So much truth to this. My aunt told me after her father’s funeral her husband smacked her for the first time. He knocked her down and told her he had been waiting to do that for years and knew her old man would kill him if he did. Now that he was dead things were going to go the way he wanted. He then kicked her and told her to make him a sandwich. He should never have sent her to the kitchen. She came back with a cast iron skillet and laid him out then filed for a divorce the next day. Because she had a strong dad she was a strong woman.

This is absolute truth. When my oldest daughter was three years old, we were notified that a level 3 sex offender was moving in next door. To the family's credit, the father of the offender (who was letting him come home) came to all the neighbors' doors and explained what was going on. He explained that his son had given a bath to his younger female cousin and had touched her inappropriately. He went to prison for 3 years and was now released as a sex offender. I told the father that I appreciated his forthrightness and to let his son know if I saw him so much as peeking over the fence at my daughter, he's getting one between the eyes. Protect your kids, because the government is terrible at it.

Because I can give you several well organized, solid studies that say sex offenders, for the most part are not rehabilitated. The majority of them get out and reoffend within the first 5 years. Repeat offenders account for a huge amount of crime and offenders released from prison are arrested at rates 30 to 45 times higher than the general population. (If you want to read the study I'm referencing, just highlight that line starting at 'Repeat offenders>down to "population" and search it on Google) it should be the first actual result. Because they know the same facts I'm giving you, they also know that recidivism has a direct impact on public safety and that recidivism reduction should be a key goal of the criminal justice system. Now, you may not see anything wrong with that last sentence but there is the problem and the answer to your question. Consider that I'm discussing recidivism which means the offender has already been to prison and the punishment wasn't enough to deter the sicko from doing it AGAIN. So, they hurt one person, usually a child, already. So, there's one life destroyed or at the very least, not going the way it would have otherwise. Then they will come out and almost assuredly do it AGAIN and there's nothing to say they get caught that time. And in a climate where ppl who aren't going to be in the kid's life for longer than a school year have the cojones to think THEY have any right to discuss some of the disgusting crap in some of these books outside the parent's direction? It'd be hard to spot the one most likely to harm your child in the sea of groomers. So, it could be done repeatedly and no one aware of it. And it would be because the GOVERNMENT didn't keep a freak of nature that they KNOW is the most likely to reoffend locked up and away from society. Look what Newsom did in California. Releasing 7000of them on the public and hiding the information on the offender site so the public wouldn't be able to see what has been done.

The only thing scary is how the media portrays the world. I'm not saying there aren't bad people or people who will harm you or your family, but the vast majority of the people are still looking out for you. In 1990, the murder rate was something like 9 per 100K people Today, its more like 6 and it was as low as 4 pre-COVID. So on that one statistic alone, we are significantly better. My sisters convicted pedophile neighbor was recording kids in the neighborhood and the law was called 5 times and they said as long as he was in the street he could record whatever. My dad was not ideal and he was often aggressive to me and my mom. But... At least he protected me from bullies in my school. I came almost every day in tears. The psychological pressure grew so much, that my dad could not accept that anymore and went to school to find them. Imagine a 1,90 m and 120 kg angry bosnian guy coming to you who watched you like the devil. He confronted them and they got so scared, that they didn't want to be near me. There were some bullies later, but then both my mother and father came. He would grab them on their shoulder and angrily talk "if I ever see you touching my daughter or saying shit avout her, I'll find you and your parents and combat all of you!!!!" He was bad to me, but I thank him for saving mw from those teenagers. I am not sure how much I would I could take it. I see every year kids having suicide due to bullying. When i was a kid, growing up was a confusing experience for me; kids were hostile to me because i was different; adults didn't payed much attention to me because i had no father and my mother left me with my grandmother, so i was pretty much the bastard of the family. Best friend was a dog i had and didn't had anyone to look up to. I am 43 now, i had to make a man of myself and on my own. I used to look for role models where i saw someone that resembled like a good strong man. Movies, books, TV, somewhere. Back thene didn't had all this internet apps and platforms to learn or to look for advise. I am a broken man i just hide it very deep, but i love my kids and put my best out there for them, so that they can grow whole and not in pieces; happy, respectful, strong, spiritual values and with everything that i struggled to learn, so that they can be ready to be on their own. And now i listen to Mr. Nick, telling me to be dangerous... and i know i am dangerous, in a way my kids know it comes from a good place. Listening to this... i feel at least for once, i am doing something right. Not one time i have ever heard someone tell me "i am proud of you", but today i feel proud of myself for being a dangerous dad. Thank you Mr. Freitas. This is so excellent and so important and so true. My Dad was a quiet kind man. He subtly exuded strength. I always felt safe and protected around him. He always showed up. I married a man like him and we've been loving each other for 30 years. He retired from 33 years of service in the army. He always makes me feel safe. ❤ After my Dad died I found out that in order to finance his dental practice at the height of the depression he became a professional wrestler. Olympic style not choreographed wrestling. He was very popular in wrestling circles and won quite often. I also found 5 loaded firearms hidden around the house in places unreachable by a child. I agree 100%! I'm proud my 3 little girls have a dad who is 6'5" and can lift more than anyone else in the gym. Also, I think it's important to note that moms need to do their part too. Another video from some "predator/scavenger" said that when choosing a girl or woman to molest or kidnap, they go for the easiest target and the one they think is least likely to put up a fight. That really hit it. It motivated me to fit, build muscle and be active. Not only that but even a mom and dad's mannerism and body language says a lot. If you're with your kids but distracted on your phone, not paying attention, slumping your shoulders, looking shy and weak that won't look good. But if you stand straight, put your shoulders back, be confident, look people in the eyes and keep your head on a swivel, these scavengers aren't going to like that as much and may end up picking an easier target.

YES. Thank you. Looking back (I am 70 now), I wonder if my father's office being just off the foyer of our house - with it's military displays - was orchestrated for that very reason. He was a WW2 vet and a member of the Greatest Generation. The walls were decorated with memoriabilia brought home by an ancestor from every war since the Civil War, up to and including Viet Nam. It included swords, knives, bayonets, rifles and mortar shells (just the casing), as well as a WW2 hand granade from the US, Japan and Germany. Also a flag and a box of medals. I don't remember (edit: him) ever having to DO anything. But my older brother who caught me smoking stepped in and stopped me. He reminded me that Dad hated smoking, and loved his little girl - and he felt I might be at risk for a spanking as a high school student if Dad found out. That was threat enough for me.

He taught me from a young age how to defend myself so I’d never be vulnerable. When he was dying as I was still a teenager, although I was a girl, he made me promise that I’d protect my mother. Nick, instant sub. I was at a customer service desk an there was a couple that was talking to the service rep and their 12-14yo daughter was standing there next to them. I guy to my right was looking the girl up and down in the most disgusting way. They were probably 8 feet between them. I stepped in between them and turned to the creep and said "What's up?", he tried to lean around me and continue his gawking and I leaned with him and just stared him down. He had about 4" and maybe 30lbs on me and I was ready to go right there in the store and I think he knew it. I am disgusted by this behavior and how oblivious some people are to it. This is exactly what’s wrong with society and the pressure on men to be “men”. This is a toxic way of thinking, don’t let fear control your life. What happened to just being a regular dad. A loving dad is much more valuable than a dangerous dad. At least that’s my opinion. I have spent most of my life training strength, conditioning and mma. I never made it pro and I have never needed this skill outside of the gym. I have been in a few street fights, but that was partly my fault. Never needed to protect anyone or save anyone with violence. I am 37 and I have lived in several countries. I just feel it was all a complete waste of time. The only thing I have to show for this is a destroyed body. Don’t do anabolic steroids. It can completely mess up your system if you don’t know what you’re doing. Don’t train harder than your body can handle, otherwise you’ll get injured and sick. Don’t do sparring, that is a good way of getting CTE. I am a dangerous dad, and it is really hard. It’s like I don’t fit in society and I’m terribly scared of losing my temper in any situation. I feel like a monster most of the time.

When my oldest daughter was in the 3rd grade, a boy in our neighborhood a bit older than her was picking on my daughter and her friend while they were out playing. I talked with her about different ways to handle it. My husband started hanging out in the front yard more often while the girls were out playing.. when this bully kid showed up he told the kid to get lost. That he was not allowed on our property and that he was to leave our daughter and her friend alone. The reason I tell this story isn’t that I’m proud of my husband, although I am. The reason I tell the story is the effect it had on our daughter. She felt so safe when her daddy stood up for her. She’s told that story numerous times over the years.. She’s now 15 and she just recently told that story on a family vacation. He showed her quietly without dramatics or threats of violence that he had her back that she was safe, and he would stand up for her. that’s a father’s job.

I would expand on that Peterson quote a bit. It's not that the sword remains sheathed, but that it is only drawn in defense of the weak, the poor, the orphan and the widow. If the sword is never drawn, than what is the point of carrying it? Wow. Yes. I realize now that I benefitted from a strong father, and now a strong husband. I took it for granted, and assumed everyone had parents in their corner growing up. Not all are so blessed. I was abused as a smaller child, ages 6-9. My father didn't know he needed to defend me, because he was naive and never imagined men/boys would be interested in a little kid like that. He thought the trouble would come after I'd reached adolescence. As a kid, I used the threat of my father to get the abusers to stop. All I had to do was tell them 'you're gonna stop this right now and never do it again, or I'm telling my dad.' It stopped. Too bad it took me 3 years to realize I could defend myself by saying that. Too bad I never realized til 40 years later that I should have told on them anyway, to save other kids from abuse. We need to tell our kids that nobody has the right to touch them, or to make the kid touch them. And that nobody is allowed to ask kids to keep secrets from their parents. I learned the hard way. I told my kids these things. My kids didn't get abused, thank God.

I am 73 and probably could be your grandmother. Lived a lot, observed a lot. I observed rather clear 'roles' between men and women in my childhood, to the gradual merge of that, that in the 50's was unheard of. 60's, 70's a huge shift, with many having one foot still in the traditional expectations and the other in the modern times. As someone who never had a man standing up for me as a child or an adult I can tell you It had a great negative impact on me. In my country there is a saying "throwing someone in deep water" basically meaning that let the kid/young man learn to solve the problem/work alone. Did 9 years active duty . I stayed in shape for that. Got out and now I train to protect my kids. I Lift weights, stay proficient with my firearms and I recently started rucking again. I keep a medical bag full of stuff in our family car and always have my car pistol with extra mags and rounds. My kids are my most important concern !! Amen. My cousin is a father and paralyzed from the waste down. Even that wouldnt stop him from eliminating a threat to his child if necessary. Sometimes will to survive and protect can override physical strength.

Speaking as the eldest daughter of an awesome dad. I’m training in self defense that can be adapted for defense of others. I’m trained in safe and skilled gun handling. I carry a defense whistle. I am willing to defend myself and those around me. My dad instilled that in me, not just my brother; he drilled it into us both. And my brother is more than ready and willing to defend his “big” sister and I am ready to do the same for my “little” brother.

I am a mother of 2 son's. When I was a baby both my par started to abuse me and neglect me, my father started to sexualy abuse me, it lasted right up until I left home on my 18th birthday. I cannot describe the trauma it caused and it took years of therapy to recover. I got physically fit and strong and took up Karate & BJJ, I have no problem becoming violent to protect my kids and their father is the same!

Please go kick/punch your father *HARD* and follow up with a roundhouse for what he did to you. Let him know why you are doing that. Slap your mama down. They earned that little bit of reality check for what they did to you. Sending you virtual high 5 and hugs.

Sad that for some girls, their monster is their father. My stepdad was my abuser. My cousins dad was her abuser and a family friend , she actually ended up pregnant by her dad at around 15. I really do think the only solution for these vile people is the death penalty.

I’ve got 2- and 4-year-old daughters and very, um, “relaxed” in-laws who try to make me feel crazy when I don’t let them out of my sight at the mall, or when I don’t let them go out on the town with grandma when im not there. But they can gaslight me a thousand times a day, I refuse to be that guy on the local news saying “and then they were gone.” Nope. No way.

Wish I could like this a million times. It is so true. Our daughter left her abusive husband, taking their two very young children. We knew nothing about this situation, she had kept it from us. But once it escalated to violence, she knew then she had to go because the situation was not going to get better and it had entered the danger zone. We were moving out of the house to our new house at the time. I wanted her and the children to move I. With us at our new house, but she wanted to stay in our old house. The one she grew up in in the area where she new the neighbors that she grew up with. Her daddy said ok and ask her if she thought ‘Jim’ would come to the house to scare her, harm her, threaten her. She looked at her daddy through the shame she was feeling and told him with confidence, No. Her dad ask her why she would think that? She looked up at him and said “Because he is scared of you”. Her daddy gave her a hug and said ‘Good. Because he needs to be’. That was some years ago and though. And though ‘Jim’ did spend some time driving past the house, he never came onto the property. Yes. It helps to be a scary dad and husband. It also helps to have scary brothers as well.
