Been watching these 'ST' reviews on KZbin for a while now. Thinking yours is the best & I prefer your 'manner'. Thank you! I found my dream car last week. Trading in my Fiesta S Mountune mod which I've driven for almost 3½ years & I love her. Never thought I'd be the owner of an ST but I pick up my new baby (ST3 2016 in black with 22,000 on the clock) the end of this week.Looks & drives like new. I've given in to my midlife crisis (I'm 44) & to hell with what the neighbours say. Cheers mate....great review!

Thing is this stands out more than the Beemer ever would, all I see in my area is Beemers and drop tops mainly, gets kinda boring. It's the Focus RS's and the old skool Cossies and RS's that seem to get all the attention. The Beemer gives me the impression many are trying to give off some kind of image but they are so common nowadays and for you don't pay silly prices for parts and servicing on a Ford.
@ThisLifeOfCars7 жыл бұрын
chilloutcockney There is something different about the RS's and ST's, you're right. I do really like BMW's and the way they drive but the Fiesta (albeit totally different) presented excellent value for money and it's a great drive. No regrets in that department! Thanks for your comment man. 👍👍

I picked up an ST200 about 2 months ago new for a practically absurdly low price, and I think you pretty well describe everything I love about mine in this video. One disagreement I have is people's surprise ending when they go for a drive - for me they start wondering why they paid so much for theirs! Gotta get your revs up over 5k for that extra 20hp though man :-D I'd driven an old (pre-2015) ST-3 and you really notice the improvements in things like ride quality etc on the newer ones.
@ThisLifeOfCars7 жыл бұрын
Jo R I would have loved to have gone for an ST200. Just that little bit more unusual and the limited number of them also appeals. However, that doesn't really sway me from how much I like mine. You're right about the revs. Start pushing over the 5k mark and it's zingy and fizzy. Great fun! Thanks for the comment mate and I'm glad to hear you're enjoying yours too! 👌👍
@SamAustin7 жыл бұрын
Great video ! I had my ST-2 from new for four years and loved it. Can agree with you on the economy. Over 40mpg is relistically acheivable and even when you push it hard and have fun I never saw mine drop below 35mpg over the 4 years but it does depend on your driving style. I own a MK7 Golf R now but always tempting to go back to an ST in 5 door trim.....such great value and can easily work as a daily for years. Only negative on the car for me is the slow speed ride but once it gets going its not too bad at all :-)
@ThisLifeOfCars7 жыл бұрын
Sam Austin Thanks for your feedback and the comment. Great to hear that you were seeing similar fuel returns. Totally agree with you. If your driving style allows it, you'll easily see 35ish mpg, even when having fun. I also agree with what you've said about the low speed driving. It is choppy. It is a firm setup that really works when you start to exercise the car but lower speeds do give you a bit of chop. I think it's mainly due to the small footprint of the car and our terrible road surfaces though. I like a firm ride and don't give it much thought, even though some passengers have said it's a bit tough on a longer journey. Thanks again mate. 👍
@SamAustin7 жыл бұрын
I did find that when I took the car on long trips with 2 bikes in the back and full of luggage ride wise it was great and pretty relaxing on a 60mph cruise on the Motorway. I think your right its small size and weight does knock it about a bit. Brilliant car overall and I would say it is more fun than my Golf R regardless of the price difference :-)
@ThisLifeOfCars7 жыл бұрын
I think you could be right too. Loaded up, it does seem to calm it down a bit. Plus, in general, the motorway surfaces are generally better than A and B roads! 😉 It's amazing to hear that you think the Fiesta ST might be better fun than your Golf R! I'm surprised by that! 👍

@singh27023 жыл бұрын
I have owned this car since 2016(brand new) the only complaint is the lazy rev drop when upshifting, if you don't wait for the revs to drop to the rpm the next gear will match, you get an irritating jerk as a result of this mismatch. Does this resonate with you?

Good choice, but Imperial blue is the faster colour! ;) Once you get used to the base performance I'd highly recommend getting the MP215 kit from Mountune. It's the sweet spot for the car and really wakes it up. Best of all it doesn't void the warranty either.

alphazoom II Well, I was considering an M135i and was made redundant at very short notice. Kind of glad I didn’t go for one at the time! The upside to the fiesta (at least in America) , the mini is it's closest competitor but brand new it's a few grand more and that's for a base package Cooper s. I got my st at 32k for $11k , traded my stage 2 gti for it. A mini Cooper s with nav, sport seats , premium alloys would have probably been $15k at the same mileage I love mini but the Ford was priced better and mods are cheaper AND the car is way easier to work on. I've read the newer minis the engine space is just as cramped as the r56 was

Mark7F3z Interesting to hear that there is a major difference between the Zetec S and the ST. I only drove the ST when I was looking, so I don't have any experience with it to compare. i have the 140 model atm, ive drove an ST and that extra few hp and extra bit of torque really do make a massive difference. Only reason why i went with the ZS instead was it being a 'young drivers' car, insurance was a lot nice to me being 19. I follow you on instagram and when you put that story on of you getting 38 something MPG i was shocked since my has one less cylinder and im averaging around 35 atm. love the content btw!
@ThisLifeOfCars7 жыл бұрын
Mark7F3z Ah! I see! Well, it is a great looking car and I can appreciate that the insurance would be hectic on the ST in comparison! Yeah man, the MPG is pretty good. It wasn't great in the beginning but I really babied it during the "running in period" and it seems to have paid off. I don't drive like a nutter, so my returns are usually pretty good. The figures I state are always average combined. Even today, it's back up to 43 I had a good drive in it! Thanks for your support man. I really appreciate it! 🙏👍

Great review, especially for your first one. I love the Fiesta ST (especially after I test drove one) but here in the States, we only get the 4-door model. The insurance cost are slightly less than a Mustang EcoBoost and the monthly payments would be $75 (£58) less for the Fiesta. But a 4 door... Anyway, thanks again for your review.
@ThisLifeOfCars7 жыл бұрын
Dario C. Cruz Thanks for your kind comment. Interesting to hear about the cost of the ST over in the States. I think I must have known that the 4-door is your only option over there but it is a shame. Seems like a lot of doors for a small car! What do you think you'll go for?
@DarioCruz927 жыл бұрын
It is odd the sedan is the only option, especially since every Fiesta ST owner I ever spoke with tells me they would've bought the coupe model if it was available. I'm probably going with the Mustang since it's much roomier and has more aftermarket options here. But to be quite honest, either one is a great choice.

I've owned an St2 now for just over a year and I agree with your comments. Although there are more powerful small hatches about, non match the fezza for costs and imo driving abilities. You did miss out that in 3rd and 4th you get overboost for around 15 seconds which increases power to 197. And I believe that the torque vectoring uses the brakes to mimic a limited slip diff. But it's a good video to watch and your honest with your views on it.
@ThisLifeOfCars6 жыл бұрын
Carl latham Hi there! Thanks for watching and for your comment! You’re right about the overboost but there are varying opinions out there about it, so I steered clear of explaining what gears are effective and for how long it comes on for. Thought it would be easier to just mention the standard BHP figure. I didn’t know about the brakes working with the torque vectoring, so that’s new to me! Either way, it’s a cracking little car for the money! Thanks again man! 🙏👍

Really nice view and one which has pushed me over the edge to purchase one of these. Now it’s time to keep saving the pennies, pre owned ST3 best value for money?

Blue Army Hi there! Thanks for the comment mate. Great to hear you're looking to buy one. With regard to prices, I'm hardly an expert but the new price of mine versus a nearly new one was negligible. It's worth speaking with your local dealer about this. I'm on Instagram too, so few free to DM me and let me know how your enquiries go! Thanks again man. 👍
@bongodave134 жыл бұрын
Yup. It delivers. Three mods I recommend are the MP215, quick shift, and the most beneficial mod, the rear motor mount. It really puts the power down and cuts the torque steer significantly. Adan Rainey explains it well here, and I completely agree. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bqatdZ-Jptx8orM

I paid $16,500 for a toyota iM, and man do i wish I'd gotten one of these instead. Dealers around me have been offering the non recaro equipped ones for under 16k US, and I think I'll regret it every day until next year when I'm in the position to pick one up.

Tyler Wilkerson Thanks for the comment. Oh man! That is a shame. Well, I hope you have fun with the Toyota anyway. Hope you get your hands on a Fiesta ST as soon as you can. It’s a seriously fun little car. 😉👍

I had a 208 gti for three years that was such an easy car to drive. Unreliable though. I'm still warming to the fiesta the seats are about half an inch too tight and the steering wonders about rather a lot (is this common?) Handling wise fiesta wins hands down. Comfort wise pug.
@ThisLifeOfCars6 жыл бұрын
The 208 GTI is/was immense fun! I think I know what you mean about the steering. I think it's tends to tramline a little. It really follows any indentations in the road and gives a feeling of wandering. I think there's a reasonably simple and inexpensive mod that can be done to prevent this. I just can't think what it is right now. 😬👍

Looking for a new daily, I'm torn between a Fiesta ST2 or ST3 and a Focus ST1. Would probably buy new. Also need carseat room. What do you think?
@ThisLifeOfCars6 жыл бұрын
91 TA WS6 Thanks for watching and for the comment. If you’re looking for a Fiesta and you like having a bit of kit, the ST2 is good and the ST3 literally has all of the spec you’d be looking for. Mine has one or two additional options. If you’re not fussed and it’s simply about the drive, the ST2 would be fine and plenty of people would stand by that. I would imagine the Focus will give you more room for you and the family and the ST1 would have some decent kit on it but not everything. I suppose you could look at a used Focus ST3 as it would have most, if not all the kit you’d need. I have no experience with the Focus but I’ve heard that they’re a cracking car too. The Fiesta is quite simply a great fun, reasonably simple little rocket. It still surprises me to this day! 😂👍

I'd love the car a lot more if it had active suspension so I could select a softer ride for the bumpty roads. I've had comments like "if my car was like this, I'd think there was something wrong with it"
@ThisLifeOfCars6 жыл бұрын
goodchappy It’s a good point and I know what you’re saying but imagine how much more expensive it would be with something like active ride. The ST feels like a Rolls-Royce in comparison to my other car, so I don’t really mind it.
@Goodchappy6 жыл бұрын
Long journies can get a bit wearing though. I guess it is all about money but for me the fiesta ST is the car for me. My other car is electric and off the mark beats my ST.
@ThisLifeOfCars6 жыл бұрын
goodchappy My ST is my daily, so it fits with what I need it for. English road surfaces are notoriously bad and yes, on some longer journeys, it can be a bit choppy. However, I’ve been in much more uncomfortable cars that cost a lot more. This car choice wasn’t about pure speed for me either. I have an RX-7 that is fairly swift. This was about value for money, standard equipment/features and class-based performance. It’s just a fun little car and that’s why I chose it. 😉👍

@ThisLifeOfCars7 жыл бұрын
Gooner70 I kind of know what you mean but I would say that the horizontal rear lights (rather than the vertical style on the Mk7) help to lower the centre line of the car. I do think the 7 looks a little top heavy/a little tall, so, for me, I don't think it's all that bad. Just itching to see how it drives! Hmm, when the timing is right, yes, I'd hope to get some bits done at Mountune HQ. 👍

How have you found the reliability to be? I'm considering a used model but am new to the Ford brand and just a liiiiitle worried about the idea of most people thrashing these cars.
@ThisLifeOfCars6 жыл бұрын
JustifyJustin Hi there! Thanks for the comment. Mine has been great! Over two years and one service later, I have no complaints. With used cars, you’ll never ever know how they’ve been treated. These cars encourage spirited driving but not all will have been thrashed to death (like mine). However, like I say, you’ll never know. If you’re considering buying from a dealer, at least you’ll have a warranty, should a problem arise. As you’d have seen from the video, I only bought mine new because it was very close in price to used ones I had seen at the time. 😉👍

I wished I could buy one. But, 1- I prefer sedans, because 2: 2- I often drive highways, and hatchbacks have lower aerodynamics. 3- I often go 80MPH or faster, this Fiesta ST can do 150MPH, the engine is good enough for up to 100MPH daily driving, but the gearing is geared for 55-65MPH. Too short geared, too low MPG for a passenger car. 4- Oh, and Ford decided to discontinue passenger cars... If they did the sedan, with a 20% higher overdrive gear, and perhaps a tiny bit higher performance (225HP), I would have gotten it!
@ThisLifeOfCars6 жыл бұрын
Muranaman Yes. This might not be the car for you. The car might be good for over 140 mph but you’d need to take it to the track over here (unless you’d ok with serving a bit of time at Her Majesty’s pleasure)! 😂 I’ve seen mpg returns of well over 45 on motorway journeys cruising at 70mph. These really aren’t good on short journeys. Surprisingly bad actually. Even Ford have said they weren’t concerned by this. It’s just meant to be a return to an “older” way of driving and just enjoying it. Let’s face it, these don’t even have stop/start. With regard to the BHP figures, a quick setup from Mountune/Peron/Cobb etc. could sort that problem very quickly! Not sure what you meant by the point you made in point number 4... Thanks for watching though and cheers for the comment. 😉👍
@ProDigit806 жыл бұрын
Ford decided in USA to only focus on the trucks, and discontinue passenger cars. The market is saturated here, plenty of new cars being leased out, and now the lease companies are putting them on sale. You usually get a car with 25-50k miles for half the price of a new car here. Makes no sense to buy a new car anymore. Plus, the Korean and Japanese are also flooding the market with (poor performing) hatchbacks and sedans. For USA, they're not fun to drive. Econoboxes we call them. Anything below a 2 liter engine isn't really USA worthy, unless supplied by a turbo. But they still make them. and people are still buying them, simply because they're cheap. Not because they're fun, nor because they get great gas mileage. The small cars often are worse on the highway in fuel consumption, than the slightly larger cars.
