Idaho has a huge diversity of microclimates and microcultures. After 21 years in the US Army, I retired to rural eastern Idaho in 2016. Then the pandemic happened and we are almost suburbia. Idaho can be awesome if you adjust to the microclimates and microcultures.

As someone who’s lived in Idaho my whole life, I feel like I’ve been shut out by the cost of living. My parents were forced to leave because they couldn’t afford how expensive Idaho got when they got older. Don’t get me wrong I love this state, I wouldn’t feel pressured to leave if I wasn’t struggling to make ends meet. It used to be affordable before all the people moved in. My parents remembered when the first boom of people came in the 80’s and then it kept growing and booming once again. People used to be very friendly, but now everyone’s bitter and upset because of all the people. I could see these things scaring other people off. Idaho can’t keep up with the amount of people and it shows. I miss the days where things were all fields.

It’s literally a domino affect from having open borders and all of these illegal immigrants who come here expecting a safe haven and realizing that it is almost just as bad here now than it is from where they came from. Everyone gets shuffled around population goes up and everyone is forced to have to deal with extreme culture shock to the point where communication and transparency is completely gone add that with covid and you have a disaster

I lived in Boise for about 10 years. Loved it. Sadly, the wages weren't nearly what were needed for the cost of living. Once in a while, my ex-wife asks if I would agree to move back with our kids. I'll pull up the Ada County Sheriff's recruitment page to see what their wages are and see that I would take a nearly $20 per hour pay cut. That's if I convinced them to start me off at their highest pay rate.

Yet I'm sure I'm living in probably the one of the best States in the country. Depending on the town/city we have everything we need. Yes, we have harsh winters, but we aren't worrying about tornado and hurricanes destroying out home. We don't have to worry about any other crazy weather that could kill us. We can also walk our neighborhoods anytime at night without worrying about running into something sketchy. My kids feeling safe outweighs living in a city where there is "more to do".
@jamieku51326 күн бұрын
@@MrRedsi Idaho is nice but it’s changing rapidly, especially Boise area. By the way, crime is going up in Idaho- just look at recent statistics. Natural disasters happen everywhere- you may not have to worry about hurricanes, but what about wild fires? People with asthma have been advised to not move to Idaho because of this. Air quality is actually not that great in Idaho compared to other places. My point is Idaho is not the Holy Land like these realtors make it out to be. They are enticing people to come to an area that is changing drastically from all the people moving in. There are other places just as nice as Idaho that actually need people- Idaho does not and this is exactly why wages are so low and cost of living is high in Idaho. If people were needed there- it would be the opposite. People should realize they are paying almost California prices and not getting an ocean or the great weather.

So now, the people who don't want growth, have switched to plan B. No not the birth control lol. We have refused to approve any new services i.e. no increase in taxes or school bonds. And Idahoans if they come from the country, most of us, will just keep voting against any services that will support the growth.
