LOL, I did Network+, Security+,Pentest+ and I’m now at CEH. And CEH is by far the best one. The book is great and the Labs are amazing. I don’t really like the multiple choice based Test, but after that you can take a practical exam. I repeat, it’s crasaaaazy how much I learned.
@UnixGuyСағат бұрын
Congrats on all your hard work! you’ve done a lot and you clearly a hard working individual, wishing you the best of luck! If you found CEH content educational, you’ll be amazed how much you’ll learn once you tackle practical training that I mentioned in the video Keep up the good work, im sure you’ll do well!

Unix, can you please make an updated video about getting into Digital Forensics, what degree path and certs to obtain along the way? We’ve discussed previously and I plan on obtaining a bachelors in Computer Forensics & Digital Investigations from Champlain College Online. Is that a good start?
@UnixGuyКүн бұрын
As I replied before - the current plan is still valid and my advice hasnt changed regarding the degree either (stick to being a generalist cyber professional first) dont pigeonhole yourself into forensics exclusively because its a small niche

Hello UnixGuy, Thank you for taking time out of your working day to make these cyber security roadmap videos. I’m going to put your job & interview advice into practice for getting work in cyber security. SOC &/or GRC, these two areas of cyber security are my focus for getting an entry level job. Best wishes from western Europe.

good luck with it all! Letsdefend is great for SOC and GRC Mastery is pretty much all you need for GRC: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eWesmJ6pd9WAfJY

Hoe long is the course? Seems like all videos are a few minutes long. Does it cover everything or is it an upsell to another course?
@UnixGuyКүн бұрын
your comment is not clear. What is ‘the course’ ? are you referring to GRC Mastery? if yes then there is no ‘upsells’ it is only one course. Yes it is not long intentionally, it’s straight to the point and drawn from actual experience, which is different than braindead courses where instructors (with no experience) read from spreadaheets they dont undestand. Not trying to be rude or anything, but I don't exactly seeing companies lining up to snatch any kind of cyber security applicants. When I see applications getting rejected within mere seconds of someone's submission, it tells me that company has no intention of hiring anyone, but puts out job postings anyway. In fact, There are many companies in Texas that have placed a "hiring freeze" completely with no indication of when that will be lifted. I'm not saying there aren't companies hiring, but what I AM saying is for the companies that ARE looking for cybersecurity applicants, they are doing an incredibly poor job of 1) letting everyone know where to apply to legitimate job posts and 2) actually get good applicants with potential. If anything, THOSE companies should be infuriated with the other companies putting out ghost or fake postings because it's ruining their reputation of hiring workers (especially when so many right now feel like companies do everything they can NOT to hire people).
@UnixGuyКүн бұрын
thanks for sharing your views, I agree with the sentiment that hiring should improve. However, I post daily success stories from individuals from all over the world (including Texas..) who managed to land their first cyber security job by following advice on my channel. Is it easy? No, but it never was. This is not a new thing by the way. But it is possible with hard work, and yes rejection is part of the process. I recommend watching this playlist if you’re interested in my approach: kzbin.info/aero/PLdI5VHN89i7X932iFp7-M30FM9J8QHqOk&si=vSygrVimJ4QM4uuJ Either way, I wish you the best of luck in your journey!

Hey Unixguy, my uni offers CEH, CND, CHFI, CISSP and CCNA lectures at a lower price than on their site together with physical lectures. As you said CEH is not recommended what about others? Should I do them? Regarding the uni I just completed and passed the foundation course and looking forward to the degree. Meanwhile I completed 7 courses of the Google cyber cert and doing the last one and also doing some beginner courses of TryHackMe. After finishing the google one what should I go for? What about AZ-900 which some of my friends are doing right now?
@UnixGuy2 күн бұрын
No don’t do the courses at your uni. A discounted low quality training is still a low quality training. Focus your efforts and don’t get distracted. Follow this plan to the end: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKuTg39qjdqYY6M

I’d like to share my journey of how I landed a job thanks to this video. After completing the Google Cybersecurity Certificate (which revealed so many fascinating aspects of the IT and cybersecurity field) I started applying for various entry-level cybersecurity positions. While I faced many rejections, I didn’t give up. Alongside my job applications, I continued studying and preparing for interviews. Eventually, I secured a position as an L1 SOC Analyst, and I’m excited to say that I’ll be starting in about a month. In the meantime, I’m taking advantage of this period to work through the TryHackMe SOC Path (the practical side of my learning) and prepare for the CompTIA Security+ exam (for which I received a 30% discount after completing the Google certificate). In my new role, I’ll have the opportunity to work with SIEM tools and gain valuable hands-on experience monitoring network traffic. My goal is to keep improving and advance to an L2 position, where I can take on more responsibilities-like resolving security incidents-and earn a higher salary. I’m incredibly grateful to Unixguy for the excellent guidance and the confidence boost this video provided during my job search. Thank you for helping me turn my dreams into reality!
