Why can't I get this meat bird watering thing to work right?

If you have a picture of what you're describing, that would be awesome. I also have cups that just don't work. So, they don't fill with water. Any advice?

It doesn't have a lid either, does it?

I don't have a lid on it, but I could. I ended up doing something different though, but do still have a bucket in there, on top of a cement house block, with a large rock in it so they can't knock it off :)
