A huge scam here is the USA is the dealer you bought your car from will send you a letter about a year after you bought it and tell you they need your year/model of car and that you can get a new one for a smaller payment. I sadly got ripped off doing this as they put the balance of my old car on the new car and I wound up paying 35k for a 24k car! & yes the payment was about $27 dollars less per month but it took me over 6 years to get that paid. I’ll never do that again! Really dislike dealers. Please keep up these videos as you are great! I really appreciate them! 👍🏻😁🏎️

@dkrawk8309 lol... I didn't even make it home before they called me to apologize and asked me to please come back the next day to buy their 2% car... They tried to upsell me a warranty for $1200. The car was STILL UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY. I dug my heels in because I had them over a barrel and I knew it. In Texas rural counties, this is pick-up country.. I was buying a Honda Fit with a MANUAL TRANSMISSION. A 2 % car. They gave too much on it in trade in, and figured they'd upsell that warranty to make up for their loss. Car sat on their lot almost a year... I knew they were desperate to sell it.. but didn't count on my stubbornness. They got mad after a 4 hour attempt to sell the warranty, it was 10 pm, they got frustrated and yanked the keys out of my hand and said, fine. We have 10 people who want this car. Like I said, I didn't make it home, my phone was ringing...🤣. And I got a cute little, fun to drive Honda Fit 3 years old with 12,000 miles on it for $11, 900. Drove it for 8 years and LOVED it. But memorial weekend we had an F-3 tornado ripped through and 😭 it totaled my beautiful car. 😭😭😭😭😭. It had 223,800 miles on her. Still ran like a champ.

Also, you mentioned specifically finance AT the dealership, does that matter? Thanks for the comment because it had me really thinking as I'm in the market in buying a new car.

Never buy any extended warranty or protection plan. A friend of mine works in the insurance industry, and he always laughs at protection plans. He says it is almost impossible to get anything from them. In fact, much less than 1% of customers who have these "plans" ever try to contact the insurance company. Many do not even know they have these bogus "plans" because they are often added quietly and no proper paperwork is given.

About buying for cash, when I was a car salesman over 30 years ago, did get these buyers occasionally and some actually paid with currency, which required careful counting of the bills. I worked for a Jaguar dealer in CT and we also sold VW and Range Rover. The RR station was a block away with trains coming up from NYC. One day some buyers had walked in after getting off the train. They were dressed plainly and lived in NYC. I was alone in the fancy showroom, everyone else had disappeared. I showed the woman a one-year-old Certified Pre Owned (CPO) Jag, took her on a test drive. She gave me a $7,000 dollar deposit, all in cash. Told me to get it ready, she would return in two days to pick it up. In those days, XJ6 sedans like this sold for around 30k, so around 32k with sales tax. And yes, she gave me the $25,000 balance again all in cash. She was an RN, and they make very good money. Fortunately, these small town dealers are a little more laid back than the highway stores, and I often dealt with unusual requests.

There are some more ways to do that (faced them recently): 1. Not giving you written quote or quote is written poorly with numbers that do not add up (for example, total sum or tax doesn’t match with msrp + fees) 2. Try to lure you with car you need or really good deal for a long trip, so they could try to coerce you into buying another (more expensive, usually) model or trim. Don’t agree on quotes given by phone, even if they explicitly say that “this price includes all fees and taxes”, ask for a proper quote. One dealership tried to lure me into 300km trip with this tactics and kinda backed off when I asked for proper quote, like “I’m not working with papers, I work personally. So you need to come if you want that great offer I’m giving you” 3. Selling display cars as completely new, despite having some mileage and completely scratched “keys”

You still have to be careful with all of them. Lately, In Canada it is popular to re-register an accident repaired vehicle and sell it as a "Rebuilt title. Never buy a car with a rebuilt title! You also have to look at the mileage in Kms and not in miles, so you'd have to do a conversion from miles to Kms (metric) so you know the real mileage.

In the USA, most are very well protected by state laws. Bribes got them what they wanted. Don't like it? Organize with your neighbors and vote.
@jerrylundegaard25922 ай бұрын
That is easy. Every state has franchising laws which require all new vehicles to be sold through a franchised dealer. In most states, since Tesla does not have franchised dealers, Tesla is able to sell directly to the public. Whether Tesla's sales model is good or not good for the public is debatable. The fact Tesla has lowered its prices several times suggests Tesla is not a "wonderful" as many people seem to believe.
@oleglishchenko49222 ай бұрын
@@jerrylundegaard2592 yes, Tesla isn't perfect. But direct selling is much better than feeding unscrupulous middlemen.
@jerrylundegaard25922 ай бұрын
@@oleglishchenko4922 That is not inherently correct. When you buy from a seller who sells with little or no completion, such as Tesla, there is less chance to negotiate. Less chance to negotiate usually means you paid too much. Just ask all those people who bought from Tesla, and then watched as Musk lowered his prices. It was then they realized they paid too much, largely due to a lack of competition. Even if there are no unscrupulous middlemen, there are the sales staff, the delivery staff, the financing staff. Car dealers are certainly not a car buyer's friend. But Musk has shown Tesla is also not a car buyer's friend. (But he has fooled many people just as PT Barnum knew could be done.) The smart car buyer knows better than to trust anyone selling a vehicle. And that includes Musk selling his Teslas.

This video is so "right on target" and I have experienced all of these tricks personally. I remember very well buying a new 1988 Buick Skylark as a young man. All of that model that the dealer had included "Interior Shield, Rustproofing," etc., as an added package, to the tune of $1,400. I asked the salesman if they had any of that model without all those items because I really didn't care about any of those things and if I was going to spend $1,400 more for the car, I would have wanted an upgraded sound system and other technology I would have actually used and enjoyed. They guy said, "Well, no, but how much is all that worth to you?" I said, "If it's all actually on the vehicle, $100.” I told him that any more than that and I would need to go visit other Buick dealers to find what I wanted (That was near closing time after 3 or 4 hours there, and I WOULD HAVE walked.).They reduced the price $1,300. Do your RESEARCH on tips - like this video. If you can get a working knowledge of what to expect, it can actually be fun. Just be prepared to WALK AWAY and don't come across as if you know it all (you DON'T). Show some (sincere) humility and just be "kindly matter-of-fact." They will try to convince you that you are competing with many BUYERS for their one vehicle, but you should have the opposite mindset - that their one vehicle is competing with hundreds of VEHICLES that you are considering.

is it safer & cost effective to buy a car thru a broker? , these dealerships doesn’t spare anyone ( not even their own family )

so I just bought a 2024 rav 4 xle awd for 350 biweekly for 7 years. That includes 120k 7 year warranty and taxes as well. Im just wondering if I paid a reasonable price considering nothing is reasonably priced these days lol. Any thoughts?

6:41 this is unclear to me. You can pay off the loan and all the added interest, let's say for the three years term, or just the final, out the door price of the car itself? The next day, after a month? How does that work?

Yes you can pay off that car loan anytime with no penalty, usually. Need to check that before signing. Still, there is a fee for arranging that financing.
