I bought this lens 2 days ago for my Fuji camera. Its fun to use, sharp in the centre. Needs contrast adding in post. Ive taken it on my nature walks, closeup to macro works well. Using the lens at 18mm and 300mm to see the difference in compression. For an all rounder lens its great. IQ a bit soft at some focal lengths. On the whole im glad I bought it. I prefer to slightly underexpose in bright light too, looks nicer.

If you could only choose between the 17-70mm and 18-300mm which would you go for? Can you get good subject isolation and bokeh from the 18-300 between 50-70mm?
@jacobkushar Жыл бұрын
@@argentum3919 i have the same question
@SiddharthJogi19 күн бұрын
@@argentum3919 I have used both 17-70 and 18-300 and I could say yes, you do get a good subject isolation for the 18-300mm, at 70mm it's F5 which also gives fairly good enough bokeh already, however, if you want more of subject seperation, all you need is to step back a little bit and take from 100mm, while this lens kinda falls apart in night time, as the aperture is compromised, the bokeh also kinda suffers from Barrel distortion, so 17-70mm has a fair advantage over that! also for 17-70 at f2.8 you won't get a good background blur at wide focal ranges, so you'll be only left with 35-70mm for the bokeh, but that extra zoom range from 70-300mm is a great zoom range, you get more blur if you have enough room, if you wanna buy any one of two, I would suggest you to buy 18-300 as it gives more zoom range and maybe buy a primes from sirui if you want some crazy bokeh! I'm thinking to cover a youtube video for this topic...

Wow, what a great video, and what great shots! I've been a photographer since I was 5. Nowadays, I shoot Nikon full frame, and recently bought a Sony A6700 for smaller travel outfit. Thx for the review. I think the Fuji XF70-300mm is a better choice, why ? because most people will buy a combo xt-4 with 16-55mm or even 16-80mm so it cover already a part of the range of the tamron 18-300mm. My second reason, i can add teleconverter 1.4x or 2.0x to the fujifilm ...something i can't with the Tamron.
@TheSlantedLens2 жыл бұрын
Good points. The problem with adding the teleconverter is that you lose sharpness and exposure.

Subscribed. Found this after watching your video about manual mode. Just this last week, purchased this very lens based on my local camera shop suggestion. I was all tuned to get the 17-70 Tamron which had not yet arrived when ordered. A bit apprehensive because of the focal range but I am a very very beginner and have loads to learn about my a6000 of which I have had since 2014 and probably shot less than 100 photos. I already have tons of lenses but wanted one to cover almost all my shooting as I learn. Will watch more of your stuff really like your delivery style as I know it takes a lot to produce and deliver. Thanks

I have the 11-20, 17-70, 70-180 and the 18-300 all around is comign in tomorrow. I tried the Sony RX10 III for an all around single lens camera but I was disapointed with how it handles and perfomance was lacking. This with my a6100, or a6400 or a6700 (yes I own them all, and just sold my a6000) will make for a great walk around lens.

Thanks for your review! I already bought the tamron 17-70, but could still send it back and get the 18-300. However instead of sending it back, I'm considering getting the sony 70-350mm and keep the tamron 17-70. that would of course be more expensive but many say the sony would be the better lens and that the combo of these two would be nice. Now im thinking if this is worth 700€. what would you recommend?

Hi, just ant to know if you still use the Tamron 18-300mm. I still use my old Sony NEX 6 and am seriously looking at the Tamrom 18-300mm,the new cost here in NZ is $1250 and I have just spotted a second hand one for $950 with only 3 months warranty, just wondering if I should be concerned at buying 2nd hand so I would like to know if you have had any issues with the lens to this date. Cheers Glenn from NZ

It is a great lens with a wonderful range. I don't usually buy used lenses. You would want to make sure you shoot it a lot within the warranty period in case there is a problem. And do a focus test.

Hi JP! Sorry if you already mentioned this somewhere, but I'm really curious on your opinion on a two-body set-up. From what I've gathered from your channel so far, you seem to really like zoom lenses, and it's kind of giving me the confidence that I won't need two bodies, although someone around me who's getting into funeral photography keeps insisting she'll need a second body, and I kind of feel I need to talk her out of it.

A lot of wedding and event photographers will carry a second body with a wider lens or longer lens depending on how they work.

I have an A6000 and after 8 years it's almost dead, Viewfiner doesn't work, doesn't recognise the lens have the time. Anyway I have the 55-200mm Sony lens and all I photograph is wildlife, everything from Hummingbirds to Frogs. Would love to know if 18-300m is the next step up for me and also what new body should I get? The 55-200 doesn't cut the mustard anymore, it's crap aperture and just not crispy at all. People are suggesting A6400. My budget is around 1k USD.

In that price range the a6400 is a good choice. And you will love the 18-300mm from Tamron.

I used Tamron 18-200 (yes, not 300) superzoom lens for F mount on my D5000 until very recently, pretty crappy lens, but hey what do you expect from a $250 do-it-all glass, but makes for a decent tele lens with added benefit of versatility, also gives a surprisingly decent picture for extra long exposure shots, no reflections or anything. When I switch to full frame it hopefully will be a Nikon Z6, I plan to continue using it as a tele lens in crop mode, would save me a few hundred $ by using something I already own plus would allow to go wide angle if there's no time to swap lens.
