It's still crazy to me that a guy would get stuck in the midcard regardless of crowd reaction just because the boss didn't like his face. batista is very humble, many guys liked working with him, people used to always prefer going to smackdown, when raw was ran by triple h, and then cena, thats why they always called smackdown land of opportunities, for example mr kennedy had an easy time working with guys like batista and undertaker, as soon as he works with cena and orton he gets fired, weird

@@ODBPSKW Two things can be true here. Christian may not have brought in the money of Cena or Batista, but those were their top two babyfaces at the time. Christian was a heel and consistently connecting with the crowd in some way in 2005. WWE dropped the ball by not giving him a chance.

Batista apparently got backstage heat in 2005 where he was dissing the Smackdown roster, or rather, people that got a certain push in WWE that didn't deserve it because of laziness, but specifically name dropped Christian out of the whole WWE roster as strongly underutilized, with so much fan support, awesome work ethic, great attitude, stays in shape, and has a great mind for the business while not getting his opportunities. I remember that from Batista's Wikipedia page back than where you can still find it around 2008-2013 where he was interviewed twice by The Sun.

@khesipresents1885 They literally could have pushed both. If I recall correctly, Christian and Edge both had a push in 2005. Edge winning the Money in the bank and Christian facing Cena and Jericho for the title at a PPV. WWE though, dropped the ball with Christian by not only halting that push, but adding Jericho to his title match with Cena. In the end, it seems like they decided to push Edge at the expense of Christian, in the sense that they felt like it was one or the other, when they literally could of have turned both into stars.

@@khesipresents1885 Yeah it has literally always been this way. I will never forgive Vince McMahon for the fact that this man never won the WWE Championship. He never won a Royal Rumble, King of the Ring or even a Money in the Bank despite being in many of those matches where he obviously was the one holding the match together. Christian deserved a huge push before TNA but Vince pushed him so low down the card that he had to leave. He then proved himself with an iconic TNA run yet when he returned Vince locked him up in ECW where he still managed to almost singlehandedly make that show worth watching. One of the most underrated wrestlers ever and one of the best wrestlers ever! The fact that he's still one of the very best in the world both in the ring and on the mic tells you all you need to know about this legend. I really hope he gets a run at the very top in AEW. He deserves to be remembered in the best way possible for all that he gave to wrestling and how he always made sure to make other wrestlers look better than ever throughout his career. Christian Cage deserves for his name to forever be cemented on the list of AEW World Champions!

This isn't meant to be a knock on Edge, but what I don't understand about WWE at the time is that Edge was given multiple chances even when he had setbacks like his 2003 injury. Having that confidence in him paid off. Christian never got a chance for some reason. And I remember the 2005 Captain Charisma run pretty well. He was definitely catching on with the crowds and was consistently entertaining. This was despite the fact that Cena was consistently beating him and Jericho up. The same thing kind of happened with the Hardys. It felt like Matt deserved to break through the midcard, but only Jeff was ever given a real opportunity to do so. It's almost like the execs at the time just picked one half of a tag team and decided "Yep, he's the guy. Screw that other guy, though" lol

One thing I like to point out is that Christian brings up something that is forgotten and/or possibly revised by people claiming Cena was the face of the company from 05-13/14. They forgot leading to his babyface turn and until the start of 2006 - Batista was the company's biggest babyface. It's similar to how people say SCSA was the face of AE, which is overall true, but The Rock was the company's biggest star in 2000, and arguably past that all the way to 2002.

At that time he was tearing it up being a mean guy. It’s a damn shame that never translated to the WWE.

Vince dropped the ball with CC in 2005 and he knows it. He was so over esp during the promos he had with Cena. But TNA welcomed him with open arms. I remember watching TNA when in grade 10 at the time and the way he was being presented was a true superstar unlike WWE where he was upper mid card at best. Only wish he stayed in TNA longer.

@tombardsley3081 8 ай бұрын
@@aksharpatel2803 no it wasn't. It made Christian look like he couldn't win on his own on his best day since he needed Edge's help with the original title win. He had great chemistry with Orton and the matches were good but Christian didn't really get elevated out of that feud when the opportunity was there. They either should have had him retain then turn heel later and use cheap shots to keep the title after that, like the spitting in Orton's face like in real life or have him turn heel straight after winning the title at extreme rules by "attacking edge" like someone fantasy booked a few years ago and Christian at the end of the feud at summerslam turn back face and come out of it as a fighting champion and being able to stand on his own 2 feet and out of Edge's shadow.

As much as I want to blame Vince for all the misses I won’t. With so many that come through WWE you are bound to miss some that truly have it. I think Christian does and has shown it elsewhere. It’s no different than any other job. Some of the best workers won’t get the recognition until they leave. But just as we hold all the misses against Vince and whoever…..let’s also give credit for all the makes. Cause there’s a ton of em. More than misses if you ask me.

Christian in 2005 was more over than Edge and will always stand by this. Vince's pride couldn't stand that, which is why he wouldn't capitalise on it. Granted the messing about with Lita actually worked in Edge's favour in terms of becoming an all time heel, but Christian should have been a main eventer that year too. I love Edge to bits, but the fact Vince always saw Christian as no more than Edge's sidekick will forever be an absolute joke.
