He is only 18 Thou... he is still learning thou... its the publishers fault thou... his photos are not that bad thou... your photos are dull thou... your jealous thou... your criticism wasn't constructive thou... Don't judge a photographers skill by their age. there are many under18s who are fantastic photographers - brooklyn is not one of them. He hasn't learnt much - so really shouldn't be charging people for a published book of his "WORK" David and victoria also had a hand in the selection process and publication. his photos are not bad, they are terrible my photos are in focus and have a subject. criticism ≠ jealousy I don't need to be constructive. his book is already constructed.

Sorry Dom, I wholeheartedly disagree with what you are saying, of course people are jealous because we have this mindset in the current age of instant gratification and when we see something like this it pushes our buttons, our envy clicks in to gear, we all have it but why can't we flip that.... and be positive towards people and their actions... What Brooklyn and to an extent his family have done is built personal brands, if you build a personal brand, the world is your oyster, Brooklyn has put a lot of hours and time into building a social following... is his photo work good?? No... but thats not the point here... its about influence... Brooklyn has influence and a following (market).... Burberry didn't ask him to shoot for them because he was an amazing photographer, its because their brand would go out to millions of his followers putting Burberry on the tip of the tongue of millions of kids (a new market)... Thats business. The biggest thing we can build in life is leverage and thats exactly what the Beckhams have done, they have a huge amount of leverage... and ultimately the market will decide how much that leverage is worth... He has brought out a book of subjectively what you perceive as "shit" photos, is he wrong for doing that? Should he not do it because his work is not up to par, hell no... if anyone was in the same position they would jump at it... but as I say ultimately its the market that will decide and the sales will decide if it was a worthwhile exercise for Brooklyn, the personal brand he has built and following suggest it will be great business and a great decision... Don't worry about what Brooklyn is up to, he is doing just fine, whether you think his photos are "shit" or not and he has as much right as anyone else who owns a camera to release a book :) My 2 pence worth.

Steve Irwin's kid was lucky to be surrounded by loads of talented photographers and cinematographers, and he clearly worked to learn those skills and develop an eye. I'm jealous of that opportunity, but don't begrudge a single thing, as he's not accepting, let alone expecting, undeserved praise. That is not the case with Beckham. Beckham's parents should have gotten Mr. Miyagi to teach him the craft before giving him a Leica and a book contract. Burberry was certainly just leveraging one brand in support of another -- fine, but they don't deserve any respect for it.
@InvincibleJ7 жыл бұрын
I agree with this video 100%. This kid got lucky because of his name. It's sad when there are many far more talented photographers out there who should be published. I see far more interesting photos shared on Instagram. His pictures are nothing more than random boring snapshots and as you pointed out Dom, there's no context to them whatsoever. It doesn't even look like he's learnt the basics either and I would wouldn't be surprised if the majority of his pictures are shot in auto - someone who has his type of privilege should be learning from someone with experience and looking for a mentor, he has access to the top, world class photographers and making something of himself!. What an insult to aspiring photographers Utter pish. .

It isn't a problem at all. It just says that if you're well connected and have money, you can do whatever you want. Remember that Paris Hilton toured as a DJ and released a record. Sasha Grey published two novels, but for this photographer and those 2 women there's barely any talent at all in their creations. The problem is with the people that consumes that type of pop culture, because of the hype and wanting to be part of the trends. Luckily all those endeavours are short lived since it isn't their passion. Compare that to Shakespeare, that although he's dead, his books are still selling.

Most "good" photography is good because it has purpose, it was carefully set up, whether that be the subject or the composition or the angle or whatever. And then the edits match the feeling of the photo. They are thought through, even if captured seemingly spontaneously. But Brooklyn's photos look like he whipped out his camera and took the photo in 1 second without thinking or aligning anything. They seem random and lazy. That's why they're considered "bad". He needs to take an intro to art class or something and learn about the principles of design.

There’s a theme here…..did the book without the hard graft, then recently he did a cooking slot, on The Late Show (heralding himself as a ‘chef’….. for steak and chips and a bacon and egg sandwich🙄). His parents are close friends with James Cordon so there was no merit in that either. If he would just learn his trade and mastered it no one would flag it up. a lot of times to understand a pic, one should be educated in shadows,angles, composition, density etc. BUT....90% of viewers are..NOT. No, no, no! That is NOT the point. You have spectacularly missed the point. The whole point of a good photograph is that the untrained eye will pick it up. There will be something about it that you will automatically be attracted to it.

You see, the guy has potential and even when he stopped, I would recommend him to hire a prof to give him personal workshops. A prof with a similar style to Anton Corbijn. The guy is obviously in his black-and-white era, which many starting photographers have, and some will never grow out of it and become very good at it, while others are realizing how they can make colours work. And no, it's not patronizing, because colours are a difficult thing to get right, so it makes sense that beginners want to focus on the light first, even when they don't realize it themselves. Most beginners want to think they are really thoughtful and original and I'm also poking a bit fun at my younger self. If painters are struggling with colour, Brooklyn as a photography beginner has every right not to know what to do with colour. Corbijn had problems with focus in the beginning as well, which made him develop his contrasty black-and-white style, so it was less visible his photos weren't focused well. Just like Corbijn, he can change his weakness into a strength. If I look at the photo of his dad's hands, a Corbijn like processing in Photoshop might actually safe some of the images. I get your problem with Brooklyn. His skills aren't good enough to achieve worldwide fame, which is a valid point. I think he can become that if he actually used his nepotism to become a serious photographer. There are resources enough for him. Even the branding of documenting his famous parents would be fine with me if he actually puts in the work to become good.

I’m instantly thinking of Stella McCartney, granddaughter of Lee Eastman, Daughter of Linda McCartney who was a very accomplished photographer in her own right and I think her dad once sang or wrote a jingle or something like that. She tried to fight against her family's influence and wanted to do it in her own right. OK, it might have been like King Canute trying to turn back the tide, but you can’t maintain about 25 years of high level success in the fashion industry living off your parents names. I don’t begrudge the children of famous people success, and in some cases it must be hard as there will always be "Its not because of your talent, but because of who your mum and dad are." All credit to Steve Irwin's son, he’s got talent and is working hard with it, but I couldn't make head nor tail of Beckham's images. I know my grandsons are both younger, only got bridge cameras I bought them and are both taking far better images.

I think that those are different kinds of photography, though? Brooklyn’s are more experimental and fashion magazine’s kind it isn’t about telling something that will change your life for seeing it but to appreciate the beauty on some mundane things. And I do think that Brooklyn’s are similar to Tommy’s in a way, Brooklyn’s preference is to use b&w and there are many photographers who have that too. I’m not saying he deserves all that praise but that it’s just his style. He’s studying photography on a fashion school so that should be expected, nobody has to have a set style by any age, famous parents or not, he can explore and still be good at what he does. He’s not the best but also he isn’t the worst at it.

I'm my opinion, his photographs are basically like an aunt taking a photo but with a really fancy camera... they're just not that interesting to look at, especially if he's going to them in B&W. He just got really lucky because of his parents. This just goes to show that you can have really good equipment but not a photographers eye.

interesting point of view. his work maybe doesn't deserve to be published (many others deserve it more) but i think his work will be something that will be interesting to follow

He could take the first picture of an alien and this guy would be like: "It's just an alien... just nothing..." Meanwhile looking at some other dude's picture of a random person: "Look at the colors, look at the composition, omg so cool."

It says "what I see" on the book, not "let me teach you photography." art is subjective and "lines leading to a subject" are not mandatory. Just let the kid live his life. If you have a problem with it then maybe you have too much time on your hands.

Did you also publish and sell millions of copies of your bad photos because your rich celebrity parents funded your bad hobby? Of course not! So why give him a pass for his lack of talent? Yes, we've all been there. Yet he's benefitted from nepotism and celebrity and gotten all the love in the world DESPITE being as bad as all of us when we began!
@catherines3866 жыл бұрын
I agree with you for the most part, but the video would’ve of been more useful for other amateur or aspiring photographers if you did more constructive criticism besides saying that his photos are dull and have no subject. I personally clicked on this video to learn what was wrong with his photos and to learn how to improve my own photography, but I feel like I just wasted 10 minutes on mouth farts and comparisons to other photographers that are clearly just so much better. Idk I guess maybe that wasn’t the point of this video, but I probably would’ve learned just as much by flipping through his book myself.

Can the maker of this video or anyone explain wtf he means when he says there “isn’t much there” or “nothing is happening” how is something happening in anything of those close ups with an animal yet nothing is happening when he takes a pic of a ton of ppl at the beach? I know nothing a photography but I’m confused
@sumykid6 жыл бұрын
I think he means it in an abstract way as something special that makes the picture unique, for the animal photography it's the composition, the opposite colors contrasting and the sense of danger whereas the picture of the beach isn't as exciting or as visually pleasing to him. There isn't that one thing that attracts your attention so they feel a bit "flat" if you get what I mean. I hope that made things a bit clearer for you, he didn't really try to explain any his criticism though, and I think it's a bit rude of a video to make tbh

These guys obviously miss the point that his target audience are interested in instagram fashion photos, say, Juergen Teller, David Sims, Petra Collins, that kind of direction. It's plain, boring, yes, but that's what's going on circulating in their culture. Not the great techniques you like being what they care about at all.

‘all stuff you could really do with a toys r us camera’ since when has it mattered what kind of camera you use?? it’s about the actual image and not the amount of pixels? his work is not that bad imo but i’m young myself ...maybe let him develop before you pull him down? how good was your work when you were his age?

no, he has already developed, developed enough to be published by a major company and charging people for it. his work is not bad. it is shit. Wayne Gretzky doesn't make hockey sticks, Micheal Jordan doesn't make sports shoes, Tiger Woods doesn't make golf clubs and David Beckham doesn't do soccer balls. These guys are in advertising because they have a following of people. If some company wants to bank on his celebrity status and following his photography talent can be secondary

Art is subjective. There’s no proper way to take a photo if you’re an artist. Stop hating because he’s famous. Anything he does will get attention. Others will have to work harder. Tis life
@jackmiddleton20806 жыл бұрын
After looking at the pro photos his look so much worse. I am a film guy and what I like doing is imagining the shots turned into a movie scene. The photos from the kid look like a decent shot from a decent looking movie. The shots from the pro look better than anything you see in film. Really declaring themselves their own separate perfect single frame form of art.

The photographs I've seen are just average with some I would consider poor. Sometimes lighting, others, composition and framing. Brooklyn on the penguin book deal... "They actually first saw my work on Instagram, which has kind of helped". Maybe the Brooklyn Beckham sig. slightly ever so much as well... just maybe. Anyway, I've heard is follow up book is much better. "Blur it like Beckham". Free with the Daily Star on Sunday. 😊
