So penalizing good drivers with good driving records is acceptable now because of car thefts and fraudsters? If the insurance coverage is mandatory then the government should make sure there is a ceiling on how much one's insurance can be raised if they have a good driving record. But wait, the more insurance companies make--> the more they give to the government...mystery solved.

Someone I know had their car grazed by the tires of a huge SUV. The damage amounted to rubber being deposited on the paint on two doors and some on a rim. The front bumper did sustain a scrape. She took to the car to a bodyshop recommended by the insurance co. Well, they gave her an estimate of over $4000...repairs included new rims, sensors, painting the doors and front bumper. I went to her car and wiped of the deposited rubber from the doors and rims with a rag and some soap....not a thing else! No marks remained. Then she went to my bodyshop guy and had the bumper repaired for $400....looks new. She informed the insurance company of the quote going from over $4000 to $400. The insurance company did NOT care and basically told her that how it is. She even suggested to them to investigate....NOTHING was done. Car thefts including shops that fleece the consumers. In fact, I was told by an insider in the business that this situation is common.

My uninsured/underinsured premium is pretty high. I really wish insured drivers could walk away from any accident with an uninsured driver. I don’t even care if it’s a DUI - you should face the criminal charges but as for the liability to the other car - you should be able to walk away. It’s exactly what they would do to you. As for auto thefts, a couple 5-10 year sentences may help deter future theft. Of course we can continue to try the whole they say they’re sorry and they promise they won’t do it again strategy and just release them.

I wish you would factor this in when you review vehicles. Although vehicles like the Honda civic, Honda CRV, Toyota Highlander, Toyota Tundra, all Lexus models may be reliable, but they are super expensive to insure. Many insurance companies may not even insure many of these vehicles. That needs to factor into which vehicle to purchase. It may be better to buy a less reliable vehicle that's easier to repair than a more reliable vehicle that's stollen frequently. That should be factored into your reviews. You may be paying less for repairs on a lexus, but is that being offset by skyrocketing insurance.

If insurance companies actually gave two shits about cars being stolen, they would collude with the car manufacturers to make them less easy to fucking steal! But, i’d bet my life they wont do that.
@bsmirnovАй бұрын
I'm Ontarian. Does it make sense to skip "comprehensive" insurance entirely and leave only mandatory by law liability portion for a car that is past its warranty period? Cause with the cost of repair so high for such a car even minor damage may mean a write off. Also, the way how residual value is calculated by Carfax or Black Book, it makes it questionable for an owner whether to pay so high insurance premiums, because over the course of 5-6 years you basically pay your insurance company the cost of your vehicle if not more, so when you get hit you lose-lose-lose - your car, your premiums, your potential selling value. Who needs such an insurance?
@upendrarane-w7b2 ай бұрын
Ontario auto insurance is a broken system and it’s high time provincial government make it right. After rent that’s a second major cost for families. Recently, I got my car hit from back by a Quebec driver and he said his insurance was only $ 70 per month. He was not worried about his insurance premiums increasing for his fault. Whereas in Ontario the monthly premiums will go up by $ 70 on top of avg. premium of $ 250 to $ 300 a month if you are at fault. The other states like Manitoba are also having premiums around $ 100 per month. How the auto companies in these provinces can afford to operate despite hight theft and frauds? How come this disparity and discrimination?
@carhelpcorner2 ай бұрын
Manitoba has government run insurance rather than private insurance, which is why their rates are so much lower. They also have a tiny population which helps allow the government system to work pretty efficiently at a lower cost.
