Why not just telling moses to correct himself instead of trying to kill him?

Back in Genesis 17:9-14, God gave Abraham and his descendants the covenant of circumcision, that on the 8th day, all males were to be circumcised. So Moses, knew what was commanded of him and was not ignorant of it. From this account, it appears that Moses didn't circumcise his son because his wife, Zipporah didn't like the procedure. Thus Moses was yielding to the wishes of his wife, in direct rebellion of God's command (like Adam did with Eve). Now perhaps God told him to correct this, and Moses didn't, we don't know, but God was not in the wrong here, Moses was. Circumcision was a sign of the covenant between God and Israel, so how would Moses represent God before Israel in Egypt, if he didn't respect the covenant God made with Israel. In other words, this wasn't what we might call a small matter. Now perhaps there is more to this story here that is not recorded, but that is just speculation. It appears to be recorded though to show Israel how important their covenant relationship was with God and possible consequences for breaking it.
