GREEK MYTHOLOGY: Why did Hera Marry Zeus? - Hera's Confessions
This video contains the confessions from the Queen of the Olympians, Hera. From the early days of her birth to the early days of her reign and marriage. This inner look into Hera's feelings shows why Hera married Zeus in the first place, and why she stayed with him! See the beginning of these famous god's love story, all through the eyes of the Goddess of marriage.
Living Mythology is an attempt to entertain, relax and educate all in the one place. We are trying to forge narratives so that people can experience the religions and mythologies of the world as they were meant to be. Not as dry academic monoliths, but as living breathing tales and parables as experienced by the peoples who worshipped these beings, in an attempt to make sense of their own lives and the world around them.
This channel is in its infancy, so we hope to improve and develop it as we gain more experience.
All of the tales are taken from very conflicting traditions across many centuries, so there will be many a moment when decisions need to be made to create a more cohesive narrative. If we present something that seems to be in contrast to details, rest assured we have researched many forms of the traditions and come to the conclusions we have done to form the videos.
There will NEVER be total agreement on any of these narratives due to the history and differing ways they developed over the centuries.
These videos are for entertainment and an easy gateway to the subject. If you wish more academic details then please direct your attention to the wide source material and others who perform those types of academic video essays.

Well as the adage goes; you can't please all the people all the time.... Personally I think you do a fantastic job at finding a solid middle ground, so to speak, you say so yourself that these tales are centuries in the making. I say that because even today they are still changing, mutating, transmorphonalizating. I also think that anyone would be very hard pushed to find a better medium to ease into the subject of myths, or the ology of myths(lol), religion and lore. I think watch/listen to something entertaining and interesting like your platform for example and then have a good old interweb rummage about your favourite characters! I can't think of a more fun weekend than that. As ever guys PLEASE keep up the great work, we all love ya 🤓

Oh man, Hera got crazy fast. Now I know why she is so vicious towards the ladies that Zeus often tricking or mind controlling into sleeping with him get punished or their children. Though, kinda weird to punish the otherwise unknowing than the perpetrator, but Gods be crazy. Also, poor Hephaestus. Great Video as Always. Love the passion, keep up the good work.

Man, it's tough, as one gets older, not to hear the rhetoric in some of these stories as deeply abusive. Not a fault of our story tellers, let me be perfectly clear, they're reading and collecting extant mythology here, but when you hear it in this narrative fashion, the notions of love and devotion are reliant on rhetoric that enforces an abusive hierarchy. It's hard to ignore, hopefully.

As lovely as these stories and narration is, I'm never not going to be creeped out by Hera and Zeus. Maybe it's being an older brother that just makes it worse. Either way, the thought of Zeus going around making children with his sisters and aunts makes me shiver with disgust. It is oddly faschinating how many religious beliefs start out with "and then the siblings made more siblings with each other". Why is that? How was it connected to small communities in early history? To later efforts by ruling families to maintain power and wealth by marriage to family? Was that somehow easier to justify, because they could claim they were simply mimicking how it was in the begining? Yep... that's what I'm pondering today, after I got poisoned at work and feel pretty rotten. 🤢 Many thanks for the tale! ❤

I am genuinely impressed that you were able to make Hera so sympathetic. It goes to show that even the gods of the pantheon are not so infallible. Greek myth often paints her in such a wrathful and bitter light. Though you did show that side of her with her absolutely abominable treatment of Hephastus. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, eh? I look for forward to your next story, Lady Lightbringer and Sir Baldermort. - Zachariah

I am always happy to make an appearance in the comments 🙂 I can see the passion you put into each episode, and we are all truly grateful for your efforts. Making the gods practically human in their appetites makes them almost seem tangible and real. Your last video involving Zeus was one of my favorites. While it is an interpretation of his story, the way it brings his behavior into greater context was simply a work of brilliance. That video has almost changed the way I see Zeus. Keep up all the hard work, and remember to take some time for yourselves 🙂

Hera was supposedly a powerful goddess, probably one of the many mother/fertility goddesses we see alot in the Middle East and Mediterranean area at the time (which may include Demeter, Artemis and Hestia) before the arrival of the conquering Ancient Greeks. She was incorporated into the Greek pantheon as a way to appease, incorporate and absorb the local population, but at the same time, forcing her into a secondary role by having her becoming the spouse of Zeus. Some historian believes this is why Hera and Zeus' marriage was far from being ideal.

The Ancient Greeks did not thinks so. He was their greatest god. You are looking through modern sensibilities. That will never work out. Because he has been utterly trashed by later religions. And here I primarily drew my image of Hera as the petty b**** from Kevin Sorbo's Hercules. You performed magnificently her conflicted, flawed, but sympathetic nature here and in the Hephaestus video. It would do well as the 'Catharsis' of theater of the time. Too bad the best they woulda gotten then would be Baldermort in drag upon the amphitheater stage (lol no girls allowed).

Holy rusted metal Batman, that was supreme. You turned Hera.... the woman god that jacked with Hercules horribly...into a figure that we can sympathize with. NOW THAT is storytelling. You took possibly the most evil woman (or at least portrayed as evil commonly) and turned her into a woman who is intelligent, smart, compassionate and yet...gentle and loving, in her own way. I have to be honest...I'm not sure if even the ancient Greeks had priests that captured this woman's story so remarkably. What a gold mine of lore but an equally wealthy diamond mine of narration. I still don't like Hera...but I certainly don't hate her anymore. Stunning performance Light, stunning!!!!!
