awesome video! I really vibe with a lot of your reasonings behind why you do your daily studies. Discipline, a deeper understanding of art and art history, and a general commitment to the arts as a whole. Do you ever fall off the horse with your daily studies, or have you stuck with it? Perhaps I need to start doing them first thing in the morning, because I find I fail one day and don't draw which some times leads to a whole week of not drawing, which really sucks.

It happened by the past, mostly when I was doing pinterest studies aha. I didn't knew what were my objectives with it. That's like everything I guees, if you don't have any objectives with it/don't get the point, there's no reason to do it. And when I started master paintings studies everything became more clear

@@dailystudies1 objectives is a good point - and I do find myself just wasting time looking for refs with no real purpose! will definitely think about that, thanks!

Thank you for the insights regarding this. I'm in a bit of a dilemma in determining how to do this daily studies. I have a question : If I only have 1 hour to study for each day, I want to do daily studies and posting it everyday, but what should I prioritize? I'm a bit confuse regarding this If I prioritize on posting what I achieved in that 1 hour session everyday, it's mostly not that good or unfinished. but If I prioritize on finishing the study, it's either going to be more than 1 hour, or it needs to be more than 1 session that means I skip a day without posting. How do you approach this?
@dailystudies15 ай бұрын
I've always made my studies between 30 min to 1h, and when i mean posting it, you can share it on stories, discord server etc, it doesn't matter. My first dailies were really bad but i didn't let me the choice, because in my opinion, sharing it helps you to be more disciplined and better. People will think that's bad, but believe me, after the 100 one, they are gonna think you're unstoppable in a certain way, and that's good for you. We don't care if that sucks, just try your best and be smart, always think of fundamentals, getting better etc, and that's gonna be good

I think its also important to not study mindlessly and be specific about what youre going to be studying, mindlessly copying is just a waste of time. you need to know quite a strong theory about light & color fundamentals
@siegfreidx16335 ай бұрын
just like doing life figure drawing sessions, its a waste of time of you dont yet know whats happening underneath the skin, the anatomy i think
@dailystudies15 ай бұрын
I don't think so, you don't need a strong knowledge to study masters, they are the ones who will teach you nice fundamentals. But it's a complement to other lessons for sure, daily study isn't a single exercise, it's supposed to be a warm-up before doing something else
@dailystudies15 ай бұрын
same thing for figure drawing, there is so many things to learn instead of anatomy. You don't need to know anatomy to practice life figure drawing. Gesture, volumes, proportion, are as (if not more) important as anatomy, in regards of your objectives.

Is there a layout of study topics you would recommend to beginners to intermediates? I assume a beginner should start studying apples and bananas as compared to a Van Gogh painting, right? And when you say master paintings, do you specifically refer to old masters or even master painters in general who have mastered their craft? For example, could I just do studies of a digital painter like WLOP or Greg Rutkowski, or are old painters like Sargent or Leyendecker preferable? Thanks!
@dailystudies14 ай бұрын
Really good question. So, 1st point : If you are really beginning "art" journey in order to enter the industry to be a concept / illustrator etc then yes you have to start with basics of course. If you are not in a school, then draw apples, plasters, bananes etc (that's what I've started with in art school 5 years ago). But if you're exclusively talking about daily study, then do what you want honestly, just try to have fun first, cause the goal of dailies is everything around it like the discipline. Once you're in, reinforce your fundamentals, values, volumes, colours, composition etc... I've made more than 500 dailies, and I'm sure that the 100 first are really useless in terms of knowledge (only pinterest and nice looking images stuff) but it helps me to move forward and achieve 200, then 300 etc. So first, focus on completing that, then think about how can you improve your session by working on something that will reinforce your lacks. 2nd point : Wlop didn't start to draw the first day like Wlop aha. Denis Villeneuve didn't made Dune after taking his breakfast at 6 yo. Da Vinci wasn't an anatomy genius like that. You can't paint as Wlop, if you don't know what are his references, because there will be stuff that you will not understand, cause you don't have his knowledge. Always try to know the references of your own references, it will reinforce your knowledge, it will helps you to understand more what are the choices that people have made nowadays. It's about going back to the source, in order to understand more what you're doing. Craig Mullins wasn't born as freaking monster. He's got a fucking knowledge, he studied a lot. All the n°1 in this industry got strong knowledge, Mullins, Korwin, Jurabaev, Mielgo etc.. It's obvious that this knowledge plays a huge part in it. (imagine a scenario : maybe wlop is using a Rembrandt technique for the shadows who knows? But let's say it's maybe less good than Rembrandt, so by studying R, you'll maybe be better than Wlop in this part). Always go back to basics, but don't forget to create new stuff right. Making 1 step back to jump 50 m right after. I hope it helped you :)
@dailystudies14 ай бұрын
(so I think you can study both, Rembrandt and Wlop aha, nothing is useless)
