We want to wear prison bars year round during the regular home and away season. Would even take the concession that we wear a clash strip against Collingwood even at home. I would have much preferred a healthy rivalry between the two clubs which once we're close affiliates during the VFL, SANFL days. Port fans don't buy their home strip they buy the bars, and the reason port has had so many jumpers since entering the AFL is because they are all place holders for the prison bars. This issue may be dead for Eddie, but every Port supporter is waiting for the day when they can return to wearing the bars. This history and heritage of a club is not dictated by the club president it is created by the fans. Koch could tell Port fans the bars are over, the fans wouldn't accept it and there would be a new president in short order.

Well then you are not a true pies fan,if this doesn’t annoy you. Listen to what the man is saying and it will make sense. Any Collingwood supporter that doesn’t have an issue with port Wearing the PB jumper is not a real fan. Have a look at all the powers mechanise, scarfs hat, and flag. It has the magpie logo on. If they want the PB jumper have it wear it every game not an issue change the colour of it. Just like the magpies, hawks and Roos have stripes with different colours.

Like it or not Ed Port Adelaide will always have a link to the Magpie and the Black n White. The reason they have so many jumpers is they cant have the traditional jumper for Collingwoods sake. What diffence to Collingwood does it make allowing Port Adelaide to delve into its SA history and tradition when playing the Crows . In SA they will always be the Black N White Magpies . Nothing they wear will change that.

The reason the AFL chose the PAFC for the AFL was because of the tradition, supporter group and success they had already established. To say they are a new club and not the old PAFC SANFL club is ridiculous. If you disagree explain why they got the AFL licence then ?

And as an AFL club they are new and because they had to come under the power with new jerseys they are new..... They are a brand new football club. Every National Victorian Football League football club is a company. Company called port power did not merge will a company called port magpies they had a take over. So yes it is a brand new company. With a single premiership to its name. It is not very old. They lied to their own supporters and cheated their way into the National Victorian football league. Sooner thy remove their loser reserves the better the SANFL will be. They copied the black and white colours and magpie emblem off the Newcastle Football Club in the English first division. Collingwood were the first team to use black and white and be called the magpies not ort ferals. The then VFL asked Glenelg Tigers to join first, they told them no. Norwood, Sturt, Woodville and South were then all asked before Port ferals. Would Richmond accept Glenelg using black and gold and the tiger mascot? Port should be wearing a white jersey with a yellow streak down the back and be called the white feathers. Much more appropriate and accurate. When the takeover was first happening many businesses complained that Port had told them "the new club doesn't legally have to pay you anything as it will be legally a new business therefore owed you nothing". Most of Port's accounts were paid by the AFL, SANFL and the state government. Port supporters should more concerned where the money goes at the club because the AFL, state and federal governments keep giving them money. Something funny is going on at Port. Maybe time for a royal commission in to the whole affair. That would interesting.

As ed said, 3 signed documents stating that the power would lose the magpie and the prison bar guernsey, while Port Adelaide is the older club Collingwood is the older afl club so the jumper style, colours and mascot was already trademarked to Collingwood when Port joined, they're infringing on the copyright of a club, perhaps when Port Adelaide joined they should have fought for the right to wear them or tried to come to an agreement with Collingwood (like they did when Collingwood allows them to wear the guernsey for showdowns)

In 1960, en route from Melbourne via the original Ghan & Ayer's Rock/Ularu/AliceSprings and return, on a Uni Grad Student trip, we arrived back in Adelaide & on the Saturday went to the PrelimFinal between Port Adelaide & (I think) Glenelg. Huge crowd. Port Ad won in a canter. Wearing their trad Prison Bars. FAST FORWARD to the year before Port came into The AFL. Lunched with my ex Sydney CofE Vicar & Bro in Law, at Port Ad Hotel. Told the charming waitress that we'd heard about the rumours that they (PORT) were soon to join the AFL. Next thing, we blokes were ushered down into the inner sanctum, the Hotel Cellar ENTIRELY FULL of Port Photos of Teams from way way back ALL wearing THE PRISON BARS, & ALL PREMIERSHIP TEAMS. Now, that's what I call TRADITION! SO, for CHRIST's sake, let Port wear their traditional prison Bars! [thank you for reading.]

Seldom do I ever post or comment , but on this occasion. I feel compelled . Firstly I do not support any afl club , I don't have membership and really don't watch the game.I read and watch the news and keeping up to date and with out a doubt Collingwood receives the most and more media coverage than any club that exists even Australian sides so I understand Mr M 's copy right protection. However for the intercity games in a two club town , I don't get it , most clubs have a couple of guernsey's for home and away , thus why does Collingwood only appear to have one . There is a clear case of bias from the afl when Collingwood is concerned in every aspect even travel.Ive lived in the USA for a few years and their NFL , NHL and NBA to a degree have a fair and even competition with virtually equal,travel , no exemptions, and the playoffs are always at a neutral field.. If you want a true and fair competition even up the travel , make each team play each other twice , change the finals venues and the money will come . Worry about the competition not who's wearing what guernsey when, the followers don't really care they just want to see a great contest.

The argument is the season will be 34 rounds (1 round a week) without byes or finals being included if every team played each other twice, or the season gets shortened to 17 rounds (then add byes and finals), so the argument is playing each team twice makes the season too long, playing each team once makes it too short, plus I'm sure there would be problems with broadcasting contracts as well

PAFC ( 1870 )as they were formed well before Eddywood (1892 )

Collingwood took the colours from SA The JumperVin Doherty in 1935. Vin Doherty in 1935. The simple black-and-white striped guernsey has become a part of Collingwood since day one, and has become the most instantly recognisable club symbol of all. In the period when Collingwood was being formed, early in 1892, it became obvious that the club would need a different uniform from that of Britannia, the club which was the precursor to Collingwood. Britannia’s colours were blue and white with a scarlet sash and it was considered that those colours too closely resembled those of Footscray, a team that was already in the VFA. Williams Samuel Crawley was a supporter who had returned from a trip to South Australia, where he South Australia’s inter-colonial football team and was impressed with their black-and-white jumpers. As a local, he also knew that magpies were abundant in and around Victoria Park. Concessions not agreements. Between the SANFL shafting us and stealing the Crows moniker when they entered the state side into the AFL. Then Collingwood shafting us out of our strip and heritage because the more successful "magpie" side was entering the league. We don't want to be magpies, we want our strip. No, not just concessions. There are agreements in place, and as a lawyer, those agreements are pretty clear. Port only has the right to use in heritage rounds. No more heritage rounds, no more prison bars. Simple. Also not sure why port are trying to rely on this agreement when reality is that they’ve actually breached it by merchandising the prison bar jumper. As far as I’m concerned, port have absolutely no leg to stand on other than the classic argument from the castle “it’s just the vibe of the thing”

Port should be able to wear their historic jumper whenever it doesn't obviously clash (ie: Basically against every team that isn't Collingwood). Port Adelaide came along in 1870, Collingwood came along in 1892, so technically, the black and white prison bars was Port's idea and 22 years later, Collingwood stole the prison bars off Port and claimed it as their own, when it really technically isn't, so I dont know what Ed's problem is, but no ones telling him that Port has had the prison bars 22 years longer than them and that's its originally theirs and unlike Collingwood Pies, when the Port Pies get into grand finals, they actually WIN them

Port Adelaide FC is Port Adelaide FC, they are directly related to the SANFL team, many of their first year players cane from the Port SANFL team, the coach, the fans, everything is intrinsically connected. There is not one Port Adelaide FC, as there is one Port Power Est. 1996 and one PAFC Est. 1870. One is a football club that is highly successful, and the other is a franchise with very little success so they leach off the history and success of the football club. Victorian clubs have always remained the same clubs all throughout history so they can keep all the success they have, and so can the real PAFC. If a new Richmond franchise was created and started claiming the success and history of the football club, supporters would be fuming. Why do you idiots accept this with Port Power?

North Melbourne has identical guernseys - ok the kangaroos use blue instead of black, but the design is the same, and in the rain and mud look the same, and all those years of black and white TV they looked identical. The prison bars look nothing like the grand, broad Collingwood Stripes. They will never get confused playing each other (unlike a 'Roos-'Woods game in the really wet).

Port Magpies have the best Jumper in any code world wide. Port supporters love the jumper, it is Port Adelaide. To have this man tell us that Collingwood can join the AFL and proudly wear their Jumper but Port can not is wrong. I have a book based on The Williams family time at Port Adelaide written by Michelangelo Rucci with a number of photos depicting Port Adelaide players in different styled black and white guernseys in the 1940s and 1950s including one of their 1951 premiership side in an exact replica of the Collingwood guernsey. Ports' initial colours were Magenta and White. This whole Prison Bar outcry is just another Port Adelaide ploy to upset the status quo.

I'm really only concerned with the future and preservation of the SANFL, and my SANFL club (not Port Adelaide). However Port Adelaide wanted to join the AFL (which is the VFL in expanded form). In that competition, there is already a black and white team whose emblem is the Magpie. Port Adelaide's manifesto was always to leave the SANFL, so therefore they need to submit to Collingwood. Your tradition pre-1997 stays in the SANFL. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

No wrong. The club joined the AFL with the intention being they became a AFL entity . They kept the team in the SANFL at the request of the SANFL and were given ridiculous conditions such as the home base was Ethelton oval. The Magpies and all its tradition, supporters, history, the lot simply became a AFL club. The Power is the Magpies plain and simple. To say the tradition pre 97 stays in the SANFL when the club went up and forward into the AFL is pathetic. The entire reason the AFL chose the PAFC was because of that tradition and what it will bring in. No other club could offer what they could. So put the thumb back in the mouth and have a good sook.

Every club is allowed a history and heritage unless it comes from outside the VFL and treads on Collingwoods toes. Why is Collingwood so damn fragile about the prison bars Guernsey it doesn't affect the magpie brand at all. If anything Collingwood missed a golden opportunity with Port entering the AFL for a rivalry based around the strip. Matches between the club's could have been called "The Clash" with massive amounts of money to be made off the games and merchandise including one of clash strips for both Collingwood and Port. Eddie is however is small minded, and thinks the historically more successful club is interested in being VFL magpies, they aren't.

Facts in 1997 PASFC moved to the AFL, in 1997 the PAMFC formed to play in the SANFL, in 2010 I think PAFC and PAMFC merged we as members voted for that. because I was a member of both PAFC and PAMFC. They are one club, in 1997 they were two clubs. In 1996 PAFC were in the SANFL.

Eddie you need to get you facts straight or tell the whole story, port wanted to abandon the magpies in the sanfl because of one reason and that is because the sanfl didn’t want the slightest connection between the power and the magpies, the magpies were a completely new team with nothing other than name tied to port Adelaide and port said why would we run a club that had nothing to do with us? The wanted to keep the magpies but have a little connection between the clubs. Another point you are wrong about is the magpie isn’t Collingwood but it’s the afls, you don’t own it or the rights to it and the game doesn’t revolve around Eddie, it’s time the game does what is best for every club not just a selected few
