This is a really well made video. Ive noticed a lot of the same things you mentioned in the people I hang around and it just makes them sound like they can never be satisfied with X triple A game because Y triple A game did it better. We should just release more remasters every year since people seem to be unable to process new styles in games produced by different studios.

I watched CohhCarnage play CP 2077. I watched him play Fallout 4. I watched him play Witcher 3. I watched him play this game. I can say with absolute certainty that he is as thorough as he can possibly be. His CP 2077 gameplay at launch made me want to buy it because of what I saw. Same goes with Fallout 4 and Witcher 3. Not this game. I am not even invested in staying to watch to see how the story unfolds. I did for those other games. Even if you take out the bandwagoners and Bethesda haters, the actual critique of the game holds water. They are talking about the effort that Bethesda bothered to put into this game. Every aspect of the game is lacking, it's like they are not specializing in anything to make the game stand out other than it's shortfalls. To spell it out for people who don't get it, a child gets pampered when others do things for them, it's human nature. Modders have pampered Bethesda to an absurd degree and most of it came from the nostalgia of TES games. Fallout was okay but comparing the modding scene of Fallout to TES, it is not even close. Here's the issue you are missing: Games back then had limitations on what they could do due to tech limits and lack of funding, none of that should be present now with all that experience, profits from reselling Skyrim and most importantly, mod support. There are mods that are so popular, it's impossible for Bethesda to miss. UI design mods. Loot management mods. AI behaviour mods. They have been using goodwill to excuse their laziness. Everyone who has gone to school knows what it's like when someone half-asses their work. Might be you, might be someone you know. Bethesda is half-assing this game. 20+ years and this is their "Magnum-Opus"? Some people think ahead of what is currently happening and it's almost certain Bethesda will not give their 100% for the next TES game given their track record. Todd will lie to cover up flaws in their game, again. Why are there no vehicles? Angry Joe put it quite clearly why, though I would add that the physics would act up randomly and you will see it glitching into terrain, buildings and get stuck on things it should not be. You and I both know it will. It is a Bethesda game. But fine, let's not compare to what is humanly possible with a AAA studio. Not enough development time despite 20+ years in development? Not enough funding? Then scale down, stop lying(not to be confused with managing expectations) and SEEK HELP. FFS Bethesda. Modders love your games to spend their free time modding. Stop abusing their good will. But no, they tried to monetize the modding scene.

I disagree with this for one simple reason: unlike Starfield, Cyberpunk always had things that were not only good but AMAZING from day one: the story, the characters, the setting, are absolutely unforgettable. And now that the gameplay actually matches the narrative, people can finally see that Cyberpunk was really an amazing game all along. I don't see the same happening with Starfield: it will surely get better with time, but it doesn't matter how much mods people download in it, it will still remain a mediocre experience overall, because everything in it is forgettable, half-baked, or even straight up ripped from their other games. People compare the two games because Starfield had insane potential, one of the best and most popular settings in fiction, and yet Bethesda managed to completely screw it up. This is why people are mad.

So while I agree with pretty much everything you have said I do have one nitpick. I do think these smaller details can be important, even if they do not affect gameplay that much or at all. What I mean by this is for example the water splashing of the grenades or that windows of cars shatter in a more realistic way if shot those small details. They can certainly help to immerse you more into the game and games that have these smaller details usually get praised for it (as long as it doesn't affect the overall focus of the game itself) and for good reason. I think this is mostly just personal opinion on what you prefer. If you don't care about these small details that's fine but in 2023 I think these small details should be expected from AAA games.

This probably mostly comes down to the fact that almost all AAA titles these days release in a not so great and finished state and get polished over time. I played both games on launch and refunded Cyberpunk as soon as I tried the driving But I also expected more from CDPR Then I did From a Indie game studio, with at the time of launch had less then 50 employees if I remember correctly. Also Even without the 6 years of updates I didnt have to wait for a fucking loading screen to get into my ship then another to take off/land on a planet. Ok I get the fact about comparing a fixed cyberpunk to a brand new starfield. That isn't a fair comparison, but if we compare starfield to other games released this year I think that would be more acceptable because it is a "next gen" game. The main problem with this game (to me at least) is that it clams to be "next gen" when it does nothing revolutionary. It's a mid at best rpg, story, and open world game. Balder's gate 3 blows starfield out of the park in terms of rpg elements. If we want open world look at tears of the kingdom it is probably the best open world experience from this year. If you want story play atomic heart which has a really good story (imo). If you enjoy the game that's fine but I can't help but be disappointed with this game for how long it's been in the making

i'm also annoyed by the review grifters who just decide if a game is good or not based whether or not the plastering on a wall breaks if you shoot it. but i'm also someone who is inclined to agree that cyberpunk is just a fundamentally better game, and that's because it's core aspects are just better, melee, gunplay, story, characters and enviroment. i have put well over 100 hours into starfield and just over into cyberpunk and i'm gonna say i got tired of starfield by the 80th, but i'm down to do another run of cyberpunk and comparison of these 2 games is actually justified since they are competing in the same space for the same customers and not everybody has the budget to buy both, those people will want to know which game is better for the price, and for cyberpunk that price will probably include the phantom liberty expansion. also isn't in favor of starfield that cyberpunk often goes on sale on GOG, it's a three year old game that feels like a three year old game that goes on sale because it's a three year old game that is competing with a current year game that feels like a game from 2012 and charges full AAA price for itself.

Comparing water splashes is a bit weird, but why the fuck wouldn't you compare reactions of npcs? Those are game mechanics which are pretty important in open-world games and yes shooting right above guard and guard not reacting is immersion breaking. Comparison is good way to show, how mechanic are supposed to work.

I definitely think it's not exactly fair to compare Starfield to Cyberpunk given that one came out three years ago and the other came out a month ago, I don't think comparison is really as bad as you make it out to be. Comparison is a vital tool, and it can be really helpful when trying to articulate why you think one work doesn't succeed at something to point at another that you think does. For example, when looking at Cyberpunk and Starfield, I'd say that despite being far less focused on exploration as a core feature, the former succeeds at making you feel immersed in the world during exploration, where Starfield fails. Ok, why do I think that? Well, Cyberpunk exists in one, contiguous world. The only loading after loading in are on death, or for convenience features like fast travel. But if you don't want to see a loading screen while playing Cyberpunk, you won't, and it really helps with immersion, because you're not constantly being reminded that you're playing a video game. Starfield, on the other hand, is constantly ripping you out of the experience with load screens, everywhere you go, they're completely unavoidable, and can sometimes pile up to as much as 6 or 7 in a row. It completely broke the feeling of being within a world that is one of the core fantasies of a Bethesda game. Now, again, it's not one to one, Starfield's world is much larger than Cyberpunk's, and so it was likely easier for CDPR to create that seamless open world, but that can then lead into another discussion about whether Starfield's scale is actually good, or if it ultimately harms the experience by necessitating the use of all these load screens, among other issues I think it causes. And again, we can use comparison as a tool to help illustrate that discussion. I understand the knee-jerk hostility to people posting out of context clips to dunk on a game that's been out for only a few weeks, but all I would say is don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Comparison is a really important tool in critiquing art, and that's not changed by the fact that some dweebs on the internet are using it improperly.

Chronic internet addicts gotta realize they gotta think for themselves. I don't care about either games, I think they both aren't for me and I won't enjoy them if I ever decided to finish/buy them. I tried cyberpunk and didn't like it, and I don't like the gameplay loop of bethesda games personally. That doesn't mean I'm going on a crusade to destroy either of those communities and constantly complain that the game sucks! If you think the game is dogshit, just say it's dogshit, tell your audience why you think so, and leave it at that. You don't need to commit to a fucking crusade like damn. I agree with the basis of the video, comparing games just to say one is bad is exhausting and most of the time the complaints do not matter (like that week where ppl were mad you can't walk around a planet was stupid) Where I do disagree though is that it is fair to compare these games and point out the issues you have with one of them. Starfield may have a quantity > quality approach and focus a bit more on exploration but the game is worse for it. While Cyberpunk was buggy on launch, at its core it was great and if you were lucky enough to play on Next Gen or a high end PC at launch you would pretty much have got the intended experience. Sure, they refined the game over the last few years and now its better than ever but the core of it was still there. Starfield doesn't really have that and won't unless you install a 150 mods to get the best experience which is pretty bad to be honest

I think this is just a fact people love Cyberpunk more than Starfield in current state. That is all I guess. And this fact leads people to comparing these 2 games. So I think comparing is meaningless itself but it represents which game is more liked In Current state. Of course, Cyberpunk was released earlier and fixed by a tons of patches but if Starfield was actually good from at the begining, the situation could be different. In other words, if these 2 games was released at the same time,I can not tell which one gonna be loved. Maybe Starfield going to be better and better by patchs and Mods. Ehh I don't agree with this. Sure, not all games are the same and we shouldn't hold them to the same standards all the time. But this argument "oh just stfu and play the game" is not going to convince anybody you're right. People comparing Cyberpunk and Starfield specifically and being so brutal towards the latter is actually more than just internet deciding that "haha look starfield bad" because everybody has the same sentiment towards CP77 2 years ago before they patched up the game. Bethesda used to be the king of interactive and immersive first person action rpgs. That is pretty much all they do. So to see another studio one up them in such a big way is really putting into perspective how much Bethesda has stagnated and even regressed in some areas. As you yourself said, they prioritize quantity over quality now which is not what their core audience is expecting from them. They're still extremely successful because theyre Bethesda but people see that making a competently presented narrative that isn't reliant on talking to static mannequins with 3 facial expressions is possible in a big open world rpg and are expecting Bethesda to step up. Not to mention attention to detail. On the surface stuff like this isn't important and In a game like doom I truly wouldn't give a fuck if a grenade made a splash. But in a game like Starfield that is supposed to immerse you completely, little details like these can completely ruin the experience. And lastly lets not forget. Competition drives innovation. The reason we even got to a point with videogames we're at now is because people who made their own games saw what others were doing, got inspired, tried to improve it further and innovate, and pushed the medium forward. If every game existed in a vacuum we would all still be playing pong. So i'm all for comparing games to each other and expecting devs to step up their game as long as it's reasonable and doesn't involve any harassment ofcourse.

Yes cyberpunk was full of bugs at launch, there's no doubt there but graphics, voice, feel was next gen. Starfield has literally the same feel as fallout 4 which is last gen. Bethesda has been following the same mold for the last 10 years. I'm not saying the game isn't fun but it's FAR from the hope of THE next gen game everyone was hoping for. The actual comparison has nothing to do with the fact of if the game is fun or not but the fact that you could put the game on the Xbox one and the game would look like a proper fit. It wouldn't surprise me if they made a combo game Starfield/Fallout 4 lol You know in 2 years Bethesda is going to make an upgraded version of Starfield cause it's going to look sooo outdated and not amount of updates will fix that until then.
