Why Chicken Little is the WORST Disney Movie

One thing that really bugs me (that I strangely never see anyone talk about) is the treatment of the bully character Foxy Loxy. Does she get a chance to learn her lesson and grow as a character? Nope, instead she gets BRAINWASHED. And the aliens even offer to un-brainwash her and the "good guys" shout not to do it. Then Runt even ends up with brainwashed Foxy Loxy in a romantic relationship. Like really, WTF?

I have to be honest, I think this movie is pretty dang bad. It’s too mean-spirited and the characters are not very well written. Buck Cluck is one of the worst fathers I've seen in a movie, and the pop culture references were thrown in for the sake of having pop culture references.

Agreed. I've seen some people jokingly put Buck on Disney Villain ranking videos, but he actually is the villain of that film. Foxy is just kind of mean and the aliens were just trying to find their kid. Buck practically abuses Chicken Little on an emotional level.

where Buck Cluck fails is that he's doing everything he can to get away from Chicken Little. Unlick Stoic, where we feel the love he has for Hiccup even during their big fight, even after he disowns Hiccup with that "what have I done" stumble after leaving, Buck Cluck gives off nothing but resentment, embarrassment, and regret over being associated with Chicken Little. Buck is trying as hard as he can to have nothing to do with his own son, and if this weren't a kids movie, i wouldn't put it past Buck to go out of his way to get rid of him. It's only when Chicken wins a baseball game, which we find out Buck was amazing at, that he gives his son any amount of basic respect. Buck IMMEDIATELY shoots down Chicken Little's idea not because it's a bad one (because it is), but because it could potentially make HIM look bad by comparison. Buck only cares about himself, and views his own son as a burden on his life. Chicken little isn't a son to him, he's a curse. a ball and chain. an object.

I remember as a kid I would watch the "girl Chicken Little" deleted scenes/storyboards in the bonus features, and I always felt like I could relate to that version of Chicken Little so much more, because I was a kid with a very overactive imagination who scared pretty easily, even if something really wasn't all that scary. I really loved the deleted scene where she hears growling outside her bedroom door and creepy footsteps, and jumps to the conclusion that it MUST be a hungry alien coming to eat her, but in reality it's just dad going down to the kitchen for a midnight snack. Just thinking about it cracks me up because it's totally something that _I_ would have done as a kid. I think if they went that route with the character, and made Buck A MUCH BETTER FATHER who was patient, loving, and willing to listen, it could have been a great story for kids who were like me, and show them the importance of not letting your imagination run away with you and make you afraid of everything.

I remember working on a pre-school show & one note we got was that the adults HAD to believe the kids because if we didn’t then the kids watching would think adults won’t listen to them, and kids in bad situations (abuse, etc) would never report. Which we obviously don’t want! Kids need to know that they can go to an adult (or two or three) for help. However, like you said, sometimes kids just make up stuff. Or they recount a show or TV show to the point it sounds like something that happened to them! Or they don’t realize how something seems like a huge deal but it’s actually a minor thing because they hadn’t experienced it yet. Like you said, adults have decades of wisdom that they can apply to the situation. It’s a hard thing to balance for sure. And I think this film probably suffered from the “kids must be believed no matter what” network/studio note

I totally agree. Disney's absolute worst. Say what you will about Wish, but at least it had a better story and wasn't mean spirited. Although, this movie isn't beyond saving. How would i fix it? Shorten it by about 72 minutes (thus having it my nine minutes long), have it be more faithful to its source material, cut out the alien stuff and baseball stuff altogehter, remove the pop culture references, and have it be hand-drawn. Wait a second! That version already exists! If someone wants to see a good Disney version of Chicken Little, watch the 1943 short. It's faithful to its source material and has a valuable lesson to teach: don't believe everything you hear.

The main problem I have with this movie is That This was a Direct response and sorta “Disney-fied” version of shrek. And It fumbled BAD. The reason being is they Tried to BE shrek..at-least with It’s humor. Chicken little tried Hard to copy the humor style of Shrek (The “breaking of story book tropes” and the 2000 references) but it didn’t flow into the world easily, as with shrek. with shrek, we KNOW it’s a fantasy world and it surrounds itself with various storybook Characters. It makes it easier to make fun or Joke about it since the world is already establish within itself that this is okay to not take it too literal. Not to mention, The Refrences Flow easily and are not SHOE-Horned in Rapidly like In CL. CL on the other hand…The world is modern but anthropomorphic. Some character jokes land (fish being my favorite) but they don’t DO anything with those said characters, not even progression. The major problem though is that it tries to take itself seriously in a world that doesn’t take itself seriously. Mostly with the moments with CL and his HORRENDOUS of a father who shows little progression. The conflict with these two characters suck- The father sucks. Not to mention, The animation Looks BAD BAD- It makes The Shrek Animation errors look Good. Anyway, CL was literally Disney response on riding the success of Shrek and Obviously it failed, going back to 2D the year later.

I hate this movie mostly because I care about fatherhood stories and this one suuuucks! It would be one thing if the dad struggles to connect with his son. But that's not the problem between the two. The problem is that he consistently throws his son under the bus the moment he becomes inconvenient. And the movie frames it as the son's fault for which he has to make up to make him proud. You know what would have been an appropriate reaction for the acorn incident? "Leave my son alone, you vultures! He is nine!" You don't have to blindly believe your kid, but you should take them serious and support them. And protect from a mob of bullies. Buck Cluck only cared about his embarrassment. Screw this guy!

When I first watch chicken little, I was kinda scared cause I don’t like everything else in this movie like the horrible animation, the story being very confusing, the jokes are just so unnecessary and outdated, and the characters being so unlikable, this movie is literally just a worst version of Shrek, thank god I grew up watching Shrek cause at least I wasn’t scared of it cause I love this movie like the animation is looks really good for it’s time, The story is perfect, the jokes still hold up to this day, and the characters at least are likable and there pretty funny, so yeah I agree with you big time

You pointed out so much about this movie, which I only ever disliked at an instinctive level, but could never put my finger on. In a lot of ways, that makes me feel sorry for you, in that you CAN see these obvious issues so clearly, which robs any enjoyment out of the films you watch with even a tenth of the issues in this one. Your ranking has never felt off to me, but I could never articulate why I agreed, and I'm sure that I subconsciously noticed the things you didn't mention too. May your future viewing bring much more joy than this brought disappointment.

I didn't think I would hear about Chicken Little again. For the most part, I didn't really like it much either. The whole thing about the town not believing Chicken Little the first time was fine. But, when they tried so desperately to make sure they could mock him again a 2nd time, I think that was the determining factor. Also, Chicken Little just not telling the truth to his dad always bugged the hell out of me. 😁 Edit: Actually, you know what. Easily the worst Disney movie for me is The Wild. That was straight up garbage.

OMG I remember seeing this movie when I was younger! Honestly, I do remember liking this movie as a kid! (Plus; having the PS2 game!!) Literally, I need to rewatch it sometime cuz; DANG this movie has aged poorly in my head. They really should've sticked more with the deleted scenes & concepts instead of what we got, because honestly those made things make a lot more sense!! (That, or SOME sort of rewrite/re-imagining).

Still a better story, more character development, and more originality than Wish. Wish had a much better *concept* , but its actual execution fell flat on its face for me. The plot, the forgettable characters, the songs. At least Chicken Little could have minor fixes here and there that would improve it. Wish would need fundamental changes. Do you know what's more annoying than Chicken Little's obligatory pop culture references? Wish's references to other movies being the best thing about it.

What? When I first saw Chicken Little I was laughing so hard that I almost peed my pants! Chicken Little is a pint sized hero who saved the day! Foxy Loxy is a jerk, and Abby Mallard and Runt of the Litter are good friends to Chicken Little. I love the mutton language scene in the movie and Mayor Turkey Lurkey (I think) was imitating Chicken Little’s muttering and mumbling “It’s a, you have to, dow dowah!” Which made my dad and I laugh a lot.

In my opinion, Chicken Little was okay. I rewatched it in September. The movie had two endings. The first one was the baseball scene where Chicken Little scored. That would've been a good ending. But no, the other ending focused on aliens in the second half. I also found out this year, Chicken Little was supposed to be a girl and that story looked better than the one we've got.

There are worse animated movies. Take for instance, "Where the Dead Go to Die", where it's not just mean-spirited; it is actively disturbing. And at least Buck Cluck doesn't force his son to star in nrop. It is one of those animated movies that, I hear many people see feels illegal. I'm talking, kinda like "A Serbian Film", where it was banned in multiple countries. There's also "Foodfight!", where it is also disturbing in not just its humor, but also its Nazi-esque iconography, and its animation looking half-finished. I would even say that there are worse Disney films out there. At least "Chicken Little" wasn't so bad that Disney took a page from David Zaslav, and pulled it from its streaming platform after its release (I'm talking about "Artemis Fowl", by the way)!

I HATED this movie as a kid. But it's now tied to one of my clearest memories from back in middle school (I'm in my early 30s now) where we had a substitute teacher in english class that just put on the movie for second period and I was thankful cause I was sleep deprived so I put my head down to nap instead. Well.. I fully fell asleep and when I woke up, whatever scene it was sounded familiar... then I realized the people around me were different.. I had to then keep my head down for the rest of THIRD period, fighting down a panic attack until the bell rang for lunch then I booked it out SO FAST. That SUCKED 😂 IDKY NO ONE WOKE ME. That sub didn't pay any attention to us lol I missed geography and was just glad they did phone calls when classes were missed.. we had no voicemail and I knew no one was home lol

I agree Brian about Chicken Little. It's not a film I enjoyed. There are films that I enjoy despite how bad they are: Krull, The Black Cauldron, Quest for Camelot. Chicken Little is just not one of them. And you can have the best of actors, writers, and filmmakers make the worst of films. The incredible acting of Harrison Ford, the brilliant mind of Steven Spielberg, and the beautiful music of John Williams could not save Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

I have seen every single movie in the Disney canon, most of them multiple times, and the only two that I just can't sit through are this and Meet The Robinsons. Even with relatively weak Disney movies like The Aristocats or The Three Caballeros, at least you have gorgeous animation to look at. These movies were hideous when they came out and have gotten worse with age. Then the writing in this one is so painfully bad that you can't connect with any character, and because Shrek was big you've got jokes every few seconds, every one of which falls flat. I pushed myself through around 30 minutes of this trash before giving up.

Your reasons seem understandable, Mr. Brian Hull. But I’ve grew up on this movie. Now being a young adult, I’m realizing the animation’s pretty bad and the message. But I still enjoy watching it… once in a while

I do enjoy the movie to some extent, I guess i liked aspects of it even as a kid who didnt really love the movie. It definitely has an unintentional mean spiritedness, and I agree with most of the criticisms even if I have a weird soft spot for the film

I think chicken little was cute too be I watch lt like 10 times as a kid it was good too me but I think they trying go with bullying saying that chicken little can do stuff I don’t know I just guessing

After reviewing 32 Disney and media content creator rankings and tier lists, I have found that Chicken Little has the worse rating among ALL such KZbin content creators. It only barely beat out Home on the Range.
