Because it isn't up to par with other Pixar movies story and base plot wise. Doesn't mean it's a bad movie, if it's produced by any studio other than Pixar, i bet it would be loved so much more.

My favourite thing about this movie is McQueen's growth arc. I feel like a lot of movies gloss over or rush a character's moral growth, getting it done in one big mistake, one inspiring conversation and one big redemptive move, or a few moments of such, and usually it's to be forgiven because of shortness of time (or sometimes it's just bad writing). But McQueen was a TOTAL ASSHAT yet his growth was believable, I think, because of the amount of effort and time (basically the whole movie) required for him to realise that there is more to the world than just himself and what he wants out of racing. He is made to literally pay back the damage he'd caused the town through community service, and when it wasn't good enough, he was made to do it again, to make amends for his actions. I also feel like there was no other character in the movie looking to 'save him from himself' like in a lot of movies, and there was no reason McQueen was looking to save himself from his selfish ways either because he had no personal incentive (unlike movies where the main protagonist directly benefits from their growth because it helps them achieve their main goal set out in the beginning). Instead, his growth is entirely directed by his response to the the things he observes, experiences, and learns about while stuck in Radiator Springs, a town he never wanted to be in in the first place. Mater just wanted to spend time with him for fun, they had a blast and McQueen learnt from the experience, even if he's still prejudiced (saying he likes Mater but not other rusty cars). The lesson is also not explicitly stated like a motivational speech, but observed - that you make friends by spending quality time with them. Sally is also rightfully slow to trust McQueen, even though she's too invested in seeing the best in him, not because she's trying to save him but because she, like all the other folk in the town, see him not as a celebrity racecar, but as a car like all of them (the idea that 'he's still human'). She wants to see if McQueen will keep his promise about the helicopter, and when it's clear he's not serious about it, she leaves the conversation disappointed. When they go on a drive together, McQueen learns from her love of the valley and the struggles of Radiator Springs just by listening, for once, to an experience different from his own, and he feels empathy for her sadness. Then McQueen EARNS their trust and loyalty fully through buying from their businesses and lighting up the town again because that's what's important to THEM. Not because anyone told him to, not because he directly benefits, but because he's learnt the value of Radiator Springs and the folk in it, and now he cares about something other than himself. Even then, Doc is suspicious of him and is the last to come around. So when McQueen gives up the racing title of first place to push the King over the line, it's all the much sweeter because you can feel all the experience of his time in Radiator Springs and all the effort into changing his ways behind this one action which shows he's now fundamentally a different person.

Cars is just as good now as it was 15 years ago when it released. I watched it recently and it was a reminder of why I loved it so much. The cars sound accurate, the humor is on point, and the story is amazing. Truly one of Pixar's best movies, and probably the number one reason so many people in their 20s and 30s now have become such gearheads. Also, the soundtrack is fantastic. It checks all the emotional boxes for me. My favorite song is Find Yourself. Paisley is a master of that particular type of ballad.

Also the importance of being humble, on the part where LM races Doc and being cocky that he can't powerslide on dirt at the first try, and LM thinks Doc Hudson is nothing more than a doctor and a judge that is a know-it-all about racing, only to find out Doc was once a Piston Cup champ. As well as the importance of knowing the worst thing about doing rush jobs, shown when LM has to work on the road he tore up the night he went into Radiator Springs, and he tried to rush the roadwork job and it went badly wrong that Doc told him to redo the road all over again (before LM tells Doc he's a race car and Doc challenges LM to a race).

This movie was released in theaters on my 9 year old birthday and I too was a NASCAR fan at that time (Still a fan of NASCAR, but more so as a part of my passion for all type of motorsports). I enjoyed it a lot and it certainly helped me understand the importance of humility in the world of motorsports as well as the important factor that there's more to racing than just winning. Lessons that to this day have been helping me on my own journey in the world of motorsports. Although I am just starting to get myself into karts these past couple of years, I'm certainly looking forward to seeing where my journey takes me. Sure I don't see myself racing in Formula 1 or the NASCAR Cup Series, but there's plenty of other series out there that I can see myself being successful with. My journey is young and I hope there's plenty of stories I can share along the way. Either way, I enjoy this film so much and I thank you Josh for sharing your enjoyment in a film we both enjoy.

I dont care what anyone says, this is one of the best animated movies ever. not only did it get me into cars and motorsports, an interest ive come to truly love, but it also helped me understand the value of kindness. McQueen started off as a somewhat unlikeable/rude character, but throughout his journey he discovered how important it is to take care of those around, and how they will take care of you in return. Damaged pasts and people (cars) who live as ghosts are the key to understanding compassion and its unfortunate inconsistency. This movie taught me to always pick the kind choice.

Cars kinda captured the whole spirit of racing into a cartoony package, which is the reason it's so rewarding to watch despite it being you know... Quite a bit unrealistic to say the _very least._ It's a perfect balance of both i'd say which i think Cars 3 also managed to do with the whole "passing the torch" being the final highlight of it which contrasted Hudson doing the same with Lightning. And as for Cars 2... We don't talk about Cars 2.

You barely scratched the surface with the famous people voice acting in the movie. It's stacked with celebrities and real life counterparts taking over the voice of their "car". This movie also explored RTX to add accurate reflections to the cars. Honestly, from a technological standpoint the movie was ahead of its time. The writing is also so clever, both funny and interesting for adults and kids alike, it's just the target audience is very narrow. You'd have to be a carguy as an adult to get the jokes and references, or an 11 year old boy who watches f1 with his grandpa on Sundays I guess.

Also the fact that this movie depicts a rookie not quite winning the title a year before Lewis Hamilton's rookie season is pretty uncanny

what this movie also predicted (except from 2020 british gp and rookie never winning a title in f1 except for the inaugural season): - Felipe Massa´s Drift Pass on Bruno Senna, Singapore 2010 (correct the year if I´m wrong) - a racing legend dying (I think u can somewhat compare Doc and Niki Lauda, who btw voiced the king in Cars german version) - Red Bulls flash racing pit crew not being the major success factor at Red Bull - an american company entering a racing series - year-long domination - Albon getting his revenge on the legend Lewis Hamilton by taking him out on his last race - a racing driver finding love after some time out of the sport - and much, much more

I live by Route 66 (New Mexico) and I love all the references they made to it in the flim. A lot of the buildings in Radiator Springs are based off of Landmarks along the highway. (To any foreigner my suggestion for the best way to experience the US would be to take a road trip along the old Route 66)

Cars and Cars 3 are genuinely decent films, that feel like they were made with heart and respect of the source material in NASCAR. Cars 2 doesn't exist, and there's nothing you can say that can convince me otherwise.

Honestly, I preferred Cars 3 over this one. It's way more relevant to how NASCAR is now. -New cars are coming in and the guys that dominated 10 years ago are reaching the end of their careers. -Lightning McQueen revels at an old, abandoned race track, symbolizing how dearly NASCAR fans want them to return to their roots -All of the cars that raced at this old track are starting to come to the end of their lives. These things combined with the casting of multiple other retired NASCAR drivers makes me appreciate it more in the era of NASCAR that we currently are in.

"Cars" *is* a great racing movie. Not in the way "LeMans" or "Grand Prix" is, but still. First of all, it's enjoyable no matter how old you are. Young, old, whatever. I mean, can you imagine watching "LeMans" with a hyperactive 4 year old? Yeah.... no. Second, Pixar went all out researching the movie, and then they actually put that to use in making it. I mean, dude---they even included marbles in the racing sequences. They persuaded Porsche to let their animators come and not only; take pictures of the latest 911, but also get measurements & similar, *before* the car was released rto the public. So while it is kid-friendly-goofy at times, it is also very accurate & realistic in many aspects, unlike some grown up racing movies. (Yes, Renny Harlin: Indycars still have to follow the laws of physics. Also, the casting. This was Paul Newman's last movie before he died, and I think it's perfect. Newman was far more a racer at heart than he was an actor. But there's tons of other car geek treat casting. (I'm working from the original US version.). The 2 announcers were Bob Costas (he's covered tons of sports here) and former driver-turned-sportscaster Darrell Waltrip. The two old sponsor cars were voiced by the hosts of a very long-running auto advice show, Tom & Ray Magliozzi, better known as Click & Crack. Cameos by Dale Jr., Mario Andretti & Michael Schumacher were already mentioned, and of course, "The King" was Richard Petty. But also, Mrs. "The Kng" was voiced by Linda Petty, Richard's wife. Mater was based on an actual infamous NASCAR fan, who also went/goes by "Mater". The list of car geek treats in this movie just goes on and on. I'm not saying "Cars" is the greatest racing movie ever--of course not. But it might just be the best racing movie that will entertain everyone, regardless of age or fondness for cars. And that's no mean feat.

Spot on. We really need more movies and videogames about car culture that target kids again. When I was growing up I was obsessed with Cars, Transformers, and the Hotwheels Acceleracers movies and they really had a huge impact on my interests and passions later on

Casually 2 years late but anyway. This movie holds a special spot in my heart cause not only did it get me into cars, the soundtracks for this movie were absolutely amazing and considering I watched it a couple years after it came out (I was a year old at the time of release) It's the first movie I can really remember. Real Gone and Life is a Highway put me on a nostalgia trip every time I hear those guitars

Absolutely beautiful! Cars is childhood for me. I thoroughly loved the movie and still enjoy watching it from time to time. I even remember how much I bloody loved the Cars game. 5/6 y old me would literally jump off the bus and run home, dragging my parents/grandma along, throwing my shoes away and sitting on the game for hours on end. Just love the whole franchise and one of the best movies ever
