It's also easy if you have a Thai child. Rayong Immigration were absolutely brilliant. They saw my wife and I have been married for 12 years plus our 4 year old daughter in hand. They never even checked our home. The officer asked how we lived? My wife explained that I live from my day trading. I showed the officer last years profit and loss report. To which the officer laughed and asked me if I had a brother or friend. The whole experience was very easy.

One aspect of marriage vs retirement visa that you didn't consider is if you plan to apply for Permanent Residency (PR) at some point. Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that you cannot get PR from a retirement extension, whereas you can get it from a marriage extension.

After 5 years here, the nice lady at the immigration swich me from O visa for mariage reason to O visa for retired reason, after I showed her 800K, and yes, it is easier, no more visits, no more pictures. But still have to give some infos from my wife..

Yes I understand that regarding getting a marriage visa, they could see that as trying to get a work permit to, but what if you are married and at retirement age.....and also a multi entry visa on a marriage visa..?

My question is, would a marriage visa make it easier to obtain residency than a retirement visa?

An Immigration policeman, in the month of February, told me that he had already arrested 19 people that year for false marriage claims, mostly from Africa. No wonder they get suspicious. I never had problems with my marriage extensions and only ever one police visit.

My marriage visa was a bit difficult pictures, police visit to house, they never asked about money as I had the money in a thai bank When I fly back to Canada in March I will have spent just under 18 months here Not bad for just under $4000 baht Alot of paper work but flying around the world a couple of times during covid has made me use to carrying a binder full of paperwork

If you go with the 800k option then wouldn't immigration wonder how you are supporting yourself? I do understand that "this is Thailand" applies to everything but I still SMH in amazement at some of the rules and legislation.

So, marriage visa is easier if you have wife + child + work permit?? I'm not sure you make this clear. EVERYTHING you explain seems to be maybe/probably, might be, not sure, not black and white, etc... I have Thai wife, we have one child, and I have employment visa + work permit for 10 years with salary way above 40,000 baht per month. So no problem, right? YES/NO/MAYBE?

@@IntegrityLegalThailand Hi, the question I want to ask is, I have been coming to Thailand for nine years and I have been living with the same lady for seven years, we are a couple but I have never seen the reason to get married as we are happy as we are. I have always brought money with me for any emergency that could happen, meaning I have never had medical insurance because I have thought if nothing happens the money spent on medical insurance is saved but now I cannot do this?, I have tried to get Thai insurance but they will not insure me because I am 74. In England they want over a thousand pounds for medical insurance and I don't have any medical problems. The amount they are asking for makes my holiday hard to find as I am on pension and I can live comfortably at home and also in Thailand. This is proving to be a stumbling block for me and I cannot find a way to get around it. I live in a small village in East Thailand with my lady and her mother and brother when I come to Thailand. My lady works for the government but she also cannot find any way forward. So I am writing to you to see if you could help me with this problem. Thank you for reading this email, Jimmy.
