Why Chinese Car Brands are Invading the Philippines | History | PH Auto Industry

I made this video to help you make a better decision when buying Chinese cars by understanding their origins, history, and how they compare to American, European, and Japanese brands.
Filipinos automatically perceive Chinese car brands as being low-quality, unreliable, and having poor build quality, but over the years the auto manufacturing industry in China has progressed rapidly.
The question is, can we now trust Chinese car brands? Are they reliable? Will they last?
In this video, we answer a couple of questions:
➜ Which car brand in the Philippines is leading and winning?
➜ Which Chinese car brands are on the rise?
➜ What’s the history behind each Chinese car brand that is gaining popularity in the Philippines? (Geely, MG, Chery, Foton, Maxus, JAC, GAC, BAIC, Changan, Ssangyong, BYD)
➜ Are Chinese-made cars reliable?
➜ Can we trust Chinese brands and China-made cars?

It’s not the Chinese car manufacturers that I’m worried about, it’s the local dealership that is in question. I’m not sure if they are going to stay or not since the competition is cut throat, 1 or 2 of these Chinese car brands will eventually have to shutdown and there goes the aftersales service.

I agree with your statement however, Japan and Korea doesn’t have a reputation on creating below sub par product, not just cars, but different products as well. This might be the reason why Japanese and Koreans products deserve second chances. Its entirely diffrent with Chinese cars/items. They tend to break almost immediately after you buy it. In reality, most of the products/car were just made in China (similar thing to Iphone) but just because of the country’s reputation, it affected people’s mind on choosing what brand should be taking.
@harem_lord-FFM

@@kodoku2942 The Japanese were known for making cheap products up until the 80's, ever heard of the Plaza Accords? The Japanese were flooding the world with cheap microchips that the US was so threatened about the whole thing, that they decided to destroy the Japanese economy in the 80's. While the Koreans were known for being the cheap version of Japanese products until recently, the entire industry of Korea is copied from Japan, that is the truth, they positioned themselves as the cheap alternative to Japanese items. No country started out with high quality products right off the bat, that wouldn't make sense. Where China is now, was what Japan was in the 60's and 70's, what Korea was in the 80's to 90's. It's starting to change for China with more companies pushing out higher quality products like DJI and Huawei.

Quality is there, no doubt about it, after sales is the biggest concern currently. People have expressed their concerns with the after sales but from what I know, it is slowly getting better especially for the likes MG and Geely. Chery, on the other hand, is being praised because they don't have any problem with after sales. They have the best warranty in the country currently, no other brand comes close. That's why UAAGI is being praised because they are doing so well as Chery's local distributor. Chery's warranty services tho, crazy good.

those chinese branded cars are NOT invading the philippine market... they are basically filling in the VOID that is there because the philippines have diddly squat of of its own automotive brand. simply put, those chinese branded cars are way better than ZERO of which the philippines can make. chinese companies have R&D and factories of THEIR OWN that outputs cars sold in the global market. those cars are on the roads in the middle east countries which have strict safety standards. reversed engineered or not, those chinese guys were good enough to clone branded cars. tapos pinoys are happy na sa owner type jeeps, thats as far as the pinoy manufacturing can go. sad but true...

Not sure why this was in my feed but maybe because I was helping a friend solve the massive headache he's having with his brand new geely car. & I've also heard my manager who owned what apparently was a chinese manufactured MG SUV & her having problems with her casa... So are the chinese cars really that bad? It looks like they improved leaps & bounds from we first heard of a chinese sounding badge. But they're still nowhere near the quality & reliability of american or europen brands, nor even supplant the japanese dominance in the asian car market. They should try & get to where Hyundai is at right now but i bet it's gonna take another decade at the earliest. I would probably consider a chinese car if they're offering a 10 years or more warranty on everything.

Well I’m not sure we can assume that joint venture means that the companies involved share technology. When we see that there is a joint venture I think the thing to ask is what did each company stand to gain and possibly lose getting into bed with each other. Surely Ford, Mazda, Toyota etc don’t blindly go into joint ventures saying “great here take everything we spent billions developing for free to use for your own benefit.” I agree with you that we shouldn’t judge a car by the nation it comes from. Equally however we can’t assume that joint ventures mean that the Chinese company is using its partners tech.

Not sure why most Filipinos are hating on Chinese cars, in other countries for example, Geely has been upping their game and are doing good now. Sadly, close minded most of the pinoys, with their sheep and crab mentality (most of them who can't even afford their own brand new cars) Personally, I was against China cars too before, previosuly owning Jap-US cars. But after doing research and owning one. I could say I was wrong and have had no problems with my unit for more than a year now unlike my friends and relatives who have New Jap/US cars that break down within less than a year, have no available parts and under spec'd for a high price point. (Kasi nga it's cause of the naka sanayan mindset) Safe to say, I haven't regretted my decision, more-so other owners are happy with the Maintenance and after-sales support. The riding comfort and quality of Geely is just ways beyond from non-high end US/Jap cars(na pang grab legit) 🤣 Geely has slammed Japanese and US car manufacturers with their affordable cars with high specs comparable to the top specs of Jap-US-Euro cars. Which is good, because this will push the other manufacturers to give more to their customers for a lower cost since Saturated market na sa PH for Over priced under spec'd cars. The term: "tina-tae-han na kayo sa ulo" charging an exorbitant amount of money for a lata built "safe" car was what thew me off other brands where a lot of Jap companies cut corners for safety features and specs. But pinoys are still happy about it. 😅 People keep saying: problems sa pyesa-aftersales-re-sell value. Like man, it's the customers money, it's their call if they risk getting Chinese cars. So yeah. Also don't forget Honda admitted they're getting surpassed by Chinese cars and Toyota cheating on their Safety standard tests. Geely has a long way to go for proving the quality of their cars in the PH but they're on the right track. So Get one/Buy one and Own one before you bash and hate on Chinese cars.

Take a look at one of these events like: F1, 24 Hours of Le Mans, or World Rally Cross Championship. Do you know any chinese brands being even able to compete in atleast one of these? Aside from European/and american brands. Toyota did it, mitsubishi did it, nissan did it, suzuki did it, even hyundai/kia did it. These competition is a manufacturers competition for not only for racing but is also to test the performance, reliabity, and the capability of a manufacturer to produce those vehicles. Toyota may not have the best at all of them but has been among top contenders in all of them. I don't see a Geely there.
