Thank you, Yankee. As someone new to stacking several years ago, I had acquired some silver seminumismatic pieces which were high premium and low mintage thinking that down the road they will CERTAINLY appreciate in value over time. But....as it turns out, the collectibles market just isn't there........for now. Will we recoup those high premiums? Most likely not. Unless there is a buyer who most absolutely has to have those pieces in their stash. Fortunately, lesson learned. A majority of the stack now is all government minted and generic/private minted bullion with a few pieces sprinkled in of seminumismatic.

I remember seeing a bumper sticker that read: "If you think that education is expensive, check out the price of ignorance." That can and has cost us all a bundle. It's not a sin to be ignorant. It IS a sin to remain that way because the people who will take advantage of ignorance are legion. When most of us started stacking, we didn't know a lot about it, other than that it was a good idea. They led us to buy things that appealed to us but that weren't good for us financially. In time and via reading various YT channels, blogs, and other online info educated us about what was good to stack and what was not so good. My worst misstep was pretty mild. I bought 40 5-oz. SilverTowne prospector 0.999 bars. This wasn't a bad mistake, as silver was only $14.50 an oz. when I bought them. I'm hoping to sell them during the next silver squeeze and use that cash to buy more gold. I need another 24 ozs. of gold to meet my gold stacking goal. At the current prices that would be about 2200 ozs. of silver. That's do-able but a higher silver price would make it a little nicer. 🙂

its all about time...the thing people dont tell you when you stack is you CAN get every penny back if you have the time to sell it to the people who pay more...BUT lol as I know as you know when you sell your stack in an "emergency" there is no time, you want cash TODAY...

Colorized 1oz silver coins with very limited mintages (100 to 500) typically sell for a nice premium to collectors on eBay. I bought a bunch of these coins in auctions around 5 years ago for $40 to $50 and recently sold most of them on eBay for $90 to $120, although with auctions fees and shipping costs that definitely cut into my profit margin. Also, silver was around $15 then so these coins typically will sell for a premium relative to the current silver price. An example of these types of coins is a 2023 Dia de los Muertos, Day of the Dead, 1 oz Silver Colorized Coin, limited to 100 mintage.

I made he same mistake of buying silver coins I liked the look of when I started collecting; interesting coins, artistic coins, coloured coins etc. The good thing is that it got me interested in coins and I eventually moved on to stacking bullion silver and gold coins. I managed to sell my Germania coins eventually (people do really like them) but am left with most of the others such as coloured Walking Liberties (really beautiful works of art), Dragon and Tiger coins, proof Britannia coins etc. If the price of silver eventually hits the roof, I will sell them too but I wouldn't get my money back if I sold them now.
