congrats on getting a good job! the point im trying to make is my preference for someone completely new to IT is to get the certs in cloud or cyber as they’re more in demand. That too wilk show they’re a serious hard working individual. I never claimed there are zero networking jobs. I’m simply saying there are better alternatives out there for more growth.

He’s not wrong my IT manager doesn’t see a point on unmanaged switches. So many networking jobs are obsolete due to it. I’m still getting my degree in networking; the degree route for this major is very in depth with security, ethical hacking, switching and routing, cloud especially AWS. So I’m not stressed about the future for networking; i predict the position will evolve into the cloud; someone has to still manage the cloud so that’s what you’ll be aka cloud engineer.

Even though is true lots of companies these day are moving to the cloud, they are mostly using public cloud services like aws or microsoft azure that trying to force you to stop investing in data center and shift all data to their cloud servers and only pay what you use. In business perspective it make sense, but remember in order to access the cloud , you still need to be connected to the internet or else you can’t access the cloud. AWS have already suffer some outages recently and that what you get relying on other vendor. You cant go from being a network engineer to a cloud engineer without understanding some basic knowledge of networking. And this is why IT certificates need to be constantly updated every few years because technology is always changing. If you don’t want to be replace, just learn some new skills to stay relevant for you job.
@UnixGuy

you make a lot of good points. Reminder than this video targets people who are completely new to the industry, and I want to offer a view that their time can be spent on cloud or cyber (where they will get to learn the basics of networking by the way) simply because there are more opportunities there. This doesn’t mean there is zero networking opportunities, just a fewer jobs for newbies / that’s all :)

It's not just the Internet outage part. Most Companies opt out for hybrid Infrastructure not full cloud. The reason is also Securityand privacy. A lot of ppl don't trust some one else hosting all their infrastructure and storage. CCNA is very much wanted and paid well for. I got a job as a Network Engineer with little networking knowledge and no cert because I was in Service Desk at the same company and worked hard, I got pretty lucky. In a hybrid business with on-prem equipment, knowing what switches and routers are and the OSI model was helpful, but just scratched the surface and not having a more complete knowledge was been a challange. Understanding basic or fundamental concepts that CCNA introduces has also helped when its come to learning for and understanding the cloud as we migrate across. Maybe people dont need to take the exam if they can get a job that isnt looking for a cert, but I would still recomend people study the CCNA content. The knowledge will be beneficial.

I finally got a job after few months of job search but one thing I can say is if you’re in Canada and a beginner or just in help desk, CCNA is still the best cert to move on. I’ve seen it the most on job postings, like more than any other cert including Network+ , Security+ etc. Most of the companies are still sticking with on prem infrastructure. But it’s also true that you can see AWS and Azure requirements alot as well. It completely depends on location and experience. If you already have few years of experience, then no need to go for CCNA, instead you can learn cloud but as a newbie, it pays off well.

CCNA is not an entry level position. Those who have a CCNA and work in desktop support or any other entry level position are doing it wrong. Do not just study to pass the CNNA. You need to understand and learn it like your life depends on it. Do not go into an interview with the mentality that you know how to answer technical questions with technical definitions. Be different and learn how to tell stories when answering interview questions. Furthermore, seeking a cloud or cyber certification requires knowledge of network fundamentals and strong understanding of how routers, switches, and firewalls work. Also, look into the IT market to see what is in demand in your area or in a city you wish to work. Do not ask questions like "What would you recommend as a entry level for IT?". Look what's in demand and shoot high. Do not settle for an entry level position.
@UnixGuy

good points, however if you watched my video, I recommended leanring networking fundamnetals online without the need to pay for a cisco cert. I concur on “skipping” net+ My first cert was sec+ First “IT” related job I had was doing phone support for an Apple support contractor. Studied got my sec+ and then got on with a DoD contractor. I will say though - not having net+ knowledge made sec+ harder to study, and walking into more advanced roles, not having that knowledge has been a big knowledge gap. So I would study and review the material too. But just take the sec+ exam.

Hey mate, don’t stress! There so many paths to success and there is no one true path. 1) Not necessarily, if the job doesn’t need a CCNA then why would it make your chances less? unless the job is an entry level cisco related job (and there aren’t many of those around..). And why CCNA? why not do something more in demand like AWS/Azure or cyber security certs? 2) Depends on where you live. Do a quick job search and see which is more in demand? In my opinion software development is more in demand, traditional network engineering jobs are dying. 3) you can but I recommend that you do certifications as well. Find a path you’re interested in AND one that’s in demand. I recommend cloud and cyber security as they’re both in demand.

I always put more value in the knowledge than a piece of paper even nowadays. Unfortunately, people tend to adopt methods that are often irrational. In order to get a good shot at getting a job, you have either get lucky, pay for and pass a certification exam or pay for college and get a degree. Unfortunately, a lot of the knowledge is not that complex. When you have a computer in your house, you literally have practical learning tool and there are many resources online for theoretical knowledge. Reminds me of those certifications where you need job experience to get the certification in the first place. If you have x years of experience and have to prove it, then what is the certifcation for?

Who is managing cloud? It doesn’t make any sense. Not every org is 100% on cloud.

never said 100% are in cloud but the majority are and are going this way. I simply say your time as a newbie to the industry is better off spent elsewhere not on cisco

So let me ask you something. What do you need to run the cloud? Networks. Yea, network engineering might be more automated, but you still need people to maintain those automated systems. Network Engineering is never going to go away it's just changing.

mate have you watched the video or read any of the comments? Your comment has been repeated, and I answered it multiple times. It’s not a new idea, every beginner thought of it too. In the video Im saying there are more opportunities in cyber/cloud. LOL at thinking the way to learn basic networking/infra is CCNA. Using your logic, let’s all become electrician because the internet can’t run without electricity

In the US, there's 9500~ job openings for the CompTia N+ with 2.3K for entry level. CCNA has 17,700~ jobs with an entry level of 4.8K. Midlevel, CCNA has 8K~ jobs available. If I'm starting out, would the CCNA be worth it?
@UnixGuy
@UnixGuy 2 жыл бұрын
I think you’re looking at jobs that listed CCNA in the description, they usually ask for a whole heap of other things. Im not saying there is zero demand, all im saying is there are better options out there. If you really want to do CCNA then do it, it’s just one entry level certs

Wait so i wanna clarify, network engineer jobs are being replaced by cloud jobs?
@UnixGuy
@UnixGuy Жыл бұрын
Not exactly, technology evolved (and will continue to evolve) so we need *less* network engineers than before. Cloud introduction reduced the demand as well (as opposed to ‘replaced’). I recommend you watch this video for further explanation: CCNA is a waste of time - I explain why. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pp7Nqqafn510gNk
