I've been shooting handguns for over fifty years. I carry a revolver. Try it, you'll like it. Nothing wrong with a pistol, I simply prefer a revolver for carry.

@@qmcbbj Generally speaking, yes a revolver is a pistol. But its a type of pistol. Its called a revolver because it a type of handgun that feeds ammunition via the rotation of a cartridge-filled cylinder. A magazine fed semi automatic pistol, its called a pistol. So, its best to refer to the revolver as a revolver and not a pistol to not confuse the magazine fed pistol to the revolving cylinder pistol

a real benefit to the revolver in my opinion is if you happen to get a bad round instead of having to rack the slide to eject the bad round and chamber a new one you simply just squeeze the trigger again

That is one thing I haven't thought about, you can have a perfect gun amd do great work on your gun, but you can never be ready for a bad round. I will be getting an EC9s for now but I plan to and want my EDC to be a revolver. Im a very worrisome person so that assurance is nice, squeeze the trigger and its going to shoot.

Revolvers are STILL a great choice for civilian defense needs. The police and military no longer use them (at least in large numbers) due to the fact that they might need (especially with the military) high volumes of fire in a handgun. The odds of the average civillian needing large amounts of firepower in a defensive encounter is extremely low. Many statistics and studies have proven this.

Well said man. I hate it when people say "oh i like to carry with high capacity because 16 rounds is better than 7 .45 acp and etc." most likely when a criminal is been fired upon in a self defense situation, he would try to flee the scene

***** Biggest mistake I see made here on youtube and in the "gun" community in general is someone trying to justify what or how they carry to someone else, and add to that, that most who get into the arguments are 1 relitivly new to the whole gun carry thing 2 are mostly just basing what they defend off of insecurities brought on by lack of experience and or training and 3 just watching too many movies and developing this rambo aptitude that they think they are going to have to hold off a half dozen or so attackers, I personally find that all those big talkers that say they need 20 shots type crap are never carrying at all when they are asked on the street---Why because those guns are just too big bulky and uncomfortable to carry well, despite what those high capacity advocates want to say they are just reacting to a macho-rambo lack of true self confidence in their training/skills--they just don't see things clearly because of it--- let's face it (or better yet let them admit it) the cases where you may be faced with more than 1-2 or at the most 3 attackers (civilians that is) is very very minimal, even with all the crap that seems to happen nowadays, and the other thing that more than not holds true is that, even the most wannabe bad boy gang bangers turn into little pussies when one or 2 of their buddies get blown away, me personally, I know that if I'm carrying my little model 60 with 5 rounds in it that there is either gonna be 5 dead attackers (if in the event I ever get that unlucky--or more like if they get stupid enough to try me) or 5 attackers wounded bad enough to not want to fight anymore---why--- thousands of rounds put down range and training training training and more training than I thought I could ever stand--- and at least 2 times a month at the very minimum (more like 1or 2 times a week when I can) at the range for practice, and less time spent arguing with guys that have all those preconceived notions of Rambo grandeur

D5quared91 "the odds of the average civilian needing large amounts of firepower in a defensive encounter is extremely low". Ah yes, but there IS a chance that you will need it. Not all criminals flee when fired upon. Sometimes they shoot back. This philosophy would be great if in all situations, the criminal or attacker flee's when you shoot at them. Speaking from personal experience, many times the attacker will fight back. If that attacker has more than 6 rounds, you are screwed. It's all about leveling the playing field. There is no such thing as "over-doing" it when it comes to choosing a self defense option.
@davids5884
@davids5884 9 жыл бұрын
AmnScottNN Yes, there is always a chance you may need more firepower, and I certainly understand your reasoning, but if you hit your target in the right place, chances of it shooting back are extremely low. As for me, I would rather know I had five or six shots than to hope I had twenty.

Revolvers are extremely dependable weapons. Pull the trigger and the gun goes bang (for the most part). End of story. Most gun fights are between 6 to 10 feet, close combat. This isn't the movies.

They're especially dependable when used with rimfire ammunition. Where a semi auto 22 pistol would jam completely due to the rimfire ammo not working properly, the revolver just skips to the next cylinder with a trigger pull. Great for non-gun people and the elderly

Your right about one thing. Every revolver video I watch is filled with comments from people that get angry at just simply hearing revolver. If someone wants to carry one, what business is that of yours? Why do people care what someone else carries? I've carried both. I don't understand why people rag on carrying revolvers. Just carry what you feel the most comfortable with. If you just simply don't feel comfortable carrying a semi auto (doesn't fit the hand well, less training, just simple preference) then carry a revolver and vice versa. It's better to carry what you feel the most comfortable with than to never carry at all if you want to CC.

Get any debris in the cylinder and it will jam up tight. Where as the rail on an auto is usually covered the cylinder bar on a revolver is exposed. Anything that can jam an auto will jam a revolver faster. Police department had known this for ages which is why motorcycle cops were mandated to use full envelopment holsters across several States.
@brainplay8060
@brainplay8060 8 жыл бұрын
robby6511 Yeah so what you're saying is let me leave this wheel gun in a clean environment for 10 years where it will never get dirty and it will run. Sure, I agree with that statement. Except that also applies to auto. Springs don't go bad under pressure. They go bad from use (positive negative stress). You ignored my own statement where I'm talking about working guns, not range queens or sock stuffers. If you take it into any environment where it may become dirty or exposed to elements and you're looking at a potential failure. This was well documented throughout most of the 1900's when wheel guns dominated. Revolvers aren't an infallible object and in some cases will fail faster in certain conditions than autos.

My SP 101 groups well and I aim at the nose for the head shot. It works well in combat and it works well in self defense. The 101 conceals very well and practice make reloads quick. During 22 years as a cop, I carried the S&W Model 10 4-inch in uniform and the Model 36 Snub in plainclothes and off-duty. Never...NEVER...had a problem. These revolvers are reliable firearms; period. Conversely, I have inevitably experienced some type of problem with my autos, whether LCP, Browning 32, Beretta 25, Colt 1911... Fire enough rounds through a semi-auto pistol and you are likely to eventually experience some incident, e.g. jam, FTF, inadvertent mag release, FTE, weak round failing to put the gun back into battery... I do like the LCP as a summer carry due primarily to its size, but when it jammed on me several times at the range last month, I packed it up and shipped it back to Ruger for a look-see. In the meantime, I've stuck a Ruger SP-101 three-inch into my jeans, which makes me feel more confident, but is definitely problematic as a concealed carry.

I made 'top gun' with my S&W 586 at the time most in the acadamycarried the B92. I was hands down fastest, also. Capacity is not the issue.Most shots fired MISS THE TARGET. The spray and scream syndrome. So, when I tried ALL of the great and poular pistols, as reliable most were,it always came down to bullt placement. The PROBLEM w th revolver isrelaoding. Not capacity. The rev can become very ptoblematic if you'renot careful. Without writing a book here, watch for an empty falling backinto the cylinder UNDER the ejector star when reloading. Try the "Ayoob reload " tecniques.

Great video! I carry various arms according to whatever I happen to be doing. I typically used a revolver as a BUG. Over time, I noticed that my BUG was generally more concealable in common day to day clothing. So for me it was an organic transition to simply using what was a BUG into a primary EDC. I think you raised the most salient point and that is with respect to training. Get familiar with whatever platform you choose. Confidence will follow.

I really don't look at capacity for a ccw. From what I've always read the average number of rounds fired in a defensive situation is only 3 any way. plus my personal opinion is if I need more than a few rounds I need a rifle and not be anywhere near the situation. Also from what I've read usually attacks happen with 2 attackers so really 5 rounds is all you need for a ccw IMO. If someone wants to carry more please feel free to, I just feel the extra just add to the bulk making it heavier and harder to conceal.

Like I said five rounds, especially .357 and .44, is more than likely going to do the job, but it might not. I don't like ifs and maybes. TheOl1911 my carry experience closely parallels yours. I began CCW with a Colt Commander. At times, in summer, needed something a lot more concealable. Got a Taurus 85 with bobbed hammer and learned the revolver reload drill with speed strips and speedloaders. Found some great 38 spl ammo (Buffalo Bore) that allowed the 2" 38 Spl snubby to rival full-sized 9mm performance. As I practiced revolver drills, I soon realized just how trouble free and easy-to-carry the revolver really was. Plus I was amazed at just how precisely accurate the little Taurus was. My confidence in the little Taurus grew to the point I could reliably fire centered head shots at 25 yards. Found a pristine S&W 66-1 at a pawn shop for cheap and the Commander was soon retired! For me, the precision accuracy a revolver is capable of, and constant practice that allows me to use that accuracy in fast double-action shooting, overcame any doubt about revolver capability for self-defense. My confidence that my revolvers could precisely land a round exactly where I wanted it well beyond self-defense range is why I began choosing the Taurus or S&W over the Commander time and time again. Plus the round contours of the S&W 66 and speedloaders / speedstrips conceal SO much easier than the Commander with 2 spare mags. Much easier to just "grab-and-go" too!

I believe a semi-auto is an optimal choice, but I also believe that a revolver is a viable choice for self-defense. (Notice I didn't say "combat"; I said self-defense.) When it comes to something even remotely resembling self-defense, most internet denizens are only familiar with "tactical combat fighting" where it's basically paramilitary training for war or urban combat. The problem is that it's unrealistic for most civilians. if the aggressor is prepared and determined, there is nothing big enough that you can stick inside your waistband that's going to be perfectly adequate for the job. The best you can do is to escape, and making him take cover would be a tremendous help. Fortunately the vast majority of defense scenarios in America are not against prepared or determined attackers; rather it's against people who are out to rob or rape you. In that scenario, a handgun is probably going to be adequate. But as a civilian, your primary self-defense objective is to stop the threat or at least escape the situation alive; not hunt down and kill bad guys. And of all the real-world events that have taken place in America where a civilian had to draw his gun, the situation was resolved on average with about 3 shots.

First common sense video review and personal tutorial without sponsor bais. Thank you so very much for setting the record straight about the misinformation about revolvers being "obsolete", or less effective than a semi-automatic handgun. The biggest "false confidence" argument proponents of semi-automatic weapons are "capacity." That's their #1 justification for carrying a semi-automatic weapon versus carrying a revolver is simply bravado, rather than simplicity. The truth is this; semi-automatic weapons (no matter how well manufactured) have a much higher failure rate than revolvers by comparison. Additionally, semi-automatic weapons require constant "racking" the rail to make sure the bullet is jacketed in the chamber. Furthermore, a semi-automatic weapon has several moving parts versus just the cylinder of a revolver. As a result, requiring much more maintenance. Regardless, "let each one teach one." For those reasons, I really appreciate your thorough review.

What I like about the J-Frame is that it can easily be carried and fired from a pocket of a jacket. While small autos can also be easily carried is a pocket it would be bad to shoot from inside a pocket because the slide could get hung up.
