zone either. You can stand there if the ball bounces though, just no volleys.

Yes as a tennis player you can topspin and underspin the ball. And yes you can leap across the corner of the NVZ to volley the ball
@alfredeneuman6966
@alfredeneuman6966 3 жыл бұрын
You can top spin a Pickleball, but as the paddle is hard compared to a tennis racquets strings, it is a bit more difficult. For me an underhand slice is a little easier to get underspin. You can jump over the non volley zone and hit the ball near the ends of the court, as in a "flying erne," but you cannot land in the NVZ doing so. I play with someone who flips the paddle to produce topspin, and usually at terrific speed. He is truly a master at it and I have to say I've not seen even the pros do it like he does. He will often do this for balls below the net, but there he increases his chance of hitting the net. The guy is 65, will 'walk' 36 holes of golf during the day, then play sets of Pickleball in the evening.

not only can a foot not land in nvz but you can't use your paddle can't touch inside the zone either i.e. using the paddle to keep yourself from "falling into" it.

Nice, but I think the video is a bit misnamed. It should be "Why SIMONE JARDIM is the number one female player in the world". She and Ben just finished defeating one of the top men's teams in the world and she didn't shy away from the battle one bit. That's why, in my book, Simone and Jesse Irvine are of a special breed. No fear.

@pickleballer1729
@pickleballer1729 3 жыл бұрын
@@Kalamabbfan I'd be more interested in seeing how Ana Leigh would play with Lindsay Newman or Jesse Irvine. I think Simone's style and her age would make that pair-up of limited effectiveness. MAJOR kudos to Leigh Waters for grooming and playing with Ana Leigh, but I think AL should be looking fro a young partner for her long term career. That's my opinion. Others will disagree, no doubt.

She is great and made a lot of shots -holding her own- vs the boys, but Ben really owned the court. He stands at centre-line and takes 75% of the court while Simone has to defend the corner. When they attacked Johns it didn't go in their favor. Also, Johns' roll attack is sick.

I think it also helps that they understand and feel each other well. Ben Johns just played mixed doubles with someone else that is a good player, but they didn't get very far.

Interesting that when Ben is on the odd side at the line, he frequently allows his right foot to cross over his left when he's reaching for a backhand. Most coaches say not to do this, so as not to be off balance on the next shot. I guess Ben is just quick enough that it doesn't matter. Now, anyway.
@CliffPickleball
@CliffPickleball 3 жыл бұрын
If you quick enough there's absolutely no issue crossing your right leg over the left on the odd side the key is you have to go back to your initial position as soon as you hit the ball.

neoncoyote2008 like anything in any sport, it depends on the situation. In most cases, he was in dink mode and new he had plenty of time. Most people do. In other cases, the quicker will effectively use crossover. Otherwise, shuffle. It will always depend on the situation.

I notice Ben waits for the ball to get to him and likes hitting the ball when it’s closer to the ground after it bounces. I think this gives the ball a better trajectory when dinking and dropping

Ben is a phenomenal singles player. That being said, I would not partner with him because he handles like 80 % of the balls in doubles. I would prefer trying to beat him. The way to beat him is you MUST keep him out of the middle with Miss direction shots. And slam it down the outside. You must take high risk shots inorder to have a chance. I don't see many slams to his feet also.

@@SS-qf2po yes but you don't play 5.0 and when you get to 5.0 - you wont be at the top of them either - it might take just months to develop to be a good PB player (and sadly that it is not correct for many Picklers) but it can take years to get to the top of PB otherwise it would be crowded already. - and 5.0 is 5.0 but there are only few 5.0's at the top - from what I have observed the game is getting better and better and we are seeing greater skill from those at the top - again, lets see how pickle ball is when it has been around as long as tennis.
