Did anybody ever build an F5 mandolin with four or five inches deep body, like a guitar? How would it sound?

A body that deep would lend itself more more nicely to an octave mandolin. Perhaps a larger soundboard area too….

The Goertzen is superior in tone.. can't see the instrument in its totality. The strings on the second mandolin look way beyond their prime. I prefer fully fretted mandolins, no abbreviations or "scoops" Just my thing.

Gibson's mandos start at $6000. $4800 CAD is a good price for a fully carved F-style made by one dude. You spend the time learning how to make an F-style and see how much you wanna charge for it-- a luthier still needs to eat.
