This type of misemployment was exactly why the US created the Special Operations Command, which is of equal standing to any regional command. Special operators can send assets to help commanders when they need it, but since they answer to a top brass of their own, they come to your AOR as equals, and cannot be bullied into missions inappropriate for their skillset. This was the result of the US's operation in Grenada, in which Special Operations Units kept being treated like Light Infantry and taking a disproportionately high number of casualties compared to the conventional forces they were supporting.

Real special forces can handle large scale battles better than regular forces. So your statement doesn’t make sense. No I am not talking out of my as. I have a combat deployment with the second infantry division of the US Army. Also the term for those in specialized combat units is special operators or special operations known better as by civilians as spec ops. Special forces or the Green Beret is a specific group. Not a general term. For example. The US Army Rangers are special operations, however they are not special forces. The Navy Seals are special operations, but not US Army special forces. The reason for all of the different groups in the US special operations is due to having those who the best of the best at a specific task in extreme combat scenarios. There are times where calling upon the Navy Seals would be a bad idea. Not because they can’t handle a situation, however because another group would simply perform it much better. Yet even with this being said. Every member of the special operations community can generally perform much better in a regular combat capacity. The only reason why the commandos fails is just a lack of knowledge from the writers. However, if you want an in universe answer. Then I would say that if I wrote the reason as to why then it would be that the commandos were designed so extremely genetically to adapt to nothing but small team operations that they were almost incapable of adapting to the large scale invasion tactics. Otherwise none of that makes any sense.

They could’ve easily adapted the training program for the commandos to work with the infantry after the first battle learning from the mistakes & realizing their weaknesses yet they didn’t which is why the GAR was incompetent which is honestly palps fault but he was playing chest on both fields against himself so of course he cared less if there was more casualties means more confusion & politicking to prolong the end of the war which was designed to groom Anakin in large grand scheme of things instead of simply killing him.

@wolftal11783 жыл бұрын
The commandos were specialised troops which couldn’t fit in an ordinary open battle situation, at least not on an open plane, you could perhaps order them to circle the enemy and to sabotage behind the lines or maybe even support covering fire on mountainous regions. But they couldn’t fit into every single situation, it would be like trying to use a specialised medical scalpel in a sword fight, the medical scalpel would be brilliant at what it does in operations and delicate jobs, but it would be useless in a role of a machete. Whereas a arc trooper I suppose would come under the profile of maybe a very large Swiss Army knife, capable of adapting to multiple situations and scenarios.

Geestly is pointing out something that happens quite a lot in real wars. For example, during the battle of Mosul, the Iraqi army heavily relied on the elite "Golden Divison" and SWAT teams to spearhead the invasion, however, both suffered heavy losses because they were not meant for sustained frontline combat. The commander in charge of the SWAT forces actually had a mental breakdown because he acknowledged his men were utilized correctly and the cost was his men's lives.

The idea that special forces are supersoldiers is greatly overstated in media. The more I know - the more I grow to despise the Jedi. Or anyone in the Republic who thought it was a good idea to let space wizards/monks take a command of a military.
@ikrIkarus3 жыл бұрын
The Jedi were probably one of the most combat experienced bodies of the republic. They had no army prior and hence no officers, maybe from some security forces, but they had little experience. Jedi were at least send out to planets in unrest and whatever, though they rarely intervened directly. They couldn't let the Clones command themselves obviously and senators would make even worse commanders for the most part. So the last option would be to recruit from planetary miliaries, what they probably did with admirals, but their loyality to the republic could be questionable, so they put the Jedi above them to keep them in check. It's pretty much the best they had.
@zachseabass74143 жыл бұрын
@@ikrIkarus Figures. But still the Jedi had some obsolete combat MO because of the fact they were used to their traditional tactics from the past. Far as I know they were not trained to fight those kinds of wars like CW. It is same situation when in 20 century humankind had to shift from positional warfare to guerilla tactics as the newer conflicts were unsimilar to older ones. But who in their sane mind will give a command to a fresh Jedi padawan when the unit has a capable clone commander? I mean that case when Ahsoka got her squadron killed in her beginning days. And this particular event with Mace completely unfamiliar with how commando operate only boils the annoyance with the order.
@takumiyamamiya88773 жыл бұрын
Assuming canonicity of the Old Republic, the Jedi used to be a military force. Then the Ruusan reformations happened, and the jedi were forced to demilitarise - give up their armour, their militaristic ranks (jedi lord, etc), change their recruitment criteria, amongst other things. They became peacekeepers. By the outbreak of the Clone Wars, the republic had been at peace for so long that they just didn't have a proper military (in both personnell and equipment) and the jedi were probably one of the few groups the republic can ask to lead their troops due to their militaristic past (never mind that the ruusan reformations declawed them) and their current experience as peacekeepers with weapons.

You know that was basically Poppa Palpatine's plan right? Inept leadership on both sides to extend the war and weaken the galaxy especially the jedi who died in droves in battle by the end of the war. Then when republic and cis civilians hated the jedi for their terrible leadership of the clones and their "imma take charge" attitude when the war started, it was fairly easy for people to believe that the jedi committed treason and their deaths were legally justified. Propaganda is a hell of a drug.

In all honesty, they shouldn't have been called "Commandos" because that's not what they were. Commandos are units of soldiers that carry out OVERT operations and raids, not COVERT. Because of this, I can understand why Windu sent them alongside the main force due to the misleading name. Or had the Commandos been trained to be like the Super Soldiers of the Republic rather than the Covert Operators then things could have played out VERY differently. Also, if they changed the name of the Commandos to Operators, then things could have gone better because the name Operator would hint that they are not meant for open warfare.

So the only thing I can't see is them not being able to adapt at all to working in larger groups. There's plenty of instances where that would eventually happen. They may not specifically train for that, but I garuntee they'd adapt to it. Another thing is while they weren't trained for open battlefield fighting, they're weaponry wasn't either. Other than the snipers, they're weaponry wasn't designed to take out enemies at long range, and the anti armor could take out clusters of enemies, but that range wouldn't have made it practical.

Is there a video of how effective jedi were in combat or open battle fields? I struggle to see how jedi were effective in open combat with just a lightsaber. They clearly lack range attack when almost everyone else has a blaster. In the animated star wars series. You see top tier jedi reflecting lasers and maybe they close the distance on a ship or a cave.
@pgames23033 жыл бұрын
Another thing to consider is the statistics of the matter. In a small sample size, there will always be heavier casualties. The more units, or the larger sample size, the closer you get to the actual rates. The reason we saw a statistical difference in rates of death is because of that larger sample size the norms had. If you had say 100k commandos, you would get probably lower rates of death than 100k norms.

Exactly my take. I get that commandos excel behind enemy lines. That's perfectly fine. But they suddenly become worthless if caught in a regular engagement? Sorry, but that seems frankly stupid on the part of the training. Better to train your forces so that any soldier, even a commando, can be absorbed like a drop of water into the whole at any given time. You then train Commandos to do more. It's probably why, as I understand it (I'm open to being wrong here), modern Rangers, SEALs, and other special forces are almost always pulled from active duty soldiers. You don't go to the recruiter and go straight into special forces training. You gotta be trained as a rank and file soldier first, prove yourself there, then apply or get tapped for it.
@danielchavez82643 жыл бұрын
You’re not wrong, people are riflemen. Doesn’t mean you know tactics though. Also commandos would be trained considerably differently than your average infantryman.
