I don't think Mirage was ever really evil. I think she was just someone who was used and betrayed. She was willing to do what Syndrome told her to do because maybe he was the only one that "loved" her, or just shared common interests with. But when he crosses the line, her eyes were finally open to who he really was. A monsterous villain. And she did what she knew was right, by freeing mr incredible, and helping him and his family defeat the one who she now despised. 😌💥

I disagree with the idea that Mirage was raised to be a spy. I feel like if that were the case, she would have lost the part of herself that feels empathy or sorrow. Her reaction to the children and her sadness for Mr. Incredible when they believed his family to be dead looks very motherly to me. She either lost a baby or was never able to have one for some reason. She clearly loves children and has a fierce protective nature.

I always had a soft spot for Mirage; she is a divided individual who turns sides whoever she’s with. This is an incredible question (had to use that pun...); I think Mirage wasn’t raised to be a secret agent but she was raised to become someone. My own thoughts on this comes from Mirage’s own experiences in her past. Somehow, she didn’t plan to be an agent; it was either by chance or someone she knew like Buddy talked her into becoming a spy 🕵️‍♀️. Either way, I guess we’ll never know. 🦋✨

You are on the right track, remember the scene in Syndrones Lair where Mr Incredible saw the plans for project Kronos? It showed us that Mr Incredibles location was ‘unknown’, but Frozone what ‘known’. So fortunately it does look like Bob did get in the way.

I always thought Mirage's name sure is fitting for her. She's like a mirage. By the by, I think Mirage is still more of an antihero than an hero per se. That rather calculating and bit morally ambiguous side of her isn't quite fitting to make her the stereotype hero in my opinion. But yeah, it seems like at the end of the day, she decided to do the "right" thing.

I think the biggest reason Mirage and Buddy had a connection is because both of them were “misunderstood” throughout their difficult childhood. We obviously know of Buddy’s story. He was a really intelligent kid who and who inspired to be good somehow (his infatuation with a superhero that constantly contribute towards society is a sign of it) but because of people being not so understanding or sensitive enough to tend to his emotional needs made him the bitter man-child he became. I think Mirage had something similar. My theory is that she’s from a criminal family and her family exploited Mirage’s intelligence and desire to be loved with no regards for her as a person, and the end she was branded as a cold and calculating criminal. I think that’s why she as able to understand and sympathize with Buddy at the beginning and was that devoted to him (because of their unhappy childhood) and the reason why she’s unwilling to hurt children.

I hate to burst a bubble in your theory here but, the mugger tossing the wallet aside doesn't mean he didn't take anything. It's VERY possible that he ONLY took the cash he had on him, just because any debit/credit cards he could take might be cancelled before he gets a chance to use them. This doesn't mean your wrong in your assumption that he could have been hired by Mirage. It's actually very likely I'd say, now that you've pointed it out. Sure he might NOT have taken anything, but we don't know for sure. That's just what muggers usually do. Take the cash and leave the cards.

Hold on…Mirage is a well trained spy yes? And even if she was not a super herself, what if she was RELATED to a super? If you believe the theory that the government gave the supers their powers, then it would stand to reason that Mirage would know a bit about this program. If you look at her character design, it bears striking resemblance to a certain Incredibles II character that we don’t know much about. She is very similar to the new super Voyd’s design. They both have pale-colored Almond eyes, tan skin, and attached earlobes. (And yes there are characters with detached earlobes). That would also explain how she got involved with the gov. plan to take Syndrome down. If they were truly related, she would have a personal investment in halting Syndrom’s destruction of the supers. I don’t know, but it’s a pretty interesting theory.

Hannah Wren yeah. And when she was suppose to shoot down the children, she almost blew her cover by refusing to do so. It still doesn’t explain why she got mad at Syndrome for gambling on her life. If she was really spying on him, she wouldn’t have gotten mad. Spies die all the time and Mirage should know this. So her acting up afterwards makes no sense.

@@noahmizen7001 I think the government might have helped to create the first supers and then let nature take over. I suspect that the supers were tracked before going into hiding. They may or may not have realized they were spied on before but actually agreed to be 'watched over' after society turned on them. If this theory is correct, by the time of #2 the government may have needed to reactivate the supers to get their money's worth out of the project. Enter Dicker's protogete. Did he suspect his sister had gone to the dark side? Remember his response was 'What did you do?' not 'How could you do this?' Did he know what she was doing the whole time? He also seemed very unconcerned about his sister's fate. Did he already know what would happen to her because he had already cut a deal for her? Something to think about.

Mirage is a beautiful woman and in addition to her looks, her character enchanted me, but not in a way that I'm completely obsessed with her now, but I would still like to be her good friend and support her in life because she's quite similar to the 2020 Mulan's Xianniang: They were both villains at first but then they both chose the good and noble path. Mr. Incredible was a good man, and it really touched my heart when he thanked Mirage with a warm hug of gratitude for freeing him and for the telling him that her family was alive, and when Helen hit him, whether it was just an accident or not (if she was really going to hit her husband) so I don't like that at all, but I'm happy for Mirage that she turned her back on evil and chose the path of goodness to help the Incredibles overcome the darkness of evil created by the Syndrome. I really hope that she and the Incredibles are now good friends, allies with each other and she would always be on the good side (at least I've read online that in the Incredibles comics Mirage had joined the NSA and was Helen's ally in the operation to defeat a bad guy named Xerex even though those stories are non-canonical due to the production and release of the film The Incredibles 2 but we hope that she has still done what is right by herself as far as everyone is concerned) If Incredibles 3, and maybe even 4 will come one day, then let's pray that Mirage will be there, even though her voice actress Elizabeth Peña died in 2014, to be replaced by someone else, and she would be a wonderful and lovable family friend of the superhero family and that he himself would have a family of his own i.e. a husband and maybe his own son, daughter or both and she would be as rich and happy as the Incredibles in terms of finances, as well as family and friends!!

Great video! Also, I have a theory about how Mirage met Syndrome and who Mirage was a spy for immediately before joining with Syndrome. So, the Incredibles takes place in 1962 based off of the newspaper Bob Parr is reading when he finds out about Gazerbeam's disappearance I believe. In other words, it takes place during the Cold War. I think this is great because it makes total sense with Syndrome. I believe that Syndrome sold weapons to both sides of the Cold War: Russia and her allies, and the US and her allies. Didn't he say himself that he sold weapons to some governments? Makes sense in context of the Cold War. Next, I believe that Mirage was the representative of the Cuban government when Syndrome sold weapons to the Castro regime. Fidel Castro took over Cuba in 1959, just before the Incredibles. So if Mirage is a from Cuba, then maybe she was originally a part of Castro's intelligence. Do we have evidence Mirage is Cuban? Yes. Her voice actress, Elizabeth Pena, was of Cuban descent. I'm not sure how the theory holds up, but I believe that in 1959 Syndrome offered to sale weapons to the Castro regime. Mirage, a spy for the Cuban intelligence, was chosen to go visit Syndrome and arrange the weapons deal with him. But why would she stay? To stop the American supers! Clearly, the United States government has a lot of control over the supers. Maybe Mirage and the Castro regime were worried that, if the Cold War turned hot, the US government would use the supers as weapons against Russia and Cuba. I believe that when Mirage learned that Syndrome was destroying all the supers, she resigned from her position in the Castro regime so she could ensure that the United States government could NEVER use the supers against them. If the supers are dead, the government can't use them. TL;DR: I believe that Mirage was a Cuban spy for the Castro regime who met Syndrome when arranging a weapons deal and stayed with Syndrome to take out the supers so America can't use them against Cuba.

I have an explanation for her backstory. Mirage looked to be in her late 20s or early 30s. The movie is set in 1962, this would indicate that she grew up in the 1930s and 40s, under her birth name. Being the 1930s and 40s, her dark skin, accent, and white hair would've been targets for discrimination which caused her to close herself off from the world. Syndrome was the only one who didn't judge her for how she looked and took her in. She spent a few years training to become a spy for Syndrome, with him as her mentor and lover. The jet being blown up and her near-death experience is what got her to see Syndrome for who he really is: a monster who will stop at nothing to get what he wants.

On the line of her reaction to endangering children, I don't quite think it was due to a difficult childhood. Granted having a bad childhood could lead her to being sensitive to children, it would make more sense if she had her family herself. Something like she was in a relationship with a man who used her and betrayed her trust similar to syndrome, and in turn it endangered possibly her own children and killing them. So now she was alone, abandoned by a man that didn't love her and ended up taking away her children, and now even the hance of a child being hurt is a sensitive spot for her. And it explains why she would be so cross with Syndrome when he betrayed her other than the fact that he was willing to let her die. At least that's my take on that part, I pretty much agree with the other points as well

you know I think the real reason DevTech asked Helen to be the face of the returning supers is due to the fact that she does not have the baggage of the sue the supers lawsuits and that's the main reason they asked her over her husband. think about it mr. incredible single-handedly caused the sue the supers lawsuits, by trying to prevent Oliver Sansweet suicide attempt, this resulted in Mr Incredible and his fellow supers reputations getting dragged through the mud. so I'm pretty sure devtech would want to distance themselves from the man that single-handedly caused the superheroes to be outlawed in the first place

I loved Mirage as a kid. Yes she was on a villain's side but I think she was manipulated by Syndrome to be involved in all the messed up things he did and there was something else about her I liked but couldn't figure out what it was. At least she helped out Bob's family in the end. While I loved Incredibles 2, I wish they would have involved her somehow in the sequel, like maybe mentioning her a few times or something because her actress Elizabeth Pena sadly died from cirrhosis of the liver due to being a heavy alcoholic. RIP Elizabeth Pena.

Great video on Mirage, although I suspect that the real reason for her unwillingness to harm children may come from experience with other children in her life, like young siblings or maybe even a child of her own. This seems more likely to me because it's actually a bit harder for self-sympathy to translate into sympathy for others, especially strangers, whereas if she already valued the lives of children due to knowing and loving them in her personal life, that would provide better explanation for her strong reaction to "children on board." Especially from a parental or caretaker point of view, she could immediately empathize with Mr. Incredible's panic as his kids' lives are in danger.

So. Who wants to hear a really dark and twisted theory? No one? Okay, here it is. What if Mirage thought Syndrome WAS a good guy? For a time, she would bring supers to the island, then when she saw that he killed them, decided she needed to control him. Using the disguise of "love" she (like you said) manipulated him, twisting him to her ideals, eventually genuinely falling for him, but not before dozens of supers were dead. Perhaps she or someone close to her was taken by one in an accident, or perhaps she was a super villain. Either way, she's just as evil as Syndrome. And her "redemption" at the end? All an act, perhaps even one planned WITH Syndrome. But they didn't plan for his death, after that, perhaps she slipped into the shadows, awaiting a new villain, a new puppet, to replace Syndrome. I honestly didn’t see her as a villain regardless of her loving syndrome or even her mysterious past. Sure she lured supers to the island they died trying to take down the robot and she didn’t have any attachment or feelings to the supers until the plane scene where the kids would of been killed as well and Mr. Incredible threatening to crush her and syndrome challenging him which is something she thought he would never do that really opened her eyes not only to how evil Sybdrome was but also how what she had been doing all these years was wrong and she had had enough

Kronos is mentioned in this movie several times. It’s the name given to Syndrome’s eventual plan of releasing the Omnidroid into the city for him to destroy. It could also be seen as a persona Syndrome gave himself. in Greek mythology, Kronos is a Titan and the father of the Olympian gods, whom he swallows to maintain his power over them. Similarly, Syndrome’s plan involves killing supers (who can be seen as the gods of olympus) in order to become a powerful super himself. But the myth continues: Kronos is eventually tricked by his wife, Rhea, and Zeus into swallowing a stone, causing him to regurgitate the gods who team up and defeat him. This part of the story seems to be reflected in the final scenes of this movie, when the Incredibles escape with the help of Mirage and defeat the omnidroid and, ultimately, Syndrome. So then, if Syndrome is Kronos, and the Olympian gods are the supers, then Mirage can be seen as Rhea.

Do keep in mind that Mirage (Elizabeth Penya, may she rest in peace) had one of the most seductive voices ever heard. And I'm not talking in a sexual sense. Her voice had qualities to that could get almost anyone to agree with her. Her voice could calm anyone. Her voice impacted women almost as much as it did men. So, as you listen to Mirage, you find yourself willing to go along with her plans. You find yourself almost hoping 5hat she will get away with her plans. You find yourself happy when Mirage turns to the good side when she helps. I don't know if Pixar counted on this from Elizabeth's voice, or if it was just a lucky break. But there can be no doubt that it is the voice that is a big part of Mirage's power. Because of that voice, everyone (except Helen) is rooting for Mirage in some way.

Okay this was so well done! I love Mirage so much and your theory reminds me of a fanfiction that said Mirage had a though childhood. She grew up very poor with her mother but someday when she was around 10 someone from a modeling agency spotted both of them and proposed to make them become models. She became then very successful. Unfortunately the fic hasn’t been continued but it goes well with your theory :)
