Why Charlotte you ask? Charlotte, North Carolina is a vibrant and exciting city that offers something for everyone. Located in the heart of the Carolinas, Charlotte is home to a diverse array of attractions, including beautiful lakes, major sports teams, and a thriving arts and culture scene.
One of the biggest draws to Charlotte is its proximity to Lake Norman and Lake Wylie. These beautiful lakes offer endless opportunities for outdoor recreation, including boating, fishing, swimming, and more. In addition, the city's mild climate means that residents can enjoy these lakes year-round.
In addition to its beautiful lakes, Charlotte is also home to a number of major sports teams. The city is known for its passion for NASCAR, with the Charlotte Motor Speedway attracting fans from all over the country. Charlotte is also home to the NFL's Carolina Panthers, the NBA's Charlotte Hornets, and the MLB's Charlotte Knights.
Beyond its sports teams, Charlotte is also a hub of arts and culture. The city's vibrant arts scene includes a number of galleries, theaters, and music venues, as well as the famous Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. The city also hosts a number of popular festivals and events throughout the year, including the Charlotte Pride Festival and the Charlotte Film Festival.

@@antoinettewynne8822 Belmont and Ft. Mill are the best all-round place. You get a lot of home for the money, easier and quicker access to downtown and the airport than other suburbs, very close to great recreational assets, and very convenient to other parts of the metro area via I-85/I-485/I-77. Good luck on your move here and welcome.

@@lifeinsession5632 I lived in Orlando at one time and loved it. It's a close call and I could go either way. But I prefer Charlotte's 4-season climate, people seem a little friendlier, and a little better Buying Power (cost of living vs. annual income) over Orlando's, so I personally pick Charlotte. Still, both are terrific metros to raise a family, IMO.

One of my favorite places I lived. Lived in Weddington for four years until fall of 2002, loved it. Only thing I didn't like was the traffic down their. I was there recently and saw Providence Blvd is now three lanes, a help. But I-485 never supported the traffic in that area even when it opened and nothing has been done.

All my family is around Charlotte and I'd love to move back but there are very, very, few affordable, walkable city areas. You have to have a car. The developers have turned Mecklenburg into a giant sprawl. Sad. Charlotte needs more mass transit and better distribution of neighborhood shopping (grocery stores, libraries, coffee shops, et) that are walkable. You should not have to have a car to live.
@philip37977
@philip37977 6 жыл бұрын
Charlene S Noto yes!!! Exactly what I have noticed. While Charlotte encompasses a large area, it's only downtown that has walk ability. I'd like to move here but wary cause don't know anywhere else that has town like feel outside of the city. I'd love to be downtown but way too expensive.

I have ranked metro areas, retirement areas, and small towns since There’s a lot irony in your statement. Please understand, I really am not trying to be mean or unkind. It’s just some don't seem to understand that you can't "have it all" (ie everything you just mentioned AND a low cost of living). Extensive rapid transit, forced widespread high density urbanization, and hyper regulation drives up costs of living astronomically. Just look at NYC, Boston, San Francisco, and any European city that so many pine over. Then residents will lament over the lack of affordable housing. Then taxes are raised to subsidize the housing that was made by the local government's own policies, which exacerbates the problem by making the area even LESS affordable because of a yet higher tax burden. Then these residents flee, go to an affordable area, yet vote for the same policies that created the same mess they just fled by raising the new area's cost of living and ruining the quality of life for that area's natives (then whine that the natives don't like "transplants"). All you have to do is look at Californian's migration into Portland, Seattle, and Denver. These 3 metros were affordable 10-15 years ago. Now most people are priced out of home ownership and homelessness (especially in Seattle) are at all-time highs. Once an area's Purchasing Power Index Score goes above 33% of the national average, it's economically and mathematically impossible for average annual income, real estate prices, and the area's local inflation rate to come into alignment to where the area is ever affordable again. That's the economics of this mess. Charlotte has the model that makes the most sense. If you want walkable areas with light rail, trollies, greenways, and bike/walking paths, there are areas for that. If you want more space and elbow room and have the convenience of a car, there are places for that. If you want more of a rural lifestyle, you have that; all of that in one metro area. You set aside protected green space, but not in a way that spikes widespread real estate costs. It creates CHOICES, not socially engineered mandates. This gives the INDIVIDUAL the choice they want and keeps the cost of living low. Charlotte's Purchasing Power is 8% better than the national average (an extraordinary good score for a metro of 2.5 million) and has a very high quality of life. Sprawl is also a very, VERY misused term among Urban Planners and misunderstood term by the average citizen. Sprawl happens in every; EVERY American metro area with over 1 million residents. All you have to do is take radius measurements going outward from the central city every 20 miles and record the population densities in those radius zones. The metros with the highest population densities have sprawl extending the farthest from the central city. The pattern is created because the average person or family has to move farther and farther out in order to afford a decent home. I've known several people who commute from the Allentown/Bethlehem, PA area to NYC each day for that very reason (1 hour 20 minutes one way). So those who say "we need to have fewer cars", "more walkable", "more trains", "more like Europe", etc. are commenting more out of emotion than fact. I've spoken to people I've interviewed who've complained about not being able to "afford" a car, yet choose to live in the most unaffordable cities in the nation. It makes no sense. The cost/benefit ratio just doesn't add up. Anyway, so sorry for rambling. This is a deep subject and one that means a lot of me. The only "fear" that really has some economic reality attached to it is the pipe dream than an area can have extensive walkability, extensive rapid transit, little to no car use, highly dense living, AND have a reasonable cost of living. This stuff isn't free, as too many Americans just don’t seem to understand. The answer is CHOICES. Anyway, thanks for your patience, lol.

Charlotte is called the Capital of the New South for a reason. This video didn’t feature why Charlotte is what it is; the vast amount of private wealth that built this city. Stemming from Queen Charlotte (the first to move into Buckingham Palace) bequeathing land to prominent members of society for the gold rush (Charlotte was the first gold rush in America), fast forward to the early 1900’s, the city began expanding outside of Uptown. Frederick Law Olmstead (designer of Central Park in New York City) was hired to design Myers Park, the wealthiest area in North Carolina. It’s neighbors, Eastover, Elizabeth and Dilworth were designed in a street pattern to mimic the arrondissements of Paris. Charlotte is the #3 banking capital of North America. So all of the wealthy bankers move to Charlotte, raise their families here, and send their children to private schools. 1/6 children in the metro area go to private school in Charlotte. It is an extremely elegant city.
