i got to live in cape breton for a few years for college, even though i wasn't born there and sadly don't live there today, once you've been to cape Breton it's easy to call it home, they say home is where the heart is and i know my heart yearns to be back in the cape. though my grand mother still lives there and my family tree can be traced back to the fortress of Louisbourg the part the makes cape breton home is the way of living that you can't find anywhere else, not across Canada or the world. i've gotten to be lucky in life, i've seen the notre dame before the fire, i've stood in front of the eiffel tower at night and seen it light up, i got to be in attendance at the 100th anniversary of vimy ridge, i've been disappointed in person by the mona lisa and astonished by many of the other great works in the louvre, but i dont long to see any of it again i long to live in the cape even if just another day.

I was born in Cape Breton and agree its wonderful. I have often said nobody ever left because they wanted to but rather they had to make a living. My first ancestor arrived there in 1750 long before there was a start to a Canada in 1867. I agree with you about Mona she was underwhelming but what a money maker.

@@NewstateNomads we love the landscape! The trees, hills, lakes and ocean, plus all the wildlife. The people are also very friendly 😊. We stayed in Baddeck for 3 days, it’s a beautiful area. We did the Cabot trail, did some hiking, Bell museum, Louisbourg ( the fortress was interesting but that day it was extremely windy and rainy, I could maybe understand that some of the French immigrants from the 1700’s when they experienced that weather must have thought why did I ever leave France 😜), and Sydney.

Ive never seen a section on the Miners Museum, or/with the personal interest you took to it. Love that. Love you, beautiful people. My dad was a coal miner. His dad before him. Lots of our friends and family were coal miners. My father, like the fathers of many from here, have gone into collapsed mines to on rescue and recovery missions with no question. It's been such a big part of our communities. It's just a really really beautiful thing that you took a personal interest. Enjoy your exploring

Very meaty with the best parts being larger than other locales’. Can’t visit Canada any time soon, as we are taking a Greek cruise in October, and I can’t wait! cape breton is a much different way of life, i got to live there for a few years, and as my grandmother says when you get to the island you've stepped 50 years into the past, i remember the first time someone i never met offered me a ride, it was around 3 am and the only convince store was a 30 minute walk to town down the high way, a smaller looking fella pulled over after his head lights caught me he threw it in reverse and asked "hey man are you okay do you need a ride or anything?" me being from Ontario my immediate though was of malicious intent so i politely told him i was fine and he went on his way, a few weeks went by and it had gotten to the point that if i needed to walk somewhere id throw my thumb up and with in 5 minutes id have a ride if not before i put my thumb up, i remember a little later when i had gotten a car i put it in a ditch, sun caught the frost in the morning and all the jazz, but before i even opened my door the person on the road behind me had pulled over to check if i was okay, then the next car did the same, and the next, no one is in a rush and people have time to be humans still.

Sorry you missed the West Coast from Cheticamp to Port Hawkesbury. You totally forgot to check out the amazing Scottish culture ( even have a Gaelic Radio Station, Gaelic elementary school, recreated Highland Village, Gaelic College, etc.) Inverness has award winning golf courses and beaches. Mabou, Port Hood, Judique amazing music and musicians of various genres (especially Scottish music) in beautiful venues. Beaches with some of the warmest waters north of the southern United States. These and more make the western side of Cape Breton more than worth a look. Too bad you just followed the usual though great tourist path and like so many miss the whole essence of Cape Breton.
