You can support women and fight for women’s rights without labeling yourself as a feminist, which prioritizes white, western women. In Islam, women’s rights is already a fundamental part of the religion, so calling yourself Muslim is enough.

@IMJ , if you would take the wool out of your ears, In Dhaka Allah, you would hear that many of the RIGHTS they were fighting for were the RIGHTS Allah Subhana wa T'ala had given women The problem was that MEN have denied women the RIGHT to EXERCISE these God given RIGHTS! Second, I don’t disagree with what you’re saying, but feminism is not the way, Islam is the way. If some men in our community misinterpret Islam and deny us our rights that doesn’t mean we should turn to feminism. Some things in feminism we can agree with, but others are haram such as abortion, premarital sex, homosexuality, and supporting sex workers, not wearing the hijab, etc. MANY aspects of feminism contradict Islamic teachings and so it is horrible to support it. We can support women’s rights through our religion.

@@islamance the problem is every time the subject of “rights” is brought up people immediately begin thinking of western ideas and modernist philosophies and rhetoric like yours about Islam being “all about women’s rights” sometimes fuels that (of course women have rights given to them by Allah SWT) but Islam is about obeying Allah nothing else and we should strive for that in all aspects of life

Most claimants to religion and philosophy were sexist, but God's religion never was. Even if we ignore benefits, women in my country tend to get more for the same work, but Islam says that each should be payed the same for the same work. Men do more manual work in hourly jobs, take less time off, do more overtime, and seek more raises and sales. Feminism, in its war of the sexes, objectification, and devaluing of inherent differences, hurts everyone by its sexism. It is not about social justice, but a tool for the elite.

The last time women were as unhappy as they currently are according to studies was the 1950s (in the West). The decades after many of their husbands had died after WW2. This in spite of higher than ever before rates of equality, opportunity, freedoms and rights that they have fought so hard to win. The truth is, if you want to be the kind of woman that your friends supposedly admire, you know, a go-getter, a “warrior”, outspoken, fierce, you will earn the respect of us men, because we respect those qualities in our father. But we don’t want to hug that on a sofa. It’s as off-putting as the shy, slight, sensitive, softly spoken man that struggles with eye contact.

I can be a feminist for other women in this world who dont have the privilege of islamic rules. There's still young girls being married off to older men against their will, young girls suffer from genital mutilation, young girls who aren't allowed to go to school or work even if they desperately want to. Just because you can benefit from Islam it doesn't mean that others can as well.

Bibi fathima(as) was married to imam ali at the age of 9 well before the modern day age of consent which is 18 , so I think there's problem with neo-liberal definition of child marriage which doesn't seem to work with Islam. Coming to FGM it's highly debatable. Just because feminism with its insane political correctness authoritarian idealogy says genital mutilation is wrong doesn't make it wrong, it depends on cultures and a thorough introspection through history to why such a practice was instituted in the 1st place. If you are a Muslim feminist then do not wear a burka, do not wear a hijab etc.. Don't conform to they standards on how Muslim nations see women and how they are meant to dress and behave. If you do conform to those said rules, then you can't be a feminist.
