Practicing dermatology in South Florida I see and treat a lot if sunburns on deeper skin tones! A sunburn 🔥looks and feels different on darker skin! Please wear and reapply sunscreen for prevention but here are some tips to know if this ever happens to you! ⚪️The affected area may not feel hot or painful ⚪️Darker skin may look dry and cracked instead of red ⚪️To prevent swelling, peeling and blisters think 💭CAVE C= Cold compress as soon as you notice the sunburn AV= Aloe Vera cream to soothe E= Emollients/ colloidal oats containing products to heal, calm and stop inflammation. Hope this helps!

Um ok no! No one needs sunscreen not even the palest person on planet earth. Our ancestors never used sunscreen they just followed the rules of the sun and built up their Solar Calass. They did this by getting up in the morning going outside and watching the sunrise so that the light which is mainly made up of near and far infrared, prepped their skin for the hot midday sun which contains a lot more blue. Morning sunlight actually gives your skin natural spf 15 which lasts the whole day. They also didn't lie in bed in a dark room at night with a bright phone or computer in their face when they are suppose to be sleeping, which stops melatonin (the darkness hormone) from being released so you can fall asleep. In terms of how much sun you need, you should stay in the sun until you start to feel a little hot and you get a slight redness/darkening of your skin. Trust yourself to use your intuition (6th sense) as to how long you need to stay in the sun. Then rather then go inside you should go and sit under a tree or in some shade. This could be 30 seconds of sun a day for a very pale white person (uncoupled haplotype) until they build up their solar calass all the way to 8 hours for a very dark person (a coupled haplotype) who actually NEEDS and can tolerate a lot of sunlight. And if you do burn dont worry because the evening light (sunset) contains yep you've guessed it the same conditioning and soothing near and far infrared light you get at sunrise to heal and soothe your skin from any damage caused by the sun during the day. God thought of everything. The people in this video who are peeling of their skin and scaring you into thinking you need sunscreen most likely slepped in all day, missed sunrise which remember it prepares your skin for strong afternoon sun and the UVA window (when the sun is between 10° and 20° in the sky) and then decided to come out of their dark home which they probably spend 90% of their time in and lie out in the sun in the middle of the afternoon which is why they look like someone took a blow torch to them. My flat mate does this and always looks like a souflee with pink blotches on her face. Please get as much sunlight as humanly possible, the sun is life and its the first thing God created. The body needs to know what time of the day it is to turn on your body clocks and cannot do this if you cover your skin in toxic sunscreen and wear dark glasses which is basically telling your body its night time during the day which causes confusion and actually leads to cancer the opposite of what they claim sunscreen is suppose to do. Look at Sanaa Lathan, she has malasma because she covered her face in makeup and sunscreen for years. The key here is balance everyone needs the right amount of sun for them. Hope this helps

Even before sunscreens, black people had wide brimmed hats, long sleeve clothing and shaded trees to keep their skins from direct sun light. I got sunburned for the 1st time in my life after 30+ years of being in the sun and its because I mistakenly sprayed on a concoction that had AHA (glycolic acid) in it and then went to climb Dunns River fall and chill on the beach in the middle of the day. Call me ignorant but I still maintain that *Black people mainly need sunscreen for antiaging* If you're going out in the hot of the sun for an extended time, slap some on as well. It regulates, smooths and evens out your black on black tan🙂. If you black and is frequently troubled with burning in the sun, something else is seriously up with your skin that's causing the oversensitivity... again my opinion.

I learned this years ago. I'm a brown skinned older woman, and I never knew that I could get an actual sunburn after being out in the sun for many hours fishing with my husband when I was in my thirties. I didn't even realize that I had gotten severely burned on my forehead and nose, until I returned home and was bathing. When I washed my face, my skin literally was peeling off on the burned areas, and it was very painful. I beleve that as a result, I developed lines or wrinkles on my forehead more than anywhere else. Please take heed to the message.❤

What happens is, if you’re constantly in the sun, you don’t need sunscreen. I’m Black from Jamaica, and I never needed sunscreen growing up. However, from ages 16 to 22, I barely got any sun. My skin wasn’t used to it anymore. When I went to the beach, I got sunburned. After that, I gradually started getting more sun, and my skin got used to it again. Now, I don’t get sunburns. If you’re Black and you stay out of the sun for a long time, you can get sunburned when you start going back into the sun. I stayed out of the sun because of work and school. I’d leave for school before the sun came up, and I’d go to work before the sun came up, leaving only after the sun went down. Black people who get sunburned can gradually introduce sun back into their routine, and they won’t get sunburned after a certain period of time. They’ll get used to the sun again.

Its the chemicals in the sun screen when the sun hits it causes skin cancer, now it's coming out that they are lying to us about the sun. With the sun use common sense. If you get a sun burn use zinc cream. That cream is sold for babies bum. It heals the skin faster and sooths the burning. It's cheep and it works. Good luck. Throw the sun screen in the garbage. The earlier days, nobody had skin cancer, this is new. Why, because of Sun screen. Look up the ingredients.

To me sunscreen is the most important part of a skincare routine. I bought into the black ppl don't need sunscreen myth, and i had terrible sun damage to my skin with darkening and hyperpigmentation. Only after using a toning cream and sunscreen regularly did my skin revert back to its natural color. Don't fall for the myth, some ppl with elite skin genetics may be able to get away with it, but for most of us sunscreen should be a must.

Its covering ourselves in sunscreen that actually causes skin cancer my dear.

I wonder about it too. I think there's other factors that cause us melanin folks to sunburn easier than others! I'm a light skinned woman and i remember being outside in the hot summer in my childhood and adult life without proper sunscreen and I've never had sunburn ever!! Aside from shea butter that i started wearing in my 20s and i wear sunscreen lately, that's all I've ever done to protect my skin! I think it is a combo of things. Living in different parts of the world, different ethnicities in your ancestry can make us susceptible to being sensitive to certain things for whatever reason. Watching black folks skin peel like that because of sun damage, that's scary!! If the sun is doing that to your dlskin, WEAR THE SUNSCREEN 🧴!!

I've never had this problem but Rihanna once talked about wearing sunscreen and she said something about how they were trying to "eradicate our melanin". I still don't know what she meant by that.

Make a paste out of Armor Hammer baking soda, and put on your sunburned skin, let it sit and dry, it helps it heal, and will peel like layers of paper, so the fresh skin can breathe.....I live in Las Vegas, and my ex-husband skin was cooked like a red chili pepper, and my Grandmother told me to make a paste batter of Armor Hammer baking soda, and lay it on his skin, and I did, I put it on his skin, like if your about to get a wax, and let it dry for a hour, afterwards rinse it off, and once you do your burned skin will peel off. Armor Hammer stops it from burning, and helps the dead burned skin peels off. Thank Grandma, a recipe she got from her mother, and Grandmother from being in those fields down in Louisiana from sun up to sundown. Old Traditional Remedies from a Granddaughter of a Two-headed Woman. Give Thanks Ase 💜🙏🏾

I am glad I came across this video. I am native indigenous and I am dark skin and I am allergic to the Sun I get sun blisters and I had got sun poisoning a few times and there has been a few people that told me because of how dark I am that there is no way for me to be allergic to the Sun that only white people can get sun burnt.

Y’all need to learn the difference between a sun TAN and a sun BURN. A lot of the people in this video got a sun tan NOT a burn. Their skin is perfectly fine and the tan evens out within a few days. We naturally get darker in the sun…….
@carasomebody6477

You can’t judge that by looking. I feel the pain, itch and tightness of a burn and even peel or blister long before and with little change to the overall color of my skin. And that’s with sunscreen. I’ll look a little darker and rosy in the cheeks and other spots but feel like absolute. And oddly on a trip to Hawaii I got exponentially darker but was not at all burned.

My dad never wore sunscreen or believed he could be burned... until we went to Puerto Rico. His skin peeled and swelled and he was in so much pain. Ever since then, he puts on sunscreen when going out for extended periods, especially on vacations. Even if you've never been burnt by the sun, skin cancer is still a thing and you don't have to burn to get it.

Everyone saying they spend a lot of time in the sun and never burn.., that's because you spend a lot of time in the sun. Your skin is used to it. Take someone from New York or Chicago during the winter and put them in that Florida/ PR sun they're gonna burn, almost no matter what their color is. I always wear sunscreen until my skin gets adjusted. I still wear it then, just not as much.
