People have their ups and downs that's how it goes. The current state of Greece is not good we all know that. But where would the Arabs be without all their oil? I think you have an idea that all the west is bad since they colonised and used other countries. But Greece and Ethiopia are both old Christian countries and I think they would generally regard each other with sympathy. Only you seem so angry about a crude description of a country that people used 2000 years ago, that makes you hate a modern nation. That's logic for you! (Maybe that's something one of the old philosophers could teach you some more about, something which your Holy Book frankly has some troubles with sometimes) And lastly maybe you should recheck the (not so small) role Arabs had in the slave trade Cheers mate

You have given some incorrect information, the name Abyssinia is European term or reference to the abesha (habesha) people. Habesha is synonymous with Ethiopia for Ethiopians. Don’t forget that traditionally and in present day rural Ethiopia, no Ethiopians knows or heard the name Abyssinia. This word- Abyssinia came to be in use by Europeans sometimes after 1860s and they (European) dropped the word habesha from their writings . Before that period, for example in 15th century European writers like Baltazar Téllez (1595-1675), the author of the Historia General de Etiopía Alta (Coimbra, 1660), Refer Ethiopia as Ethiopia not as Abyssinia. Ethiopian king by the name ezana around 4th century had have coin on which the word Ethiopia was printed . therefore, don’t misinform us by saying Abyssinia changed its name to Ethiopia . that is incorrect

It is completely wrong; the name Ethiopia comes from the peoples who follow the wise King Ethop (King Ethop is a man who wisely rule the northern part of the country, specifically around the lake of Tana and the Nile source regions. King Ethop is claimed to be the son of old testament Melchizedek. By the way still the name Melchizedek is very common in current Ethiopia). With this small background, if you follow king Rastafari you will be known as Rastafarian, similarly these peoples who follow the wise King Ethop teachings and way of life were known as Ethopian. At that time, Ethopians were very famous in philosophy and writings; even that era is claimed to be the origin of current Ethiopian art, which is completely different from other arts of the globe. Anyway due to the popularity of the wise King Ethop and his followers (known as Ethopian), the Greeks come to visit them. After the Greeks complete their visit, they went back home; in their home (in Greek) peoples ask them how this great wise King and his followers look like? did they look like us? Then the visitors respond to the question by saying they are like sun burned individual. After that when the Greeks see sun burned individual they ask him or her are you a follower of Ethop. For further information read the old books of Greeks, these visitors wrote books about the greatness of King Ethop and his followers (known as Ethopian). This clearly shows you the name Ethiopia comes as a reference to peoples who follow the wise King Ethop.

Facts the maker of this video has no clue about:- 1) Never in her thousands of years of history, Ethiopia, has ever been called Abyssinia. Abyssinia is a name colonial minded European powers with their so called academics, tried to impose on the country in the 19th century. This way, they figured, the would divorce the people from their biblical name "Ethiopia" to their Arabic derived and Latinized name "Abyssinia" and make it easier for their purpose in their mad scramble to colonize Africa. 2)Ethiopia does not mean "burnt face" neither the name itself is of Greek origin. Before the tiny islands of Ionia and the Aegean peninsula became a polity to become a nation known as Greece around 700 b.c, Ethiopia was already thousands years old. The latter name can not name the former, that is absurd! More over, the classical Greek word for black or burnt (as they say) is not "Aithiop" or the nonsense that they spew, the superlative adjective for black in Greek is "melanochros" not Aethiop! 3)Ethiopia is a name derived from the old Ethiopic (Ge'ez) language which can be translated only in Ethiopic script. Ethiop, is the grandson of the biblical son of Noah, Kush. Ethiop, which can be translated to "yellow gold" in the Ethiopic language is the the King who lent his his name to present Ethiopia, as the father of the rainbow people of Ethiopians and most of the present "ethnic" groups.

You got it WRONG. Ethiopia did not came from Greek. The Greek name translation is the story develop by Europeans. The Name Ethiopia exist even before the Greek nation exist. Iytop is the grand son of Cush. Read Old Testment Books Genesis, Psalms, Moses and King Solomon Books. You will find Ethiopia. The Greek nation didn't exists that time. How the nation exists thousands years later were able give a name for the people lived before. Don't make sense. You need to correct your video. One of Adam son Named Orite establish Ethiopia. Ethiopians knows our history origin and naming. Don't give your hypothesis as true justification.

People living in the area use the name Habesha to refer to themselves, and call the country Ethiopia. This has been the case for more than 1500 years. During the 18th and 19th century, the name Abyssinia was used very commonly in Europe to refer to the country. However, the emperors in the country never used the term Abyssinia. They always called themselves as Emperor of Ethiopia. Another point, the reason people love the name Ethiopia is because it is mentioned more than 40 times in the bible. After the country became Christian in 4th century, the name Ethiopia started being used widely domestically.

lobsterbale 2 ancient Ethiopia wasn’t Kush. Sudan is ancient Cush. Ethiopia as you said means Africa. Modern Ethiopians are mixed race part Arab and part native East African. Sudan had a lot of ancient history pertaining to ancient Egypt at Meroe eg the most pyramids etc. Kush is Ham, not Semite therefore is not Ethiopia as a mixed race country. Cairo museum explains this. Habesha are a minority tribe in Ethiopia not the majority Ethiopian habesha refuses to believe they are mixed race they look it. Arabs confirm that... king Tirhakah was a kushite/Sudanese-ruler, not Ethiopian. Before being called Abyssinia Ethiopia was called Axum no where near Sudan or Egypt. Ethiopia is not a Greek name. That is a lie. Ethiopia means the good land and is the foundation that borne the greatness of all of Egypt. Aethiopia/Ethiopia is also the correct and True name of what is today so called "Africa". Even the so called "South Atlantic ocean" is a lie and is Truly called the Ethiopic ocean. The Greek explanation you gave is simply the Greek interpretation of a word that is not native to their tongue.

Ethiopians never actually really called themselves "Abyssinian" (except for modern Ethiopians trying to romanticize their past). Northern (Semitic) Ethiopians used the name "Habesh" to described themselves for a long time, (habesha is specifically the ethnicity of Ethiopians who live in the north), but Ethiopians from what I can tell have a different idea of where the name "Ethiopia" comes from. I hear that they have a founding myth that a guy named Ityoopas fouded Axum in their Book of Axum, though this might be false seeing as to how the only places I've seen make this claim are sites like Quora and other online forums. Medieval Ethiopians called their state "Ethiopia" though, not Abyssinia.

As far as I know, Christian Ethiopia (which primarily dominated Northern Ethiopia, but did also dominate central ethiopia), the same region who would basically build modern Ethiopia to what it is today during Menelik's campaigns, has always known herself as Ethiopia, atleast since Medieval Ethiopia, this being why I said what I said. I am aware that others called them "Habesh", I think a part of that has to do with the fact that Europeans got their name for Ethiopia from the Arabs, who called them Habesh, and curropted it to make Abyssinia, which they then called Ethiopia. Sort of how the Greeks and Romans called Iran Persia but the Iranians never called themselves Persian. Menelik II sure did, along with other 1800s Shewan nobility, who considered themselves the kings of Ethiopia. It's a name that carries alot of historical value to them, in that regard.

Many countries dealing with exonyms adopt post-factum creation myths and legends that give a new meaning to the name. It doesn't event have to be countries. We do this with people names too. For example, "Madison" means son of Maud, but since this is now a popular female name, many people will tell you that its meaning and origins are completely different from this one.

The Habesha people also known as Abyssinians, are a population group inhabiting the Horn of Africa, which was situated in the northern highlands of Eritrea and Ethiopia. The peoples referred to as "Habesha" today the Amhara,Tigray, Biher-Tigrinya and include Tigre people of Christian background. The term "Habesha" was formerly thought by some scholars to be of Arabic descent because the English name Abyssinia comes from the Arabic form.The Christian Kingdom of Aksum, present-day Ethiopia, Eritrea and Yemen (formerly referred to as Abyssinia, a name derived from the Arabic Al-Habash).

The border lines for Ethiopia and Abyssinia are way different (as you probably already know). Most of the southeast/northeast belonged to a different kingdom which wasn't claimed by ethiopia until the late 1800s. The inhabitants there didnt even go by habashi(in arabic adding the I at the end of a word shows affiliation with that thing therefore habashi=people of habash/Abyssinia). There are older maps drawn out by the arabs showing the distinction between the lands.

Abyssinia is related to Amazigh.Abyssin is mispronounced word of Amazig. On the other hand, Ethiopia is kind of degotery Greek word which means "Burned face" which means black. All around red sea and Medetrean sea live people of dark skin. This people were there forever. They were warriors who defeated every attacking forces sinceEgyptians, Assyrians, Persians, Greeks, Roman's and late Europeans colonists. Some Europeans thought were mixed race. However, they were natives who span from what is known today Somalia, Djibouti, Eritrea, South Egypt, North Sudan,Libya, Aljeria(Amazigh), Morocco, Tunisia, Chad, Muritania(Moors), Mali(Tuareg) and Niger. From 711 when Arab Muslims concurred North Africa most of Amazigh became Muslims till today. These people are little different physically their subsaharan brothers and sisters. Most of this community are fierce warriors who always fought horseback.

SweetWheatsy that's the problem witha. Lot of people. They assume moh these people will be offended by this' and they tend to attack people because of it, not saying you've attacked anyone in fact what you said is quite logical. But many people will be furious and attack people and label them as racists and bigots because they assume a group should be offended (these people are called SJWs). I used to do a similar thing, until someone got offended on my behalf and i thought 'who the hell do they think they are?' And realised how out of place i was being. A few times i was in school and a friend asked me 'what's your favourite colour' i said 'red and black' and almost the instant i finished the word 'black' about five people called me a racist, as if calling a black person black should be an insult. That's what i find ironic a lot of the time people k 'you called a chinese person chinese/black person black/asian person asian/etc. That's racist' but the irony is that by insinuating that an etc person wouldn't want to be associated with etc is actually saying that being etc is wrong
@sweetwheatsy
@sweetwheatsy 5 жыл бұрын
I understand what you're trying to say, it's just that in this case, the connotation was quite special. Normally, I'd say "burnt face" has a pretty negative association - especially compared to "mixed". But hey, it differs.
@jimmyalderson1639
@jimmyalderson1639 5 жыл бұрын
SweetWheatsy if ylu look at almost any old word and look into its etymology or you look at some foreign words and translate them into english directly they almost always sound unnecessarily blunt. For example the word for 'foreign country' in Spanish is 'estrajero' (or something like that) and what it means is 'strange land'. What's wrong? Are spanish people racist? Do they not know that the lands are not strange but just different? Of course not, it's just relative. It's only in the modern day that people think that saying something as it is is crude and insensitive. For example if a person has innate brain damage what do you call them? There used to be words you could use but now they're all bad. Retarded --> challenged --> disabled --> differently abled --> special. How do you descrobe a person with dark skin? Negro --> black --> *no appropriate word*. What makes something inappropriate is the intent behind it. The word 'nigger' for example IS racist, because of how it was used. The word 'black' isn't racist, but lots ofmpeople insist that it is for no reason. As the man said on this thread, bej black is something Ethiopians are proud of. It's like if you were to call me 'ghost skin' it sounds a bit strange but if you call everybody of my race that then i guess its a heritage. Black people have a histlry of suffering and perserverence and they should be proud of that. Similar,y white people have a history of philosophy and science and they should be proud of that. That dlesn't mean that if you're white or black you're smart of worthy of unconditional sympathy, but you have a history to look upon. And of course they'r ebkth human so they can both be proud of of what humanity as a whole has achieved, even if the achievements were made by a different race. I understand that you think of describing a land as diverse is much nicer than describing the people that live there, but calling it a mixture actually gives it less of a characteristic nature. America, england, germany, ethiopa are all full of different races and religions and such - in fact it's. Ore characteristic to not be called a diverse country. So your country's name should have some sort of pride associated with it. For england it's the Land of the Angles, harmening to old Germanic history. But if i lived in 'Land of Lots of Stuff' i wouldn't feel any sort of of pride Some people don't like national pride, but without national pride the world will gradually move towards being a monotonous rock where everything's the same. So being prideful doesn't necessarily mean being undiverse. But imagine if you were really proud of your countr, then you look at a list of countries and what their names mean and you see: Land of the Angles, Land of the Burnt Faces, Land of the Rising Sun, Then yours is: Land of Lots of People If i had a choice between my country being: Land of Diversity or Land of the Angles, i'd definitely pick the latter

@@theprodigy2236 Axumite History is not only the cultural heritage of Tigray, since it was much larger than modern Tigray. The Tigre people of Sudan and to some extent of Eritrea are the most related modern people with the ancient people of Axum (geneticall and linguistical) and not the Tigrinya speakers of Tigray and Eritrea. And regarding D'mt: Most pre-aksumitic archeological sites are to be found in Eritrea and to a lesser extent in Sudan and Ethiopia. Regarding Punt: Punt was a land describe in writings of ancient Egyptians. Till this day we don't even know the exact location. It's a good short video but it doesn't explain enough so let me add some additional information. First thing Abyssinia is a cool name but not as grander and more historically relevant as Ethiopia aka Cush aka Nuba Sudan. Ethiopia is the first nation to be mentioned in the Bible Genesis creation, Ethiopia also mentioned over 44 times seconded to only Isreal. So as Ethiopia is a Christian nation this fact is a very big deal.

The meaning of Ethiopia is not as you said. No country named by an outsider. When it has a bad meaning....This is nonesense and trying to insult. Ethiopian call them self Ethiopian not by Greeks. Except recent years no a single Ethiopian appreciate a friegner and accept a name given by outsiders. That is why Ethiopia was independent these much long years more than 3000 years. Ethiopia is a word comes from a king named Ethiopis which means Ghion's Yellow Gold Gift. That is the meaning Ethiopians understand themselves. Please don't give some other meaning when a word have the same sound in other language. It could have been better if you said the word Ethiopia comes from Utopia a more close sound and acceptable. In your next video please show us the difference between Utopia and Ethiopia. Thanks!

If you read your bible then you will know that Ethiopia actually means the "people of burnt face". God said that, not Europeans. Ethiopians are Hamites. The original name is Ethiopia not Abyssinia! Ethiopia is perfect as it is, nothing is needed. Adam or God gave it name Ethiopia no one else.
@marewatnafu1524
@marewatnafu1524 5 жыл бұрын
NAR WAR Yes correct, Ethiopia is an exact name as it is but the meaning is not as you said. Ethiopian are hamites, yes of course. But how do you mean by hamites means people of burned faces. You missed the point, neither Ethiopia nor hamites means to say burned face. Ham is a son of Noah. People from Ham races are called hamites. Hamites include not only Ethiopians but also Somalis, Egyptians. That is it. Don't be confused. The Ethiopians themselves are the only and best choices to give a meaning for their own names. I think God has never insult a human being.

Now, which makes more sense? A country naming itself by a foreign adjective referring to its inhabitants' skin color and adopting it as their official name, or a foreign country adopting(creating) an adjective from a certain country by associating that country's name with the inhabitants' color? The name Ethiopia does not, as you say, come from a Greek origin, which European historians have labored to create by plastering the two Greek words to create some sort of meaning and lay a western claim to the enigma they found beyond the Red Sea. Ethiopia is named after the first Axumite king Ethiopis. Even if the claim above was a mere myth, it is our myth, and it is more legitimate than the amateur historians who came to our lands pretending to be missionaries. When a falsehood is repeated enough times, and no one bothers to check its merit, it becomes the truth and further intrigue builds upon that same false foundation. This is an Ethiopian history, the pure, the sacred, the enigma, and we have books to refer to, our own. Thanks

The british gave the land to haile selasie for helping them conquer the dervishes after 30 years of bloody war btn the colonists and the somali dervish state. The reason somalia got into civil war is because of the 77 war which somalia wanted to take back its occupied lands. Even today the people of the region are fighting for their freedom and will soon get their freedom. #freewesternsomalia #freeogaden. Ethiopia is colonial creation which will never succed. Look at ethiopia today on the brink of civil war and the somali region declaring its independency after soo many years. Western invaders are a disease. #freedom for the somali people.
