Join Catholic poet Sally Read in the latest episode of Into the Truth as she unveils how God speaks to us today through poetry and symbolic language. Explore the profound meanings of poetry and symbolic language, where the Psalms, the Song of Songs, the Magnificat, and various Biblical texts can deepen our understanding of God.
Sally also delves into the rich heritage of Catholic saints who employed poetry to commune with God, drawing inspiration from spiritual giants like St Teresa of Avila, St Therese of Lisieux, and Pope St John Paul II, as well as from great literary writers such as Shakespeare and Dante.
Sharing the impact of poetry on her own life, Sally shares her powerful conversion story, a remarkable journey from animosity towards the Catholic Church to a profound conversion at the Vatican within a mere nine months. What pivotal moments and encounters with God transformed her perspective?

Besides his English epic poem 'The Ballad of the White Horse' (which I read or listen to every year - & copies of which were owned & read by many English soldiers in WWI), one of my favourite Chesterton poems is 'The Song of the Children' :

The world is ours till sunset, Holly and fire and snow; And the name of our dead brother Who loved us long ago. The grown folk mighty and cunning, They write his name in gold; But we can tell a little Of the million tales he told. He taught them laws and watchwords, To preach and struggle and pray; But he taught us deep in the hayfield The games that the angels play. Had he stayed here for ever, Their world would be wise as ours - And the king be cutting capers, And the priest be picking flowers. But the dark day came: they gathered: On their faces we could see They had taken and slain our brother, And hanged him on a tree.
