Madison Behrmann loves typical 3-year-old things like Disney, playing with her brother and helping her mom cook, but is she ready for jury duty? Her parents never considered it until Madison got a letter from the U.S. District Court in New Jersey asking her to fill out a questionnaire to see if she is eligible to serve. I knew a guy that used all 3 of his kids identity. He used them to open up cell phone contracts, cable bills, light & gas bills etc.. I can't imagine how they felt when they got of age & seen the damage that was done. He ruined they're credit before they were even 10! He had $4k bills outstanding then, he'd try the next kids number to see what he could use with it.. When I turned 18, he foolishly talked me into putting his DTE bill in my name & after 6 months, he had that bill up to $2,400.. I ended up having to pay that bill when I got with my husband years later while we were moving into our first house together.. NEVER again will I be naive & put my credit on the line!

I can just imagine a jury of 12 three year olds. Every 5 minutes someone is going to be screaming for a potty break. By the time they're all done with the potty, then it's going to be lunch time. In other instances, it's not uncommon for parents to add their kids name to their acct and give them an allowance. Like if they wanted to get some snacks on the walk home for example, they could use the card. It would be a great way to build a good credit score early as long as it's done responsibly.

The question is not just, "why would a three-year-old be summoned for Jury Duty?" But how would they get any information for identity theft when she should have no identity to steal. A toddler doesn't have Credit Cards, or a Drivers Licence. No type of identity to steal.

They still have a social security number. When I turned 16 and got my driver's license and first bank account (back in the 90's), I couldn't write checks. Apparently someone made uo a driver's license number and wrote bad checks on it. I was unfortunate to get the same number when I got my license and all my checks were declined because of the fraud. Back when i was in school wr had something like this. I ended up in a fight at 16 and had to go to teen court....where the damn teens decided i needed to do 45 hours of community service and set up my fine. This is after i explained i got jumped. Stole identity is common in my area. Parents, guardians or family members have destroyed their credit. So they'll use their children social numbers. I've only witnessed gas, water, electricity, phone and cable bills under a child name and social. Children's credit is usually destroyed before high school.

While it's possible fraud/identity theft led to this, I'd wager it was a clerical error. Someone in the county with the same name was pulled for jury duty, and somehow the addresses got mixed up in the system. My grandma's health insurance was cancelled recently because of a clerical error - a death record was entered with an SSN one digit off, and her insurance company was notified that she was deceased. Usually you don't have to tell the deceased about their own passing, so they quietly ended her coverage, unaware that she was, in fact, still going to need it...

When i got my first id at a young age we found out my identity was stolen, and it took hours to correct it. I had prove who i was to the secretary of state and everything it was a living nightmare.

Often times people will try and put utilities into their child’s name because they had the utilities shut off in their own name. Situations like that I imagine is how a child can be mistaken as an adult.
