Why did Haman hate Mordecai?
In this devotional, I share three thoughts from Esther 3:1-6.
1. No bowing.
2. Hatred of Jews.
3. Pride.

The story of Esther is a beautiful example of the heights and depths of humanity. Haman’s hatred of Mordecai is a deep darkness.

Haman was an amalekite. He shouldn’t have even been alive in the first place. But thanks to Saul’s disobedience to God he survived and almost killed people for things they weren’t even guilty of

They killed his people. Of course, Haman is gonna have resentment. Look what they did to Persia after Haman's death! Haman warned the king and he didnt listen

Why did the Amalekites attack the Israelites as they entered the promised land ( Exodus 17v8-16)? Why did Samuel instruct Saul to kill all Amalekites (1Samuel 15v2,-4 )? Why did Saul spare king Agog ( 1 Samuel 15v9)? My thoughts on Haman is that there was unfinished business in Gods eyes on the Amalekites when Agog was spared & lived long enough continue a bloodline through to Haman. Saul's error in not killing all Amalekites left the door open for Haman to be born to continue the Amalekite historic hatred toward Jews. Last thing.. Exodus 17v16 "... the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation". I think this last verse definitely is a prophesy that Haman's role of hating Modecai was all within Gods purpose & control for His chosen people.

You’re right. Mordechai and Esther were descendants of King Saul and Haman descendant of King Agag. There were hot blood between them and even before Haman knew who Mordecai was he hated him and vice versa. It’s that kind of inherited hatred that happens and if people don’t know their forefathers’ history or the other person’s background, they just think they don’t get on while actually there is an ancestory reason why they can’t tolerate each other! Would Kimg Saul would have listened to God, Haman would not have been there to be a thorn in the Jewish’s skins! But his being became a reason for God to glorify Himself!

Based on Esther 2:15a, Esther is Mordecai's cousin. "¹⁵ When the turn came for Esther (the young woman Mordecai had adopted, the daughter of his uncle Abihail..”

Why do people say Mordechai was Esther’s uncle?!? He was her cousin, even though much older than her and he was also her adoptive father. Their fathers were Yair and Avichayil, Benjamite brothers and sons of Shimi, descendant of King Saul. So they had the same paternal grandfather.

Mordecai comes across as an awful, awful human being if you look at it outside of an overly forgiving lens. Him refusing to bow to Haman was a massive middle finger to the authority and culture he was in. You can argue it was because of worshipping men like gods but no, you bow to people in authority, he'd bow to the king. When Haman hires killers to wipe out the Jewish people for Mordecai's arrogance he weeps and wails so that Esther who cares about him sends comforters. He then responds by THREATENING HER LIFE. He also straight up lies to her because Haman's plot would NOT have effected the King's trophy wife. You think the hired mercenaries Haman hired were gonna find out months later that the Queen was a Jew so they had to pick up their arms and burst into the palace to finish their job?
