Why Brawl Stars Is More Popular Than Ever

Not too long ago, brawl stars was on a gradual decline. Looking at this google trends graph, the game reached its peak in May 2020, and over the course of a few years would hit its lowest point in August 2022. The game wasn’t looking too good, and underwhelming updates consisting of just a new brawl pass, skins, a new brawler or 2, and maybe a new game mode or two wasn’t cutting it anymore. However, over the course of the end of 2022 and all of 2023, brawl stars underwent some major changes that would lead to the game reaching a peak similar to where it was in 2020. So, in this video, we’re going to talk about why brawl stars is doing so well, and discuss the 6 main events that led to this point. Some of these features have led to some controversy and many in the community still hate them, but the game is better overall as a whole as a result.

As someone who has just returned to the game back in december again, I agree with all the reasons you pointed out in the video. Although in terms of the current progression, one thing I'm a little annoyed by is how slow it is to get brawlers using credit (or rather how hard getting credit is) compared to the old brawl boxes, but I believe it is still overall a great change for things to be much less chance oriented and the game is definitely going in the right direction

I agree that getting credit is hard but masteries lowkey made it easy get your legendaries and mythics to bronze 3 to get 100 credits, and yes i do realize its one time but it makes for some quick credit

I haven’t seen the video yet, but what was objectively good about the updates? Furthermore, Brawl has always had the P2W elements that lots of mobile games and console games have through micro transactions. It’s kinda the gaming meta rn for developers to making bank. Personally, I don’t blame them. Micro transactions allow developers to continue making a more reliable source of income with less effort. Instead of making a new game, they can update the current one like brawl stars with new features like cosmetics, modes or characters.

The only thing I will say is the recent deal with Kit being released OP as shit while being locked behind a paywall, then hard nerfing him as he became freely available wasn’t very subtle of them lmao. Even tho the vocal part of the community doesn’t seem to like these hypercharge changes and such, I would rather them be trying new things instead of leaving the game to become stale. (TF2)

I played brawl stars since 2019 and I can say then it was hugely popular, my friends and I played it almost every day. In 2020 when first brawl pass season came, everyone played it on my class. But later it fell down in my class, me and my cousins were only to still play brawl stars and withness every season and every update. The first signs of seeing brawl stars coming back is when I noticed my friends were playing brawl stars, I was shocked to see thrm play again, that's beacuse they were grinding for mega pig. Not only my entire class played, ENTIRE SCHOOL played it a lot showing brawl stars is back in the path

I find it funny how the community completely forgot about how everyone complained about boxes barely ever giving good rewards, but when Star Drops were added people began acting like Brawl Boxes were this amazing thing that you could rely on for good progression. That's not to say that there aren't issues with Star Drops currently. But I think that those issues are completely blown out of proportion and aren't nearly as bad as people make them out to be. Especially after that one maintenance during the circus season that made hypercharges much more likely to appear out of a legendary drop along with other changes. Also I think it's worth mentioning that 5v5 is a huge reason for the game's resurgence that wasn't mentioned in this video. People play Brawl Stars for the gameplay, and 5v5 brought a new gameplay experience. Plus the spike in the google trends graph is around November 2023 which is about the time that 5v5 was announced if I'm remembering right.

I'd like to give an opinion as a person who returned to the game on December after 1 year without playing: I've always been a casual/tryhard player, I like to push trophies, power league and I do like competitive, but the thing is that in 2022 I started to have a schedule and Brawl Stars in that moment consumed a lot of time, that's one reason I left it, alongside the slow progression the game had and hoe difficult it was to me to play. When I started playing again (because I watched BSC world finals), a friend of mine explained me all the changes in club and trophy system that the game had while I was off, I absolutely like the way the game is taking because it brings me a lot of comfort with my schedule, it feels great to play again without it feeling a huge responsibility.

I disagree with one thing. I was very dissapointed in the mega pig (I still am) but not because it's a bad casual friendly event. I was dissapointed that I couldn't play more to get more stuff that I need. This is why I loved club league so much. I had to play more but I was getting what I wanted. I think they should add a more competitive club related event alongside megapig (maybe club wars or tournaments of sorts) for more active players to enjoy. I agree that casual playerbase is the most important but expirience of a competitive and active player in brawl stars is just horrible, you can push for masteries, push power league (and I pray that PL rework will be asap because PL sucks as well) or push trophies and nothing more. It's just wrong to leave most dedicated and loyal players with this bs that we have right now. Other that, I completely agree with everything said in this video, it's great really.

I agree with almost everything here besides your mega pig approach, before you had guaranteed good resources for your grind(which tbh wasnt that hard to complete if u had a good club) now you get less than 2k gold everytime and trash rng resources, star drops daily is a good thing but as they are rng doesnt make sense changing the club shop system just to add more use to the starr dropa

I have been playing since the christmas update in 2018, and honestly, the game has improved a lot. The only problems I really see is how hard is to get most stuff. You pointed out the skins difficulty to get even with the catalog and those rainbow pastel points (i forgot their name lol), the game lagging as hell even tho my phone is very good, and this new brawl pass. God, I just hated sm when this paid Brawl Pass was announced I did quit the game. Come backrecently because my sister asked to play because fr I really don't want Nrawl Stars to become a Clash Royale 2.

What I hate about the mega pig is that it takes a month to arrive then u get 2 days to grind it so if u ar doing something or your club is casual to bad there goes 90% of the loot and like 10% of your monthly progression( and no grinding 15 wins in 2 days is NOT stress free that’s far worse then club league) a very good quality of life would be aligning the mega pig to the brawl pass cos they are both one month and cos your checking brawl pass more often it would also bring more excitement not only are u getting a new brawl pass but your also getting mega pig

The things I would change: 1. Make power points be the only thing required for brawler upgrades. It is extremely difficult as a new player to amass coins. I have 11k power points and 600 coins. Then maybe you could realistically get true silver or gold skins. 2. Make the Starr road say "Any epic" instead of choose between Bibi, Grom and Frank for example. If I want Amber as my first legendary over Leon i should have thay choice. 3. Make credits easier to have.

Remember when this game was canada exclusive and i had to go thru hoops and shit to play it by changing my appstore location and whatnot. Im so happy to see this game thrive, imo it genuinely outgrew all other supercell games considering how epic the community is and how much the game has to offer. As a f2p player, I complely agree with you that the Bling system is amazing and the amount of availble Bling is justified because it's free. Cosmetics are always awsome to have. But then you said the same thing for Hypercharges, and that's where you're wrong. Skins and cosmetics can be expansive and require a lot of grinding to get for free, because they are just that - cosmetics. They don't alter the game in any serious way, they just make your Brawler look 5 times as good. Hypercharges, on the other hand, not only alter the game, the game now completly revolves AROUND them. They give you a massive stat increase as well as an upgrade to your super ability, which includes (but not limited to) Fang being able to teamwipe even when there are walls around, Leon oblitirating you and running away while staying invisible the entire time, Edgar recharging his super in like 3 seconds, Crow and Collete one-shotting the heist safe and more. This ability is VERY omportant to have, and it costs almost as much as maxing out and entire brawler.They are WAY too expansive, so while I hate saying this, but for the first time since Starr road, this game is pay to win.

My biggest issue with bling is the fact that there is no limited skins anymore all the Christmas skins are available whenever and christmas and Chinese new year skins don’t feel special anymore I just wish they were only available during their duration same for the braw pass skins buying the brawl pass doesn’t feel cool anymore buying it you got a (usually) cool skin only brawl pass owners got aswell as the skin for that chromatic brawler for season kinda sad they made all brawl pass available because to me having those skins was a way to flex how long I had played for like wow that guy has the merchant Gale skin he must have played for a while now that’s just not a thing

Tbh, it is funny how I have been playing this game for so long but at the same time I became bored of the game right now. And it is not for any reason you have mentioned in the video, I just can’t stand the balance of the game right now. It just feels a lot more boring as an end game player, facing the same brawlers over and over and having trash randoms that can’t do anything. 5v5 was a great addition to make the game more fun (which imo you could have mentioned, since some people couldn’t play with more friends) and it made the game more exciting, but the balancing issues make it again pretty boring. But I hope they can improve it with the future!

I reinstaled brawl stars this year and I think the game is alot better, I made a whole new account and started all over again (I had 16k trophies in my old acc), with only 4k trophies, I already have 3 star powers, 2 mythics and 5 epic brawlers, for me back then this was some crazy progress, you would need atleast 9k trophies for that. Also I think removing the trophies need for certain brawlers was a great choice.
