Buddy also continued these traits later in life, he didn’t care if his assistant was to be killed by Mr incredible(lack of empathy), as well as the blatant killing of superhero’s to prove how he is better than them(lack of empathy and self importance). People with Narcissistic personality disorder also typically have high intelligence and are very manipulative, which can also be seen with his inventions and manipulation of the government and assistant.

Syndrome definitely lacks empathy and is very narcissistic, but I don't think he didn't care about Mirage. For him, daring Mr. Incredible to kill her was like playing a game he KNEW he wasn't going to loose. It wasn't a gamble in his mind. He also acts really confused when Mirage confronts him about it later in the film. He truly didn't seem to understand why she was so angry. I'm not saying he's a good guy or anything. I just don't agree that he didn't care if she died.

Buddy Pine was actually no different than Peter Parker from Spider man Homecoming. Both characters were naive kids who looked up to superheroes and wanted to be just like them without realizing the dangers that come with being a super hero. The only difference between Buddy Pine and Peter Parker is that Peter eventually learns about how not only is not mature enough to be like the heroes he idolizes, but that being a super hero is actually more life threatening than he realizes ( example: Avengers Infinity War).

And Peter learned and became a hero whereas Buddy became a super villain, so he is just like Eobard Thawne/Professor Zoom/Reverse-Flash

Funny enough, Sydrome's plan (as a villian) was quite similar to Mysterio's from Spider man Homecoming. Also, Peter only trusted mysterio because he was grieving the loss of his former mentor, Tony Stark. He was also a hero before Mysterio appeared.

I always felt like Buddy clearly misunderstood Mr. Incredible's intentions when sending him away from danger. I feel like if he knew what exactly went on he would've been a possible hero instead of a villian. I love this theory and appreciate how much research you put into it

Buddy was overly obsessed and entitled, so even if he did get his way, he would've still became a villain. He would've wanted to be bigger and better than Mr. Incredible, which probably would've led to a betrayal. Think about it, narcissist don't necessarily like being in the shadow of anyone. They mostly want to be the best/boss. So as a sidekick, he would've learned everything he wanted to learn then realize (according to him) he could be better and would want to go on his own.

The movie also implies that Buddy didn't have a father figure. Bob specifically tells the cops to tell Buddy's mother what he's been doing. That struck me as significant because fathers tend to be the disciplinarians, but Bob makes no mention of Buddy's dad. Even though Buddy claims he was trying to help Mr. Incredible, what he was really doing was asking Mr. Incredible for help. He basically wanted Bob to be his dad. Buddy also says "you never say which part of yourself to be true to". That's a pretty ominous line when you consider what Buddy turns into later in the film. It makes me wonder if he was already struggling with violent thoughts or actions even as a little kid. (maybe towards kids that were bullying him) At that point in the film Buddy had decided to be "good" and reached out to Mr. Incredible basically demanding his attention and approval. (his arrogant way of asking for help) Bob's rejection hurt Buddy so badly that his love and admiration turned to hatred and bitterness. Syndrome's whole motivation in the film was basically that if he couldn't be a super hero, he'd make sure no one could be. He wanted to completely destroy them. By the time we see him as Syndrome, he's completely consumed by bitterness and jealousy and is nursing a MASSIVE inferiority complex. He was so far gone at that point, I don't think there was any way he could have come back from it.

Yeah it fits with the movie about family dynamic buddy doesn't have a dad maybe walk out or passed away when he idolize Mr incredible he imagine him as his dad unconsciously we don't know much about his relationship with his mother but I have a feeling it was strain during in mid or late 50's a nuclear household was the ideal perfect family if your a single mother during that time people will give looks spread awful rumors it didn't help that some women weren't allowed to work and I bet buddy's mom work really hard to be a two parent but it wasn't enough for buddy.

I've long thought Buddy Pine had narcissistic personality disorder (to me, at least, it's pretty transparent) and that even if Mr. Incredible had handled him better, he would still have eventually found some basis to feel slighted and turn evil, since reality would never have given him the easy admiration he felt he deserved (and honestly, while Mr. Incredible was a bit rude, he was absolutely right not to take on a child sidekick without the knowledge or consent of the kid's parents).

I always thought it was also because he saw Mr Incredible as a father. Bob only mentioned “his mother” rather than “his mother and father” or “his parents” meaning he could be raised by a single mom. He wants a father figure to replace either a dead or absent father.

Honestly Mr. Incredible had every right to reject Buddy, as Elastigirl told her children, the bad guys won't exercise restraint just because someone's a child, and Mr. Incredible does not have an endless supply of Incrediblerangs to thwart someone from simply shooting Buddy. I can't help but compare Syndrome to Iron Man because fans seem to think Tony is also a narcissist, both were very intelligent and child prodigies (though Tony Stark was easily well above Buddy Pine), both had a supportive and loving mother however we know nothing of Buddy's father and Howard Stark couldn't even be bothered telling his own son he loved him, both developed weapons in their adult lives. However Tony shut down weapons production as soon as he realized the enemy was receiving them, while I'm sure Buddy was selling his to both sides; both had a beautiful assistant but you bet Tony would give up his life for Pepper, while Buddy didn't seem to care about Mirage's safety; Syndrome focused only on himself, while Iron Man willingly risked his own life for others multiple times. I don't know maybe one day I'll finally do a video about it if I can get a decent camera and a quiet space.

One thing that has always bothered me about the Incredible's universe is the Super Villians. They're not gonna obey the Super laws, how are they being dealt with? We sorta see it here with Syndrome, if the Incredibles didn't deal with him, how was any gov't body gonna stop him?

Spying, Mass Surveillance, Brainwashing (see Jack Jack attack short), Blackmail, Kidnapping, Asassination. We know the Government knew the supers' identities, they just let them be because the villains and heroes mostly evened each other out, and took less government funding and bodies to get it done- until it didn't and the existence of supers became a nuisance. The heroes got amnesty and new identities as a thanks for their past actions, and the villains got 'disappeared' from their homes with extreme prejudice.

On December 13, 2017, Landry Q. Walker, one of the writers of the Boom Incredibles tie-in comic, posted some tidbits on Twitter about the planned final story arc of the comics that was written, but never published, due to Boom losing the Pixar licence. Among the revelations were the fact that Xerek, the master villain from the comics (and in earlier drafts of the film) stepped in to mentor a young Buddy Pine after Bob rejected him, presumably to serve his long-game agenda by quietly disposing of the supers. I really wish we could get to read the final installment of the series, I thought that they were pretty good.

I know I'm like 10 years late but i just noticed today that the way Buddy remembers Mr.incredible words "fly home buddy, i work alone" are completely different; 1- what happens is that Mr.incredible was struggling to hold the villain down while saying that phrase to Buddy, so he was honest with the boy and doing his job. 2- But what Buddy remembers is that Mr.incredible looked down at him while saying that, meaning he believed Mr.incredible didn't respect him because he had no powers. dam man that changed even a lot further

Syndrome doesnt blame Mr.Incredible for his decent into evil, that implies that buddy was feeling about his evil ways. Syndrome is proud of it, and boasts about it instead. He found a legitimate way to become the best, he doesnt feel it as evil, but that he's the anatagonist to Mr.Incredible now. Buddy doesn't think Mr. Incredible drove him to evil, no Buddy used Mr.Incredible's mistreat to willingly become a villian.

Ooor he's a kid with the emotional maturity of a spoon? Childhood behaviours cannot be used to indicate personality disorders as puberty, emotional maturity and the fact that personalities change over time mean how someone behaves as a ten year old is not a true inducator of how someone will act at thirty. Particularly since the PFC continues to grow until you're 25.

I think Buddy was looking for a father figure and he looked up to Mr. Incredible to be that Super Dad. When Bob (Mr. Incredible) didn't want to be saddled with a kid and blew off Buddy's aggressive admiration. It hurt Buddy to the core as he realized he was never going to be by Bob's side as Incrediboy. That deep hurt turned into a nasty case of resentment. He himself didn't have super powers, but he was very clever in designing and building rocket boots and such. He could have used his inventions for good under proper guidance, but since it seems he lacked good guidance at home, he went rogue.

Anakin at least had a redeeming side considering the fact that he had children that survived. Buddy on the other hand is PURELY EVIL regardless of what happens, so Buddy is more like Eobard Thawne/Reverse-Flash/Professor Zoom.

I think Syndrome worshiped fame and power. Not heroism. Upon realizing that the Incredibles weren't paths for either for him, he went to doing it himself. The fact that he is good at designing weapons, made him a super villain.

Even though Syndrome was a really evil supervillain, I did feel bad for him when he was denied by Mr. Incredible with harsh words/actions. Surely, Mr. Incredible could've said "You wanna be my sidekick? Well, take out bomb voyage and see how you do". Buddy would've instantly became very happy and more of a sidekick who kept on pursuing his life with Mr Incredible

Seeing incredibles 2 tonight it's playing early at a drive in movie theatre along with solo so much HYPE! Here is a spoiler free review This was written after seeing Incredibles 2. It really lived up to expectations And I wanted to write something about it spoiler free. The movie was,as expected, just as good as the first one. There was a perfect blend of action and humor as well as the parrs juggling their super lives with their civilian lives, there was even some unexpected curse words but nothing too bad just the h word d word and c word. Overall it was an incredible sequel to an incredible movie(see what I did there😄?) Anyway I highly recommend seeing it, you will not regret it.

i get the feeling that Buddy's mother was the type to support a child with money but little else. he owns all of that merch and has funding for his inventions but is able to make dangerous things and go out alone at night. i feel his immaturity as an adult is even further evidence of this. i'd guess this lack of emotional care and attention is probably the key to his npd. i'm definitely wary of saying villains are mentally ill, but you actually supported this argument in a mostly respectful way, so good on you.

Here's another theory for you. Who is Buddy's father? I know that he's not a super or could be one of unknown supers. That doesn't even mentions him. Remember Sky High movie back in 2005? In the movie, Ron Wilson the Buss Driver, is the only one child to his parents who has powers. And Ron doesn't any powers in the movie. Is that could be possible with Syndrome too? There could be Syndrome's parents could be supers, but he's the only one who doesn't have any powers. Or Syndrome's both parents are really non-super parents. That go either 2 ways that Buddy Pine's parents could be. And another theory, what happened Buddy Pine's father? Was he hid or died when Buddy was younger? That's 2 theories for you. Would you please help to clear the theories for you? And have "incredible" day. *laughs*

I think that Syndrom's personality disorder probably was a big part of the reason he became evil, but I also think another event happened during those years that made him turn to evil. I would also love a video about fairy godmother's origins, which means how they came to be (were they humans before? Or maybe some kind of spirit who came back to life after their problems were solved?) and where they came from and what century.

Buddy while incredibly smart and devoted, he let his ego believe that a little kid, could ever team up with an adult. Elastagirl herself told her children that villains wouldn't retraint themselves even if they're children. He shows little or no care about others and caused a lot of chaos, only to blame Mr.Incredible for his disillusion of heroes. Mr. Incredible had every right to turn him down, he just wasn't ready and it his mind shattered on himself.
