Bellatrix was much more complex in the books than she was in the movies. One of her most redeeming qualities is precisely her loyalty to her family. I am 100% convinced that the Malfoys were kept alive and not permanently incapacitated during DH only because of Bellatrix's favour with the Dark Lord. Many people underestimate Bella and Voldemort's relationship: she knew the worst of him, but still lied to him to protect her family and I'm sure that if he had ordered her to kill or torture Cissy or Draco, she would not do it.

Bellatrix betrayed the dark lord in that moment to help her sister. Her and Narcissa (and at one point andromeda) have always been very close & Bellatrix knew how much Narcissa’s son Draco meant to her. Even though she knew it was betraying her master, she still did it anyways in loyalty to her sister. Now, if Voldemort were to have found out about Bellatrix accompanying her sister to Severus snape’s home & being the one to conduct the unbreakable vow between Snape & Narcissa to protect Draco, he would’ve been furious. I think he would‘ve been just as or even more furious than he was at Bellatrix & Lucius for their failure at retrieving the prophecy at the ministry, especially furious at Lucius. Voldemort gave the dumbledore mission specifically to Draco to punish Lucius for his failure to retrieve the prophecy. He knew Draco wouldn’t be able to go through with it & most likely would have severely punished Draco & Lucius or even killed them both for Draco’s failure if Snape wasn’t there to complete the task.

Lucius had issues and definitely deserved a stint in Azkaban and to be kicked out of his job at the Ministry, but I don't think he even came close to the level of Bellatrix. Bellatrix tortured the Longbottoms, killed Sirius Black, likely killed Tonks, and likely greatly injured or killed others that weren't really highlighted in the books. Lucius, on the other hand, unless he was part of the Devils Snare assassination plot that killed that St. Mugno's healer, never actually killed anyone. The worst I can think of that he did was that Chamber of Secrets stuff, and, in the end, that ended up killing nobody except the bit of Voldermort's soul, and the basilisk I suppose. Come to think of it, once Dobby was free, why didn't Dumbledore have him testify against Lucius or , if he thought the Ministry wouldn't listen to a House Elf, why not use that Pensive to get some memory of Lucius being behind the whole Chamber thing? If Dobby knew enough to warn Harry, surely he must have overheard something that not only showed Lucius was behind the Chamber mess, but also, as Dobby seemed to reckon, that Lucius's main target wasn't the Weasleys, I think that came about after the fight in the bookstore, but Harry Potter, as Dobby seemed to be warning mainly Harry, instead of trying to go to Dumbledore.
@eranshachar99542 жыл бұрын
@@littlefoot5013 Good points. 1st of all Bellatrix did kill Tonks. And the fact that we can't connect Lucius to deaths, doesn't mean he didn't murder. And the ministry would have never believed a House Elf because they were corrupted. With the chief of corruption Cornelius bloody Fudge who was the worst.

@@littlefoot5013 Lucius Malfoy was an opportunist who latched on to the meanest toughest bully in the yard. He was a wealthy, well coiffed, pompous, version of Peter Pettigrew without the animagus factor. His only real redeeming quality was his devotion to his son and even that is tainted with the stench of self serving mindedness. Draco being the last Malfoy left to carry the name and bloodline pretty much makes him a golden child. Had he been a female he wouldn't have had that lvl of devotion from Lucius. Even at the end of the Battle Of Hogwarts they were just sitting together off to the side no one paying attention to them when all of them, or at the very least Lucius, belong in Azkaban. Hell, Lucius should have been in there from the beginning just as long as Bellatrix to be for real.
@littlefoot50132 жыл бұрын
@@fr0stb1ght34 I suppose so, as his actions COULD well have resulted in many deaths. I mean, it does seem like he didn't care that OTHERS besides Harry (like Ginny for instance) could have died from the Chamber being opened (nor, indeed, that it would inconvenience, for the time being, a great many Slytherins would be inconvenienced by the school closing. And I don't think he knew that the dairy was a Horcrux capable of actually bringing Voldemort back. I don't think ANY of the Death Eaters knew that, at least Voldermort surely didn't tell them. Regulas turned on Voldermort when he found out about them, and Lucius, precisely because he WAS an opportunist, would have gone blabbing to some people, especially after how Voldermort was treating his family in Deathly Hallows and all the stuff Voldermort had done to Draco in Half Blood Prince.) Also, I don't think Lucius would have minded had Luna, Neville, Ron, Hermoine, and Ginny (at least I think she came, though maybe she didn't, I know she dealt with the inqusitorial squad.)

Bellatrix is such an interesting character and much loved among the fans, despite being evil. Don't we all have something (or someone) in our lives we're obsessed about, which some might call love and other crazy adoration? Bellatrix is an example of someone deeply emotional going over to the dark side. With her actions mainly based on feelings, it makes her dangerously unpredictable and, in my opinion, much more dangerous than someone more calculating like Lucius.

Kind of overlooking the fact that Bellatrix was *CRAZY* and that most of her actions were not really a part of any kind of master plan. She was openly unhappy about what Narcissa was doing and enthusiastically stated that if *she* had sons she would gladly sacrifice them for the Dark Lord. I think that she went along with this because a) she was simply clinging to Narcissa because her sister was her only anchor for her sanity, since Voldy didn't seem to care, and b) she hated Snape for not having been imprisoned in Azkaban and was just hoping that he would die trying to kill Dumbledore.

The biggest problem I have with this entire series is using love as weapon. Even if magic is down to intent, not every single person is going to agree on the same definition of love. When you can't define something, it's dangerous. And when it's dangerous, you shouldn't use it as something to win a war with, or otherwise.
@Astrid-882 жыл бұрын
"And when it's dangerous, you shouldn't use it as something to win a war with, or otherwise." = you basically dismissed what war and weapons are. It probably isn't your point (I don't really get your philosophy) but war itself is dangerous and all weapons are dangerous. So why not use love as a weapon when some definitions of love are dangerous? That's what actually makes love a weapon. Weapons are dangerous. Love turns into a weapon when love is dangerous. Love that isn't dangerous is not a weapon.
@A_Morgan_S14002 жыл бұрын
@@Astrid-88 I meant dangerous as in unstable. Not everyone will define love the same. Surely there are enough definitions out there in the world to make one's head spin. If magic is down to intent and the intent is a little different each time, why does the spell/magic still work?

Bellatrix's betrayal is up for debate, because Voldemort's order had room for interpretation. The task of killing Dumbledore allowed for two possible outcomes: either Dumbledore dies, or Draco fails and dies instead. Sure, we could all understand that Voldemort intended for Draco to fail, simply because of the difficulty level of the task, but for Death Eaters, fulfilling their master's orders is their number one priority. Because it's not specified that Draco MUST kill Dumbledore directly in a duel (indirectly was fine, as he tried with the necklace and wine), it could be debated whether or not Snape killing Dumbledore instead falls within the borders of that order. At the end, Draco used everything he had access to, in order to fulfill his task. If Voldemort wanted to kill Draco directly, he would have been dead. If Bellatrix thought that either outcome would have pleased her lord, she could have justified her trip to Spinner's End, at least in her own mind. Would Voldemort be extremely upset, no doubt. But I don't think she saw it as a betrayal, simply because she'd rather die then betray him.
