I’d say his defense is a six. At the end of the day he’s maximizing practicality over technicality and it’s beneficial. Also, he uses that high guard to start his combos in between his opponents punches. He not just waiting for you to stop.

Use the eye test both morrell and David are much bigger than canelo and throw combinations, a common attribute of fighters that give canelo big problems. No one else is a competitive fight at super middleweight other than them two. Benavidez has beat plant and Andrade leaving canelo no other choice but to fight for his belts at supermiddleweight. It has become very obvious that canelo just plans on carefully taking fights he knows he will win since his loss to Bivol. Munguia fights once at his weight and canelo chooses to fight him? And Charlo had no reason to be up at canelos weight to fight but money. These are all money making fights and not legacy fights.his last couple of fights are a very clear sign of ducking the true contenders at canelos weight.

I already made it clear no one except David and morrell are the only ones who are a threat at supermiddleweight which is the weight that canelo fights at. Canelo is willing to fight people in weight classes below him so he can weight bully them. Morrell and benavidez are both bigger than canelo and throw combinations. Most fighters with this type of build tend to do well against canelo. Him choosing a munguia as a more “credible” opponent that David or Morrell is blatant ducking.
