@@Hamm-toneGuitars After over four decades of remodel carpentry I've done a LOT of sketchy breathing. Been lucky so far and am very careful now...fingers crossed and thanks for the tutorial. My radius dishes are getting pretty wonky and I might try your method rather than buying again!

The Goertzen is superior in tone.. can't see the instrument in its totality. The strings on the second mandolin look way beyond their prime. I prefer fully fretted mandolins, no abbreviations or "scoops" Just my thing.

The main reason for tying all 6 strings together in this age old traditional method is to reduce the chance (yeah, it’s somewhat unlikely) of a string unravelling and slapping back on the soundboard, making an ugly mark. I’ve seen it more times than I wish. There are many ways. If you like your way, you should stay with it. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix. Right? Thanks for sharing your perspective!

Oh, you are so correct. The video is a sympathetic byproduct of what I do, in that I don’t really film these videos in a professional manner for profit. I’m just hoping that I can shed a little bit of light on certain things… But yeah, I totally feel silly for having such a big head with that massive corduroy hat in front of these different sections… Just learning different ways of filming. I’ll have to try making some sort of angled mounting structure for next time. Thank you for your input.

K&K pickups do a good job using them in an effective way. I basically try to mimic their method. I even mix a little bit of epoxy and seal off the solder joins on the back, it has just enough mass to reduce feedback and microphonic reaction, and it also helps make sure that the solder joins do not come loose. On this particular one I have it mounted directly beneath the bridge, using epoxy. Just one. On acoustic Guitars I will use three. I glued it on before I fastened the back.

What are your acoustic setup specs? I set my affordable Washburn up to 19-10 thou nut heights and 4-3 32nds with a capo on the first, 3-5 thou relief. I plays pretty fast.
@Hamm-toneGuitars
@Hamm-toneGuitars Ай бұрын
With action relative to the first fret, between 7/64 and 6/64 on the bass side, and 4/64 and 5/64 on the treble side on an acoustic guitar. I usually aim for a minimal amount of neck, relief, somewhere between .006” and “.012”. Nut slot height, in relation to the first fret, after the neck, relief and saddle is adjusted properly, usually somewhere between .006” and .012”, depending on the guitar, playing style is also a factor.
