I’ve always liked your intro song. Not sure I’d change it.❤ P.S. I lived in Denver for a year. I LOVED it!! It’s definitely a young person’s town. Don’t have to drive far to get to places IMO. Surrounding towns are great. Scenery is gorgeous!! Hiking is great. Sun, sun, sun!!!! There ARE good restaurants, you just have to do a little research. ❤

Hey Taylor! So glad that you had a chance to experience Denver for awhile. I live south of the city, near Castle Rock. Here are my tidbits of info as someone in their 40’s that has lived here most of my life minus 6 years in Tokyo and traveling here and there to Europe and Asia: 1. Weather - We are experiencing a REALLY weird moisture pattern this year. Most of the state is typically dry and brown for the summer and we’ll get wildfires and the like. So please be aware that the “green” you’ve just experienced is a bit of an anomaly. Also, wintertime is usually nice and the sun pops out to melt the snow, so we don’t usually get the Minnesota brown snow that lingers, although this past ‘22 winter we did. If you did buy a house here with a garage, try and make sure that the driveway faces south or west. It’ll be less snow shoveling. Haha! 2. Home prices - When the great diaspora of folks from CA started moving here in droves with the housing meltdown in 2007, our housing prices jacked up so much. Now it’s a bit ridiculous since prices before then were really affordable. We also have tons of people from TX buying summer homes in the mountains. A common joke is that Crested Butte, CO should now be called Crested Butte, TX. Unfortunately, there are few places with cheaper housing left in CO. 3. Food - Definitely relative to someone’s preference. People here tend to go out and comment favorably about a restaurant based on a place’s alcohol selection and vibe rather than the actual food. ☹️There are a handful of places that are pretty good, but not top notch so you’ll have to contend with the mediocrity. LOL! 😉 At least we finally have Trader Joe’s here. 4. Medical and health/environment - my hubby and I have our own business and recently had to switch our health insurance to the ACA Exchange. Unfortunately, Colorado doesn’t give the self-employed a choice to opt into a private PPO plan, only HMO which in my opinion sucks if you want to go to various doctors at different facilities. Lastly, I think the slogan for CO should be “We have big hearts” ♥️ since I’ve always found people here to be friendly and outgoing as well as our hearts pump out a lot more because of the decrease in O2 being at higher altitude. I’ve known a few peeps with medical issues that couldn’t live here because of the elevation. Just keep that in mind with your migraines. Hope some of this helps and we’d love to have you here, girl if you so choose. Toodles and take care! xoxo Christine in sunny CO ☀️
@taylorwynn
@taylorwynn Жыл бұрын
Thanks for all the info! In regards to medical- do you have a single member LLC or are you a sole proprietor? That's wild they don't let you have a private PPO plan and that could potentially be a dealbreaker. Thanks!

@@taylorwynn Hey girl! Sorry, it was a busy day and I wanted to take time to write back to ya. My husband Ari and I have two C-corp businesses. We started the first one in 2007 and United Healthcare granted us a group plan because we had a group of 2. That was great because we could do the PPO that we wanted and also choose various docs that were in-network regardless of the facility/hospital. Well, circle around to Sept of ‘22 and all of a sudden there was some new UHC stipulation that says “there must be at least one full-time enrolled W2 employee who is not the spouse of an owner/partner.” Thus, they dropped us despite the fact that they were OK with everything for the last 15+ years. Lame. 🤬 Our insurance broker warned us that UHC was on the warpath with small groups like ours and our golden ticket was up. 🚫🎟 Thus, we had to go on the Exchange for the first time and quickly found out about the non-PPO dilemma here in CO, despite the fact that we could afford a good plan. Some people suggested getting supplemental insurance like Aflac in order to pay for the out-of-pocket places that some of the people I see are at, like for instance the gals that do my mammogram (Yes, I could go to a new in-network facility, but then it’s newbies dealing with your boobs. 😵‍💫) However, I found that an additional $300 x 12 months for two people, didn’t quite add up and it was just cheaper to pay for certain things myself. I know lots of people tend to do an HSA for tax-saving purposes, but we haven’t explored any of those options quite yet. Personally, I had surgery during the Panini (2021) and other treatments and even though I can’t prove it, I feel like UHC red-flagged us because of it. ☹️ I have a feeling you may know about that all too well (virtual hugs btw for all that your bod has been through. 🥺🫶🏻I know that it’s been rough going for awhile now and I’ve always appreciated your drive to live your life the best that you can). So in a nutshell, my advice would be to talk with an insurance broker here in CO for specifics since insurance is clearly not my jam. LOL! One other thing that I wanted to mention: Even though DIA is going through seemingly endless construction right now, it’s pretty decent in terms of travel times and destinations. West coast is 2-2.5 hours away and east coast around 3. United brought back the non-stop flight to Tokyo/Narita which we take (Ari is Japanese and we visit for work and his fam) and there’s a code share Lufthansa/United non-stop to Frankfurt. Not sure on a direct to Paris CDG, but we’ve done the BritAir non-stop to Heathrow. So, the travel options are pretty decent here. Let me know if there’s anything else I can help with and appreciate all of your videos so much. xoxo Christine ♥️

I’m from LA, grew up in Playa del Rey, lived most of my adult life in Santa Monica. I’ve also lived in San Francisco, Portland, Denver and now live in San Juan County WA. I lived in Denver for 4 years but sadly, 2 of those were covid years so my perspective may be skewed. I found Denver to be a lovely town, with very nice people. The demographic was young professional which might suite you. The weather isn’t quite as amazing as the publicity but it’s super nice. The snow is lovely, rarely sticks, and doesn’t really make a mess of anything but the traffic. It’s stunning. Even in the worst snow storm it’s not nearly as cold as Portland. 😂It does lack diversity, is missing retail variety, is a strange food desert, and actually is very expensive ~ and that’s from someone who’s from LA. Rents are high and very contract based. Don’t think you’re getting out of a lease early. 😂 If you want a car, which you really need, Car registration and insurance were off the charts. I mean mind blowing. Food costs are high and quality was poor (surrounding farms mostly farm cattle and cattle feed), energy costs were high, except petrol for your car, and personal services like hair, nails, Botox etc where off the charts expensive due to lack of competition. I paid more to get my hair done in Denver than I would ever have in LA, Santa Monica, or Beverly Hills. With a population of only 711 thousand people, vendors can charge what they want. The other shocker for me was that although I found the city of Denver super open and accepting of all kinds of people, 15 minutes out of town is not the same. Like in Oregon you have a super liberal city surrounded by super conservative, agricultural, state, so outside of collegiate areas, I heard and saw things that made my soul hurt. Luckily, you can live somewhere before you have to commit which is perfect and you just might find it’s your place. Turned out that this old lady needs the ocean more than she knew. ;-)

I've lived in Colorado my whole life. I'm 30 minutes from Denver, which is nice because I couldn't deal with the traffic on a daily basis, lol. It does seem to be growing in popularity. Even in my area, which was more rural growing up, it is now fully developed. Colorado is the best of all worlds, city, and country vibes with just a quick drive. It's always felt like home, but the cost, as you mentioned is making it hard for most of us natives. It's nice to hear others experiences though makes me appreciate it all a little more! Aside from the cost 😂

I lived in Denver for 10 years. Have also lived in Houston, okalahoma city and now Wisconsin (for snow). Denver by far was the easiest place to make friends as an adult. The south has hospitality but there is something about the people in Denver. They are very accepting. You can find your people no matter who your people are. But also they are very open! In the north people are very guarded and it’s harder to get to know people. I moved away from Denver for a guy. But it will always be my home even though I didn’t grow up there. Lifelong friends as well. And the vibe is just different somehow. Active people are active because it’s the way of life there. Denver is special. I visit often. And a hole in the wall ghetto Mexican restaurant is my first stop getting off the plane. I miss the food too.

I've lived in Denver most of my life and every neighborhood is so different. Even the "rough" areas have tons of cool restaurants and shops. The traffic isn't that bad if you don't work downtown and you're able to avoid rush hours. Denver is super into its health food so that's the main stuff you'll find here. Skiing and snowboarding is not required to live here, especially when you live in denver. Definitely agree with people being accepting and easy going, there's a general agreed philosophy of "I'm good if you're good" so people just match vibes and try to be welcoming as much as possible. This was very rambly but I hope it helped. I love living in denver and I really think we're one of the best cities in America.

Absolutely love Colorado and Denver! Moved outside of Boulder in 2019 from the east coast by DC and never looked back. The culture and acceptance here 1000% true. People here are so genuine and kind, complete opposite back east, especially in the corporate world. Everyone is more understanding here and there’s a true work life balance. And it is so easy to make friends! I’m 35 and it’s so easy to join a hobby group or just meet people at a brewery or even on trails. Some cons for me are the fires and random extreme weather, but you just get used to it. Just like living in CA or FL you get used to earthquakes or hurricanes. Also yes, food is okay, but you do have to dig for the spots. I’m Asian and Asian food is lacking but it’s getting better! But overall my happiness and mental health have been so much better since living here. Literally just going outside and seeing the mountains while on a walk has been so therapeutic

Definitely yes to all the pros and cons you mentioned! I was born and raised here in Denver as was my dad and I grew up hearing him say how much he loves this city. I never fully understood until I left. We have access to excellent healthcare. The view of the mountains (and from the mountains) never gets old. We have superpowers at sea level from all the existence at altitude! I’m sure every native of a growing city will say this but yes, I have watched the cost of living triple before my eyes even since I graduated from high school 12 years ago. At the time, $600 for an apartment felt like an impossible feat, now you’d have to have 2-3 roommates to pay that little. I know a million factors go into it, but we don’t know when we’ll ever be able to buy at this rate. And lastly, I think all the people you’ve heard shit talk Denver were trying to get you to stay away 😂 every single person I’ve ever met who’s moved here from out of state has fallen head over heels for this city. People come here and often stay. PS RiNo stands for River North and we pronounce it like “rhino”!

My husband (whom I live with in AZ) even feels at home there and has a very lively and communal vibe. I recommended McGregor square in downtown for sports. It’s a whole vibe! I personally don’t think the downtown is that bad in comparison to other cities. Larimer Square is gorgeous, the stadiums are both nice, and the views are amazing in the winter and summer alike! Although the surrounding areas are definitely where the charm hides. You cannot beat Red Rocks. The fall is literally a dream. Its an insane Segway into the holidays. Winter isn’t my favorite, but the transition of seasons is substantial. I didn’t mind each change. I truly think it’s a special place and always will be! I hope to move back some day 💙❤️💛

Colorado is a magical state for sure. I would say definitely come back during winter so you can experience that. And if you’re able to come out during fall… that’s the best time of year for sure lol.

Denver is a great city with lots to offer and is obviously an outdoor mecca! I moved here at 23 as a travel nurse by myself and found it to be a great experience. I moved back after i was married and had a family after living in Chicago and its been a wonderful place for a family as well. (i loved chicago too but denver winters are much better). You seem like a very active person who likes adventure and new experiences, I bet Denver would be a great fit😊 enjoy your travels!

Taylor you are SO sweet for making a flower arrangement for them!! I always try to do that for family if I house sit for them too. Always nice to come home to fresh flowers! Did you use one of those apps that lets you stay at peoples house in exchange for dog sitting or do you personally know them? Either way… so sweet of you! ❤

Grew up in Denver. Would never live anywhere else. I’ve seen every concert known to man at red rocks. Seeing it in the video brings back so many memories. Been on thousands of hikes. Colorado is the best!!! PS it’s cherry creek 😊.

I'd LOVE to see a video about your thoughts and experience on nomad-ing. I've been on a similar journey the last 18 months (except I have a cat with me and an EU passport so I'm going more slowly) but we seem to like similar cities (I'm in Edinburgh for 5 months at the moment, have lived in Seattle, SF Bay Area, New Orleans, Amsterdam, and nomad-ed in Barcelona and Budapest, heading to Paris in fall) and I'm considering Denver, Chicago, NYC, Dublin, etc. It's been great hearing your perspective on these places as someone with similar a taste and lifestyle!

I moved to Denver in 2010, I live by Sloan's Lake. I grew up in Seattle. I love Denver for a lot of the same reasons you mentioned, and I think we have a GREAT food scene, just stay away from the chains. In the winter I don't take the time to go ski/snowboard anymore due to insane traffic (and I have kids, so it gets $$$$$$$) but we go snowshoeing, hiking, etc. In the summer we do a lot of paddleboarding, kayaking, hiking, camping, and drink coffee on lots of patios and rooftops. SO MANY ROOFTOPS! All my friends have moved here from somewhere else, it is so easy to meet people, make friends, etc. The airport can be nuts, but it is not worse than LAX, JFK, SFO, or ATL. Love the cheaper flights, and shorter flight times to the coasts because we are closer to the "middle" of the country. No hurricane or earthquake issues here, and less/no tornadoes if you stay close enough to the foothills.

hiya! I would recommend visiting Bozeman, MT. I just moved here from San Diego and it has been awesome. It is a small town, very friendly, very green, about 300 days of sun as well. there are lots of bars and events to go to over the summer. the view of the mountains is incredible. lots of hiking spots, big ski/snowboard culture- though i don't do that. the people are very welcoming and warm. it is also a university town- so people are highly educated. not much diversity, but it is growing. the houses are so beautiful- though a bit expensive too. overall I been very happy here. it is a small, colorful, relaxed town

When I hear your intro song I KNOW it's a video from Taylor Wynn! It also reminds me of 15 Days of Foundation! Please keep it! I would love to know if you are getting tired of traveling, meaning airports and flights. I love travelling but I hate the logistics of getting from point A to point B. Is that taking a toll on you?

Moved to Denver from Austin, TX 10 years ago and it was the best decision ever! Very similar to Austin - both fun, young, active cities - just without the extreme heat. All the "pros" you listed are true - I think you would have zero regrets if you chose to move here!

Come to Denver!!! I moved here 3 years ago from the midwest and love it. Biggest con for me is the housing prices. So expensive. Biggest pros are the people - lots of people trying to meet other people - and the mountains. I'm not too into winter sports either but the camping and hiking still make it worth it! Also try safta for food, best restaurant in town :)

Ugh girl I’m a Seattle Native and both Oregon and Denver are my favorites 😩 it’s one of those things where the people being nice and it being beautiful is truly the tug away from WA. I’m interested to see where you go and will live through you for sure since I’m such a scaredy cat to leave 😭

Never been to Denver but Taylor and all these comments sure are making me want to go! I'm a Seattle native as well and have become increasingly aware that it's so hard to be my naturally open and friendly self now that I'm in my 30s...almost like I shouldn't be that way -- but I can't help it lol. There are pockets of friendliness but it's still a challenge. Now that some of my family has moved to Texas, though I don't see myself moving for some years, I've still been feeling that tug away from WA as well 😏

My brother moved to Denver 2 years ago, so Ive already been there twice. I didn’t think the traffic was that bad, but I’m from Miami. Miami traffic is horrendous! My brother took me to several good restaurants, so I don’t agree that the food is bad. It’s very friendly, and I love all the places to go hiking. Housing is very expensive, but the homes are gorgeous!
