I sent a 2023 S silver set in to NGC. I paid extra for the photography of the coins in the set. I was checking online for the photographs when they suddenly appeared. One of the quarters was a partial quarter and the photographer’s hand including her wedding rings. I immediately called and pointed out the error. The sent went through QC for checking before shipping. QC approved the photograph and when I called the second time they removed the picture but still shipped me the slabs 😳🤦‍♂️ haven’t sent them anything else since. Bad QC process or maybe NO QC process

I generally prefer PCGS but the fact is that they both have problems with a variety of things including inconsistent grading

Look at the bright side, hopefully at least your cert numbers are correct :) I just discovered, that few coins I asked to reslab some time ago (wanted the mint error designations) have non-verifyable slab numbers now. The coins got new certification numbers after reslabing, but if the cert numbers are verified on NGC web site, nothing is found. Bar codes luckily still work, but open the coins under the totally different (old) numbers. With correct pictures, thank god. I also asked the NGC to fix it, but they didn't. It kinda feels like the NGC has serious workforce problem, and it has been that way some time already. The best graders are usually coin collectors or coin dealers, but (according to my understanding) as soon as one becomes a grader, they face restrictions to avoid conflicts of interest. This significantly limits the number of people who are both willing and qualified to grade coins for any TPG. As a result, graders are a limited resource, and all grading services are competing for these few individuals. And it looks like NGC is not competing well enough...

I paid about two dollars over spot for a 1999 maple in the blister pack and it was incredibly nice. Unfortunately I ended up selling it because I needed to sell a few coins/bullion. It didn’t take long to sell and I actually made a decent profit on it. I think the Lcs didn’t have people interested in it at the time I bought it.

We've seen so many videos of Ben sending coins off for customers to get certified with excellent results so that would be an exception to buying them certified already.

NGC and PCGS variety attribution has been very not great since the Covid days. At this point I almost want to send all of my varieties to ANACS and cross them over once they're already attributed.

I have also noticed that NGC seems to receive your money for errors and rpd- I have a couple very obvious Rpd’s that came with no attribution’s. Not a good look for them.

It's always a toss of the dice sending into grading companies. I think grading coins for 40 hours a week might lead to complacency. Move more coins through faster and make more money. Slap a grade on it and grab the next coin.

Because NGC is one of the companies of the Certified Collectibles Group, which is one of the most poorly managed companies in the entire grading industry, filled with incompetents and "good old boys." Blackstone bought them in mid-2021 at the height of the collecting bubble for a ridiculous $500 million, and now they are worth perhaps as little as $150 million. They just conducted a huge round of layoffs, are inexplicably *raising* prices, and are clearly being prepared to be sold off. That's why.

A 1992 Canadian maple leaf coin (lest we forget a strictly inteded as bullion coin, and not circulated as a unit of everyday trade) is arbitrarily designated by the mint to carry a valuation of $5 Canadian (so that amount stamped into the planchet figure is for all intents and puposes just about meaningless!), but ,which government issued disc of silver, in reality has a silver 'spot price' just under $31 U.S. ,which is it's current precious metals agreed upon/traded worth (but which is likely to be true for today only!). But hold on, because it's packaged in a particular grading services plastic holder, and is assigned a strictly opion based ( but not your/the collecting publics opinion!) particular degree of preservation, it is now miraculously worth $150 U.S. ? (according to your and perhaps again some other third ,or fourth, or fith parties opinion!) O.K. yeah that sounds like real reasonable and appropriate logic on which to base a valuation! So answer me this please, Mr. Ben I have coins with twice the age, roughly double the scarcity and boatloads more historical interest not ascribed nearly this much worth by either collectors/dealers/valuation publications. How do you square that, or justify any of this (what appears to be,in my opinion) completely made up , anti logic, unsupportable valuation? It's a rhetorical question Mr. Coin Geek, since there is obviously no clear logical reasoning to support such a valuation. It's hype and merchandising plainly apparent for any thinking person to see. And yes you should probably be disappointed in many of the decisions made by the various grading companies. They set themselves up to be able to profit on the coins owned by others, not as arbiters of truth and custodians of integrity in the hobby.

@@highplainsdrifter6577 Great joke. My point is 'spot price' for silver back in 1993 in U.S. dollars (unsure about Canada) was $4.31 so even back then the two numbers didn't exactly jibe or correlate to much of anything. The whole thing is a contrived, "The Emperors New Clothes" fabrication . Perhaps even more so when ascribing collector coin values to modern ,or semi modern 'intended as bullion' only coins. Creates a market with high premiums to be made for dealers and brokers (and a lucrative hustle for grading co.'s), which is the main ,though largely unspoken gambit or idea I suppose.

All 3rd party grading companies have issues… reality isn’t started back in early 1970’s… so no 3rd party grading and I think a much better atmosphere in LCS’s though you also had to deal with the scam dealers who cleaned coins and always claimed a higher grade… we were pretty careful and deal with a local guy who was really pretty honest… all I e ended up with some nice mid to high grade Morgan’s. A few cleaned and also some nice varieties that weren’t identified… All 3rd party grading companies have issues… I’ve sent to PCGS, CACG and NGC… either deal with it or just quit sending them off… keep and or sell as is… a necessary evil is what I consider now… too many fakes and scams going on…
