My border collie is trying to train me to give him treats during our walks by going around me and stopping in front of me. His intelligence amazes me. He's deaf and was abandoned in an area where many farmers live.

My border collie is actually quite fond of hugs. I think he does it intentionally. He like stands up and hugs 😂

My rescue BC rarely ever gave kisses/licks -- but when he did, it was tp show intense love for me or to show gratitude for a special experience. I was so use to every day kisses from previous dogs that this threw me off. But I learned that it was just his thing and it made his kisses extremely special. I lost him in December 2022 due to cancer and I miss him so much.

My little rescue Border Collie was badly treated and loved to be by my side but held back with affection. After a few weeks, she was sitting on my bed with a toy, she left the toy, crawled up to me and cuddled in tight. Really brought tears to my eyes. Now, she's so loving and affectionate. It took time but the patience paid off. ❤

Our newest, a 9 month cattle dog mix, sits on my wife's head, to wake her up. He licks to show affection, apologize/communicate, and for salt. He's a salt fiend. He's a brain sniffer, too. He has to check from both sides, and likes to sneak a french kiss when he's done.

My border puppy cries for me outside the shower then as soon as I step out, she starts licking my feet and legs dry.

My McNab boy is not a licker. He likes to gently push his nose on my legs or shoulder and ear when driving. Some of his pups do the same thing.

I'm the happy owner that wakes up the dog, sure he has trained me to carry him to the door before heading to work I admit that but you really don't want to argue with your dog at 04.30

I really like your videos, they are helping me with my Border Collie puppy Bonnie ❤ One comment I have to make, you showed a dog fetching a stick, please DO NOT USE STICKS many dogs are taken to Vets, due to injury from sticks. Please explain this to other dog owners. There are plenty of specific dog toys to purchase, for dogs to play with.

I feel the opposite. Sticks are a perfect toy. All my 3 dogs play with them. One is a puppy (a Cavapoo). They're all fine.

obviously dogs are not injured every time they play with sticks! Having your dog run with a stick in his mouth, which usually has sharp projections, it’s like a kid running with scissors. Most of the time they get away with it. But if they trip and fall, severe injuries can result.

Out in the sticks,a stick is a perfectly good dog toy.

i have had to teach my dog to lick because she prefers to nip and mouth us. my dog is 2.5, border point, she jumps up to my husband when he’s in his chair, i was the one trying to make her stop, trying to prevent it, trying to predict it, she’s a fantastic dog except for this. now she won’t lay down voluntarily, she will go into lie down on command, but only to behave and be submissive she will expose her belly, but if i get my hands by her belly she shows warning signs of biting…yet she will let my husband rub her belly….so because i was the enforcer i really can’t cuddle or hug my dog. i’m trying to desensitize her by slowly getting closer, i know this is going to take a long time…for too long i didn’t even try. i get really down and have to stay away ffom her until i’m over it, otherwise it would be confusing to her why i’ve pulled back so much. i’m sad that this is the relationship i have with her. she’s really well trained, follows me around, but i can’t cuddle her. suggestions?

Not particularly impressed. This was supposed to be border collie specific and it's not. Not to mention that pack and leadership in dogs has actually been scientifically debunked. I love Carol Price and her advice as a border collie specialist and she describes very unique traits to border collies behaviours. For example, dogs lick, it's what they do - experience the world through their mouth, not particularly specific for borders BUT excessive licking IS. The breed is predisposed to obsessive behaviours and one way it can manifest is through licking so it is very important to understand that encouraging this thinking is a sign of love or as appeasement could lead to further behavioural issues with the dog. I have 1st hand experience with obsessive licker. My dog licks from exitement, when she's worried about me, when she wants to express her love, when she want to taste something or clean something, when she's in pain or discomfort and then there is the boredom obsessive licking and perhaps more. I know each and one of them and I know when to redirect, engage or reward. Not every lick is the same .

The obsessive behaviour manifested through licking is done to themselves not their humans. I appreciate he doesn't label any dog breed. He's more careful with his words. Why don't you start your own channel and let us leave unpleasant comments to you, so you know how that must feel?

Anytime my baby girl gives me kisses it's after I do something nice for her. It always makes me feel so happy.
