I do the same. Mpc500 at work/travel, mpc1000 on the couch upstairs, and mpc2500 on the workbench in the basement with all the other equipment. I just love the hands on feel of the older machines, and they really force you to hone your craft. The new boxes seem more like "drag and drop"... takes the fun out of it for me. Sometimes I'll do a whole session just playing with sound, making samples to use down the road.

I used to have a 1000, identical to yours that I used to make beats at home with then started using live later on. So I got a MPC2500 (instead of the MPC5000) to keep at home for compatibility reasons. I used JJOS2XL. The 5000 didn't have JJOS2XL which is why I chose the 2500 over the 5000. Today, I still have my 2500. However, I've replaced my MPC1000 with an MPC One. I also have an MPC X. I'm slowly migrating my drumkits in the 2500 to use in the MPC X and MPC One. This is a painstakingly time consuming process. Therefore, it will definitely take a while. With that said, I still have a lot of unfinished beats on the MPC2500 that I'm working on (that I started on years ago) finishing up now that I have the proper means to track them out in a DAW when I'm ready to record them to audio.
