So many great games you'll never find on any other system on PS1. Cool to see stuff like King's Field variants. Love that game, too. That's what I had pre-Skyrim.

I used to collect for PS1 in the early 2000s when none cared. I had 100 games at one point before all the prices shot up. I moved a few times since then so now I threw 370 PS1 games on my RetroPie 🙂

One really cool thing I love about Playstation collecting is finding games that you can play the soundtrack for in a CD player. Companies seemed to stop doing it around 98, but it was always neat when they had the music on there.

I love collecting for PS1 - You're right, most late 20 somethings like myself grew up with it as their first console (Technically mine was Sega Genesis) but the first console I bought my own games for a played the most was PS1. I still get excited when I find one that ive always wanted and the jewel cases etc make me happy and nostalgic. Speaking of demo disc's I have both Pizza hut demo disc's that I am proud I still have. Thanks for the video!

John, thank you sooo much for this video. Floating Runner was a game I had when I first got my PS1 around 1997 because it was super cheap and I was a broke teen. At some point it got traded in when I was trying to get something new. But I wanted to get it again but couldn't remember the name after all these years. I really had no way to find out because I could only remember that it was a platformer and nothing else to go by. Thanks again!

Great video man. I love the PS1, the sheer diversity of the library is incredible. From the platformers, to the fighters, to the RPGS, to the SHMUPS; just some of the greatest games ever were on this system. And there are so many different ways to collect for it as you alluded to as there are various case variants such as with the original Tekken that has the long box, the jewel case greatest hits version and the jewel case non--greatest hits version which is very hard to find. My favorite game on the system is Strider 2, I love the original and the sequel is amazing, great action platformer.

I had to sell my collection at some point because of money problems (which I wish I didn't do lol) but I'm now back into collecting and I still love to collect disc based games! Some of my favorite games: Apocalypse, Medievil, Vanguard Bandits... but I could go on and on naming titles for PS1! Great video and keep up the good work!

great vid John, I'll never forget getting my Ps1 in the mid 90s , the excitement, the graphics at the time blew me away and the games were so much fun. the games i got with the system were Rally cross and i loved that game, and Tekken 2. Now i just like collecting games that i used to own or that I will actually enjoy playing. Just can't afford to go and start collecting a set or subset at this time, but even the prices for the ps1 games are going up. There are a lot of budget titles still and thats cool, but I'm only about collecting what i'll actually play. love the vid and the new look! can't wait for more vids!

Thank you for being a collector that appreciates greatest hits editions. Many collectors shy away from these, but it is a much cheaper way to get access to the same game. I like collecting for one of the reasons that you mentioned, which is PS3 backwards compatibility. I was actually able to put in a PS1 game in my PS3, and play it remotely using the PSP. I can't do that now due to PSP's no longer working on my wi-fi, but it was such a cool thing at the time.

Hey John, great to see you making videos on a regular basis again! I like collecting PlayStation because it represents my Renaissance of sorts back into video gaming. I guess you can say that I got kind of burned out during the 16-bit era, so I just stepped away for some years. I still remember the day I walked into an Incredible Universe, and saw a Saturn and PlayStation side-by-side, both playing Tomb Raider. The game looked way better on the PlayStation, and that sealed the deal for me. Since then I've collected a tidy little collection of 1300 games and growing, all from the 5th, 6th, 7th, and now 8th generation. My favorite games are all the arcade compilations and remakes. I'd say that Robotron-X is the best of all of those remakes. Thanks for the collecting tips, I'll keep that in mind as I continue to hunt for PlayStation games.

Hi, John. New subscriber and I love your channel. I am slowly going through your videos. I agree with you completely about the Playstation. For me, there are two systems that are the most important - SNES and PS1. The SNES was everything I wanted the NES to be and the PS1 was everything I wanted video games to be. Some of my favorite genres to collect are hack and slash and RPGs. I went ahead and purchased Dark Stone since I love Diablo-like games. I was so into collecting PS1 when it first came out, I preordered Suikoden 2 when no one else did and that is one of my favorite games to play. I play it every year. Keep making great vids! I love collecting for the PlayStation because it was the first console that I truly got into after I moved out on my own in the 90s. I did have a SNES and a Genesis, and I love those consoles a lot, but the PlayStation was the one that carried me through the beginning of my 20s. I love the 90s and the PlayStation is such a big part of that. I go back and forth on whether I want to try to collect the entire US library for it or not. Even if I never get them all, it will be a fun ride.

This is my biggest collection so far. Had a lot of fun with the kids back in the day. NES I sold all 130 game and got the PS1 and the kids did get mad at me for selling all the games and just got about 40 games for the PS1 at the time. Finding games at sales is a lot of fun. Playing and watching the Adult kids play PS1 on the PS3 is fun with them talking about back in the day how we beat some of the games. Seeing all the games you have, makes me look like not so much of a big game collector. I only have 3000+ games. From 1974 Pong only system to PS4. YES have fun I know I am.

John That game Dark Stone, I bought that when it first came out and I laugh my ass off every time I play, if you go in the first town to the person holding the lute they play the epic theme-song with flutes drums and bass and yet the lute only has 1 string and he just kind of strums it back and forth. The playstation was really the first widespread console to play cd quality audio so they used every chance they could to put audio into the game. This game is very similar to diablo or baldurs gate but it is a C or D title for sure. You should do an episode on that game some time, it has some very funny odditites all over.

I love collecting for the Playstation since i grew up with the system. I have a few long box plastic case and cardboard ones for PS. Most games for the system can be had for a reasonable price these days thats a major plus to me. There was a time where i was paying tons of money for high end retro video games and vinyl records. Now i don't care to spend an arm and a leg for things i like to collect, just not worth it anymore to me. Some of my fav PS games: Resident Evil 1,2 & 3, Dino Crisis 1 & 2, Syphon Filter, Mortal Kombat 3, Wipeout XL, Driver 1 & 2, Gran Turismo 2, GTA 2, Castlevania Chronicles just to name a few. Another neat thing about PS manuals/ covers they usually had beautiful artwork on them.

I primarily collect for Nintendo and Playstation. I grew up on Nintendo, but the PSX became my favorite console and has remained my favorite console since, even over its successor the PS2. The biggest reason why I love the PSX is the RPGs. Ever since I originally played the first Final Fantasy, it's been my favorite genre. The PSX has more quantity of RPGs released, but it also had quality as well. Not just RPGs, but had a lot of great games like Nightmare Creatures, Warcraft Shadow of the Horned Rat/Dark Omen, Warcraft 2, Smackdown, etc. My favorite game of all time is a PSX game. I often tell people about how good Brigandine Legend of Forsena and the remake Brigandine Grand Edition(also on PSX.) Imo these are both perfect games.

While I played some NES and SNES when I grew up, it was always at my friends' homes. The PS2 was the console I could finally get for my own, and initially a majority of the games I got for it was PS1 games. The first one I got was Star Sweep, which my mom got for me thinking it was a Tetris game (The PAL version cover looks like a Tetris game), and in spite of the poor translation it was a blast to play. It disappeared during a move, along with a few other games :(, and I forgot the title, but found the title thanks to Radical Reggie, and managed to reacquire it fairly quickly.

I love the memory cards, going for a complete PS2 set right now and I will try for the PS1 afterwards. The gold PS1 card is pretty much impossible to find unfortunately. Also into collecting PAL imports. So many quirky and relatively unknown titles that were released there that weren't released here. IMO, by far the best console to collect for, it just has everything. Massive variety, plenty of peripherals, a ridiculously large library and of course the best console for RPG fans without a doubt.
@Mike-db4td9 жыл бұрын
The Immortal John Hancock! Yes the variety and the amount of gems which can be found in the PS1 library + the ability to play them on the PS3 effortlessly makes it very easy to jump in and enjoy. My favourite genre on the PS1...fighting games from Capcom. Street Fighter Alpha series, X-Men vs Street Fighter, etc even though the Saturn counterparts were often better there's just something special about the PS1 versions for reason.
