Crows and Ravens are known for their high intellect and are considered to be among the smartest birds, probably even among the smartest animals in the whole world. So why would they chase away, go after and sometimes even attack bigger birds of prey, which certainly pose a real danger to the crows themselves. Let's find out!

The first time I saw this was in 2006, and I have seen it countless time since then. Two crows can escort a hawk out of their airspace no problem. I have seen this done by sparrows to both hawks and crows. The most intense example I have seen of this, was when I saw a single *HUMMINGBIRD* make a hawk land in a tree and stop hunting.

Hey, thanks for your comment. Yeah, these birds are actually crazy persistent. I would have loved to see the hummingbird go after the hawk. Have a great day!

Fascinating! I've always had a soft spot for crows. They are so clever and always exhibiting their smartness. I used to make air popcorn for the crows. They used to wait for me to come out with the popcorn. They keep coming back after 3 years!

@@loriwatkinson6425 I used to feed my wild crows plain spaghetti noodles .. they may not have been the healthiest treat but the crows would cram as many noodles into their beaks before flying up into the trees. Always fun to watch!

Yes I feed the crows and they are very protective of me. I’ve seen them chase a squirrel away from me on my walks and hawks threatening my chickens

We have chickens so there's at least one hawk in our neighborhood... We see crows chase away this hawk almost everyday. It's pretty interesting to see. Thanks for the video!

We had a pet blinded (detached retinas) adult crow as a family pet, for just over 10 years. She was extremely intelligent and was around 3 to 4 years old (black mouth interior) when I found her. She died in March 2015. Because of her, we tend to notice crows and their activities. We've been feeding a local crow family and can decipher many of their calls, such as: "Anyone around??" (Our pet crow used to sit on my arm and call out for other crows, when in the garden). "Come to me!!" (Our pet crow used this to summon her human servants). "I've found food!!" "Buzzard alarm!!" "Raven alarm!!" "Fox alarm!!" "I'm annoyed / angry!!" (Anyone who's had a pet crow will know this one). "I'm unhappy / miserable" (A low single groan sound. Our pet crow would do this occasionally, so we'd make a fuss of her). "I'm friendly" (Head down with beak in chest and uttering a dove like "COOOO" or "HOOOO" noise. Our pet crow would do this when introduced to new people and I've had a wild crow also do this to me, after I fed it). The hundreds of other calls, sounds, mutterings, etc. that wild crows use in conversations with other crows, are indecipherable to me, but they seem to form into well formatted groups.

Crows, jackdaws, ravens and magpies are reason why some raptors(red tailed hawk, sparrowhawk, Kestrel, plains and peregine falcon and small number of eagles) went to at least vunlearble class, they chase them off from their territories or take their, killing their chicks and more, i saw when hawk attacked my chickens, crows went crazy and landed and attacked hawk and he lets chicken

I actually was looking if you have a video on crows or not, well now you do. I really like the idea of including sources in the description as it becomes very convenient to learn more about the subject your videos cover. Awesome video as always, keep making them! I really like the way you end your videos.

also do you plan to cover language of chimpanzees? I really enjoyed your Language of Orcas, Elephants, Wolves and Lions, I learnt alot , especially about Elephants , from your videos. Your orca video was very well made too, I was actually looking up the DW documentary on Language of Orcas and found your video, and well instantly liked and subscribed :)

@@gurnihalsingh6252 Yes, chimpanzees and also other great apes are on the list for "language of...-videos. As well as some other social animals. I am glad you like those kind of videos. They are actually my favourites to make. Awesome that you found my orca video, through that documentary. I can also recommend "blackfish", another fascinating documentary. Take care and have a great day :)

We have ravens, crows and magpies here. When the "mob alarm" goes out, all three species may respond. And the corvid versus gulls battles over food are epic. Gulls are big, and have large flocks, but the corvids have organized gangs.

I feed "Cravens", what I call crows and ravens, in my backyard. I have witnessed 21 events of mobbing, and have seen the resident ravens even mob a visiting massive raven, I call the big ones tanks. I saw a juvenile bald eagle coming towards the property, and said, "that is not going to be accepted", within 10 seconds a resident raven flew past me to intercept the bigger boi. When mad these ravens would grunt with each down thrust of their wings. a little, hhnngg, hhnngg
