I don't know, starting MMA at 18 is going to be so hard on the body if you start competing at that age. These days many MMA guys don't spar as hard as they earlier fighters did but if your fighting 3 to 4 times a year for 3 or 4 years it going to take a toll very early.

I doubt he swam across Tampa Bay. That is a 24 mile swim and the above average swimmer swims about 2 miles per hour. Over distance that is a very hard pace to keep. The fastest time across Tampa Bay is just under 10 hours.

Its the wrestling thats better. As a sport wrestling is intense and there is 0 respect for training partners. You wrestling tough every time you step on the mat. In jui jitsu you have the option to be a lazy fucker, or even to have the option to be more strategic which means less time going forward and more time to lounge around and figure a path to win. When you combine the wrestling with submission like sambo does, its makes for an easier transition into MMA as you have fighters used to the intensity of going 100% everytime which adapts to other parts of the fight game.

@@greasebob actually it is a lot more ridiculous given that they were in the middle of the ocean swimming at a random time with no medical support. If a weight cut or organized endurance event goes south then it’s easy to get to a hospital. But to just randomly decide to jump in the middle of the ocean and swim for hours is actually quite stupid and irresponsible. They wer not training. They were not competing. It was just a show of bravado for the adrenaline rush and bragging rights. 100% idiotic.
