Here is why you can never have enough VCAs.
This is part 0 - Introduction to a coming video series about VCA usage in a modular synth environment.
If you would like me to feature one of your modules in a video or tutorial, feel free to contact me.

BIG RESPECT for sharing your knowledge! I wouldn’t know where to begin with the modular gear, having come from semi modulars, like the Moog Mother 32 or Behringer’s Neutron! I see that I have VCAs in the semi modulars, but I don’t so often remember that there are so many different forms of VCA. They are more like a Kingdom or Class of life! Not like a Species! Your final VCA example, bringing in and closing out of the FM, it is really a great eye opener for me! THANK YOU so much for sharing!

You've convinced me! I've started using the built in vca in my Dave Smith filter, and I've already got a noisereap vca kit on the way :) thanks for the simple straightforward lesson!

Thanks for the very informative series! I'm just starting a very small system ( Make Noise Maths and a DPO ) and have spent about two weeks trying to decide what's next for me. It'll be either a Sputnik Quad Filter / VCA or a MN Optomix. Thanks again!

Frank, I was wondering what would happen if you took a bipolar wave and just slid it up or down to make it unipolar above or below the 0 amplitude middle mark while keeping it's shape and frequency the same.. would that only effect the volume or ...?? Really appreciate the videos btw.

Tambour: www.google.com/search?q=tambour You mean timbre. /ˈtambər/ noun: the character or quality of a musical sound or voice as distinct from its pitch and intensity.

How many VCAs do I need if I have 3 oscillators, 2 LFO, one FM synthesizer like Akemie's Castle and a wave table synthesizer?

hi Frank, based on your videos, im thinking of getting an attenuverter... my question is if you think this one is a good one... and whether it's bi-polar.. -Would appreciate your input. www.befaco.org/en/dual-atenuverter/
@PlerbyMcFlerb

The word "Attenuverter" basically means it's an attenuator and inverter, which means it's bipolar. The one you're looking at is definitely bipolar. I wouldn't deliberate too much about things like attenuverters personally. Just pick something that looks reasonable and go with it. That module in the link looks perfectly good to me, especially since it's got DC offset built into it too.
