1. Don't believe everything people say about bits dropping off. Remember these cars were put together by the owners, not quite a kit car but close. Build quality and attention to detail will have been variable to say the least. I had mine as my daily drive for 4 or 5 years without once breaking down or failing me. Look after it and it will reward you with a permanent grin. 2. DON'T keep comparing the Miata / MX5. The Elam was doing pretty much what the Miata does . . . But 50 o odd years ago. At the time a well driven Elan on English type roads would show a clean pair of heals to an E Type.

Great car.. I have a S2 1965 and it has never broken down.. When you are in tune with this car it tells you something is going to break, remember this car needs to be checked carefully .. it is an enthusiasts car and not for everyone..

The Elan was everything the MGB, TR4 etc failed to be: light and quick with fantastic steering, handling and brakes. The biggest surprise? How comfortable it was.

The Elan is cute and historically hugely significant, but a Miata NA is better overall at a fraction of the cost.

Please, you're not Jay Leno. The word is pronounced "Ell anne". Not " Ee Larne". And, if you want to drive one of these properly, as I have been for the last 45 years, learn how to hold a steering wheel. If you're not sure how, just find any old film clip of Jim Clark, or Jackie Stewart driving.
