Why dark mode isn't always better for eyesight

I been using dark mode on my pc for a year now, I think I’m am going to switch back to light mode it’s been harder to read things in dark mode

I think solarized scheme is the best, or light mode with blue filter or color temp set to warm. I used to use dark mode for a decade, but now every time I read white-text on black background, 5 minutes later my vision would start blurring the text and I'm seeing ghost characters, plus gives me headaches. Nowadays I can only use light mode.

I think most of it stems from high contrast, and using an emissive screen when your eyes aren't adjusted. Most dark themes are lower contrast which is closer to paper, which is probably why dark mode in some apps just feels better.

Light mode is generally better, people that use dark mode seem to not be used to it. Light mode makes your eyes healthier when making them be able to be more powerful. Imo use both but try to avoid light mode at night and schedule it in your phone or pc.

It’s automatic for me here’s why dark mode is meant for night and light is for day here why lol. Light mode is easier to see and sun light seeing black text on a whit screen makes text to somewhat easier. Also light mode is more commonly used it’s better for to take notes for long periods of time. Dark mode is night time because it’s better at night less blue light towards the eyes and this list goes on and last it’s good for night shift workers at a job

Not all sites have a dark mode. Going from a white site (google does not officially have a dark mode) to a "dark" app is much more harmful to the eyes than a light mode. You either use light mode or dark mode EVERYWHERE. But like I said, not all sites/apps have a dark version.

In my case, dark mode makes my eyes cross if i'm reading texts for about 10-15 minutes in. It's like I'm forgetting how to focus with my eyes. lmao But yeah, I used dark mode for 3 years tops but eventually went back to light mode. doesn't make me cross-eyed as much as dark mode does. idk if this is relevant to the topic but I have astigmatism so maybe that's why I tend to get cross-eyed while reading text on a dark background.
